Caution!
Before operating the receiver, please read the safety instructions carefully.
Please observe all warning and notes on the unit and in this manual.
Moisture
Make sure that receiver and mains plug do not come into contact with any moisture whatsoever.
Electric Hazards
Connect the receiver to 175 - 250 V ~, 50/60 Hz only.
During an electric storm or operational faults, pull the plug.
Mechanical Hazards
Do not bend or squeeze the cable.
Repairs on plug, cable or receiver may only be performed by qualified
skilled personnel..
Do not place any heavy objects on the receiver.
Correct installation site
Place the receiver on a solid flat surface.
Protect receiver from moisture, heat, dust, dirt, etc.
Ensure sufficient ventilation (do not cover the ventilation slots)
Proper handling of batteries
Batteries must be kept away from children.
Leaking batteries may cause damage to the environment and the remote
control.

The digital satellite receiver Smart MX 05 Lis intended for the reception of digital satellite programs in the private sector. It is designed exclusively for this purpose and may be used only for such purpose.
Any other purposes are not considered the designated use. We will not be held liable for damage caused by such use contrary to the
designated use.

Replacing the batteries
Ö Replace batteries when the range of the remote control is decreasing or
when the receiver no longer reacts to all commands.
Required batteries 2 size AAA
When not used for prolonged periods of time, batteries may
leak. Remove batteries from the remote control if it is not used for long periods of time (> 1.5 years).
When replacing batteries, always replace all batteries.

1. Connecting the cable of the satellite installation
Ö Connect cable of the satellite installation to LNB IN.
The satellite signal that is active at the "LNB IN" connection is looped through the receiver and can be tapped an the "LNB OUT" connection, to connect, if desired, additional receivers.
2. Connecting the TV set

with a suitable cinch cable (shown in dotted lines in the circuit diagram).
3a. Connecting the stereo system
Once the receiver has been connected to the TV set with a Scart cable, the audio signal can be tapped at the receiver using AUDIO-L and AUDIO-R cinch sockets.
3b. Connecting the home cinema system
If your home cinema system can process digital audio data SPDIF: Ö Connect the home cinema system to the receiver with a suitable cinch
cable.
4. Connecting the power supply
Once all units have been properly connected to the receiver: Ö Plug mains plug into socket.

Switching on
Ö Switch on all connected units. Ö Switch on the receiver on the mains switch at the rear panel.
The receiver is now in Standby mode.
Ö Swich on the receiver on the Power key of the unit or on the remote
control.
First start-up
During the first start-up or after a factory reset, the following menus appear automatically.
1. Language
Here you can select the menu language of the OSD (On Screen Display).
2. RAPS
RAPS (Receiver Automatic Programming System) will automatically programme for you the channel list and maintain it automatically in the latest version.

3. Selecting a satellite
Ö Select which satellites you want to receive with your satellite system.
4. RAPS list and regional channels
Depending on the Länder setting, RAPS will save the correct channel list and your regular regional station on the 3rd channel.
4. Erotic contents
Ö Select whether or not you want to receive erotic channels.

Settings
A menu or OSD is an operator panel displayed on screen (OnScreenDisplay)
Settings can be made both on the receiver keys (Fig. 5, left) and on the remote control (Fig. 5, right).

Display/Exit menu
Ö Press MENU key. The menu is displayed.
Ö Press EXIT key. One level back in the menu To return to the Normal mode, you may have to press the key several times.

TV Channel List / Radio Channel List
Here the current channel list can be edited. The following editing options are available:
FAV To add a channel to a favourite channel group

Lock Protects a channel by a password

Antenna Selection
If several antennae are connected to your receiver, you can select the antenna whose signal you want the receiver to receive.
Satellite List
Here you can set which satellites you are receiving.
Antenna Settings
In the Antenna Settings menu, you can make extensive settings with regard to the received satellites, transponders, frequencies, motorised control, polarisation, etc.
Caution!
If you're doubt, have an expert make the settings in this menu.
For normal use, it is usually not required to make any settings here.
Single Satellite Search / Multi-Satellite Search / TP List
Once you have activated RAPS, it is usually not necessary to make any settings in these menus.
In the "Single Satellite Search" menu, you can search individual satellites for receivable channels.
In the "Multi-Satellite Search" menu, you can search all received satellites for receivable channels.
In the "TP List" menu, you can search individual transponders selectively for channels.

Language
Language
Here you can select the menu language of the OSD (On Screen Display).
Audio chanel
Here you can select the language of the two audio channels.
Some stations broadcast in different languages. When the language that you have set is broadcast, your TV set will broadcast automatically in this language.
Language of the subtitles
Here you can select the language of the subtitles
Teletext
Here you can select the language of the teletext
TV System
Display Mode
Here you can select the video signal type. The available options are PAL, NTSC, SECAM and PAL/NTSC. PAL is the TV standard in Europe
Aspect Ratio
Here you can select in which length-to-width ratio the TV picture is to be transmitted to the TV set.
Video Output
Here you can select which video output is to be used.
Local Time Settings
In this menu, you can select whether the time and date are to be transmitted and set automatically (GMT = on) or whether you want to set time and date yourself. (GMT = off).

Timer Settings
In this menu, you can add, edit or delete timer events.
Timer events are times programmed by you, at which your TV set will jump to a preset channel or record a programme and save it to your data carrier.
Date and time are entered on the numeric keys of your remote control.
You can also select a programme in your electronic programme guide ("EPG" key on your remote control) and directly add the timer.
Parental Lock
As-delivered the password is set to 0000.
Menu Lock
Here you can set whether access to the Settings menus is to be protected by a password.
PIN
Here you can set whether certain channels (see TV Channel List) are to be protected by a password.
New password
Here you can assign a new password.
OSD Settings
Display Subtitles
Here you can activate of deactivate the display of subtitles.
Hide OSD
Here you can set the time in seconds (1 - 10) during which the info menu remains on screen when changing channels.

