Before You Begin

1. Register your SmartHRM™ Heart Rate Monitor
• Register or log in to your account at www.SmartHF.com.
• On the registration/pro le screen, please note that you do not need to enter a serial number.
To use your SmartHRM Monitor with a Smartphone, complete the next two steps.
2. Download the SmartHRM Application(s).
• For the latest information on SmartHRM-compatible smartphone and PC apps, visit SmartHF.com/support.
3. Add SmartHRM to Your Bluetooth Devices
• Follow instructions for your smartphone or PC to pair your SmartHRM Heart Rate Monitor to your phone or PC.

1. Attach the Monitor
• Moisten your skin and strap the monitor to your chest.
2. Connect to the SmartHRM Mobile App*
• Open the SmartHR mobile app and press “Connect”.
* If exercising without a phone, skip this step.
3. Exercise
• Hit Start on the App to start exercising. Hit Stop when done.
4. Review Your Data

2. Flashing green light.
This means the monitor is seeking to be found (paired) by your device’s Bluetooth™ service.
3. Your heart rate and other data displays on your smartphone or PC while you exercise.
4. Review your data on your phone or at SmartHF.com.
Log in to your account at www.SmartHF.com to see your workout history, maps of your routes, calories expended, and more.

STEP 2: Connect the Monitor

TIP: To exercise without a phone, just follow step 1.
1. The indicator light should be steady green. Press the Connect Button.
If FLASHING RED: Not detecting heart rate.
If NOT ON: Press the Connect Button for a few seconds. If that doesn’t work, press the Reset Button with a paper clip (resetting does not erase any data).
2. Open the SmartHRM Mobile App on your phone and choose CONNECT
• As instructed, press the Connect Button. The green light should be a fast blink. Select “OK“.
• “Please select a serial port connection Choose the SmartHRM connection and then choose your SmartHRM Monitor.
• When done, tap “Select” (bottom left).
3. The green Indicator Light should now be a slow blink. You are now connected!

STEP 1: Attach the Monitor
Where to Wear the Monitor
• The heart rate monitor should be worn in the middle of your chest, as shown (not on the left side over your heart) and just below the sternum. For women, the strap should be positioned below the bra.
Position and Adjust
• Position and fasten the monitor. The heart-shaped clip is inserted at an angle through the underside of the hole: insert one-half  rst, then push up the other half for a smooth  t.
• Adjust strap for a comfortable but snug  t.
Moisten Skin
• With a damp paper towel, moisten your skin and/or the electrodes. Moisture helps ensure conductivity with the electrodes that read and transmit your heart rate.

Your Personal Settings
Your target heart rate depends on your height, weight, gender, and age.
You can enter this information on the SmartHR Mobile App (if not using a phone, you can enter this online).
Height: Enter your height in inches.
Weight: Enter your weight in pounds.
Sex: Enter M or F.
Setting a Target Heart Rate (Training Zones)
• The Weight Management zone has the lowest training intensity.
This zone is good for beginners and those who want to strengthen their cardiovascular systems.
• The Aerobic zone increases strength and endurance. It works within the body’s oxygen intake capability, burns more calories and can last longer.
The Anaerobic Threshold zone generates speed and power. It works at or above the body’s oxygen intake capability, builds more muscle and cannot be maintained for a long time.

STEP 3: Exercise
Hit “Start” on the App when you are ready to start exercising and “Stop” when you are done. Your heart rate and other data displays on your phone while you exercise.
STEP 4: Review Your Data
To monitor your progress over time and compare your workouts, your data is available on your secure account at SmartHF.com.
• Log into www.SmartHF.com
• View your heart rate, calories burned, distance covered and other data as a chart, map or table for any exercise session.
How Your Data Gets to SmartHF.com
If you ARE using a Smartphone: When you exercise, the Smart-
phone automatically sends the data to www.SmartHF.com using the cellular network, in addition to displaying it on your Smartphone while you exercise.
If you ARE NOT using a Smartphone: You can upload your exercise data from the monitor to your account at www.SmartHF.com with a small PC software application available at www.SmartHF.com/support.

Caring for Your SmartHRM™ Monitor
Protect your SmartHRM Monitor from damage by following these simple care instructions.
• Use a soft dry cloth to clean the monitor. DO NOT use water, soap, or abrasive cleaners.
• Keep the monitor dry by drying off moisture before storing. While the SmartHRM Monitor is designed to be waterproof against sweat and exercise in the rain, do not submerse it in water.
• Do not keep the monitor in extreme conditions (hot or cold temperatures or extreme humidity).
• Do not bend or break the conductor arms on the monitor.

Appendix
Reset Button
Press this button to reset the monitor if you are having trouble getting the monitor to work. It should reset and blink twice. The monitor stores up to seven days’ heart rate data; resetting does not erase any data.

Charging the Battery
• If the indicator light is red, the battery is low and should be charged. To charge the battery, plug the monitor into a power outlet with the included power cord or connect to a computer with the included USB cable.

Your SmartHRM™ Heart Rate Monitor is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year, when used in accordance with the instructions in this manual. The above warranties extend only to the original retail purchaser. We will, at our option, repair or replace the monitor covered by the above warranties. Repair or replacement is our only responsibility and your only remedy under the above warranties.
ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THE APPLICABLE WRITTEN WARRANTY ABOVE. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