OSD Transparency
Here you can select how transparent you want the OSD to be.
Favourites
Here you can rename your favourite channel groups.
Others
LNB Voltage
Here you can select whether the reception head (LNB) is to be supplied with power.
Channel Display Type
Here you can set whether all channels, only free-to-air channels or only encoded channels are to be displayed.
Switching channels
When switching between different channels, it often happens that a short pause occurs until the receiver shows the picture of the selected channel.
Here you can set whether you want the picture to be frozen for a short instant or prefer a black screen during this time.
Acoustic Signal
Here you can set whether you want your TV set to play an acoustic signal while you're in the "Antenna Settings" menu.
The acoustic signal sequence accelerates when the signal is better and slows down when the signal is poorer.
Tools
Information
This menu displays the version of your loaded software. No settings are possible here.
Factory setting
In this menu, all receiver settings can be reset to the factory settings.

In this menu, you can start the software update via USB
Software update via satellite
In this menu, you can start the software update via satellite.
USB
The USB menu can only be opened when a USB storage medium has been connected.
To navigate through files and menus on the USB data carrier, use the arrow keys and the OK key on the remote control (left) or on the receiver (right).

Recording Manager
In this menu, all video recordings made by you are listed.
Play Video
Ö Mark Video Ö Press OK to confirm Ö Video is being played
Stop Video
Ö Press "Stop" on the remote control Ö Video will stop, and the current programme will be shown on your TV set.
Edit Video
The following editing options are available:
Lock Ö The video is locked by a password
Delete Ö The video is deleted
Rename Ö The video is renamed
Hard Disk Information
This menu shows how much storage capacity is still available on your storage medium. No settings are possible here.
Hard Disk Format
This menu allows you to directly format your storage medium.
Caution!
After formatting, ALL data on your storage medium will have been deleted.
If you're doubt, have an expert make the settings in this menu.

PVR Settings
Timeshift
To be able to watch TV with a shift in time, activate the Timeshift function.
Timeshift Recording
To store the programme seen with timeshift automatically on your data carrier, activate this function.
Operation
Watching TV time-shifted (Timeshift)
If you connected a compatible data carrier to your receiver via USB (e.g. a hard disk), you will be able to stop the currently broadcast programme and continue it later on at exactly this position.
Ö In the "PVR Settings" menu, activate the "Timeshift" function. Ö Press the "SHIFT" key on the remote control on your remote control during

A Timeshift information field appears at the bottom margin of the screen. The current programme is now being recorded on your data carrier.

Press the "PAUSE" key on your remote control, to stop the programme and continue it later on at the same position.
The time display on the right and the blue "progress bar" show for how long the programme has already been recorded.
The time display on the left and the small green vertical bar (on the progress bar) show which position is being shown on your TV set.
You can now also go forward or backward in the recorded programmes, the way you're used to from your DVD player or video player.
To hide the Timeshift information field, press the "EXIT" key and to display it again, press the "SHIFT" key.
Recording a TV programme time-shifted (Timeshift)
To record a TV programme you are watching time-shifted or have been watching time-shifted since you pressed the "SHIFT" key, press the "RECORD" key. To stop recording, press the "STOP" key.
Recording a TV programme
Ö Press the "RECORD" key. The "RECORD" information field opens.
Ö Close the information field by pressing the "EXIT" key. Ö Stop recording by pressing the "STOP" key.
Recall
Press the key, to show an overview of the channels watched last.
Electronic Programme Guide
Ö To open the Electronic Programme Guide, press the EPG key. The Electronic Programme Guide offers you the same information as your
printed TV channel guide (sequence of future programmes, more detailed infos).
You can add programmes selected in the EPG directly to your event timer by pressing the blue key.

Channel List
Ö Press the OK key, to display the channel list.
The
and keys allow you to scroll through the channel
list page by page. You can also display the TV channels arranged by different
types (e.g. news) and then select a channel.
Favourite Channels List
Ö Press the FAV key, to display a list of your favourite channels. If you did not enter any favourite channels, no Favourite Channels List will be
shown. Instead the message "No FAV Channels" appears.
How to find channels
Ö Press the red FIND key, to display the menu for channel search. Ö Enter the first letters of the channel to be found on the virtual keypad,
select the "OK" field and confirm by pressing the "OK" key.
All channels starting with the sequence of letters entered by you will be shown.
Zoom function
Ö Press green ZOOM key, to enlarge individual image details. A controllable magnifying glass appears on screen.
Ö Press the OK key to enlarge the selected image area. Ö To leave the ZOOM menu, press "EXIT".
Video text
Ö To display/exit the video text, press the TXT key.
Pause
Ö To freeze the image of the programme currently shown, press the PAUSE
key.
Ö To cancel the Pause function, press the PAUSE key again.

Audio function
Ö Press the blue AUDIO key, to go to the Audio menu. Here you can set the type of transmission of the audio signal.
Stereo: the stereo signal is transmitted unchanged.
Left: only the left audio channel is transmitted
Right: only the right audio channel is transmitted
Mixed: left and right stereo signals are mixed (Mono)
Timer
Ö Open the "System Settings" menu. Ö Open the "Timer Settings submenu.
In this menu, you can add, edit or delete timer events.
Timer events are times programmed by you, at which your TV set will jump to a preset channel or record a programme and save it to your data carrier.
Date and time are entered on the numeric keys of your remote control.
You can also select a programme in your electronic programme guide ("EPG" key on your remote control) and directly add the timer.
Subtitles
Ö Press the SUB key, to activate subtitles.
Sleep Timer
Ö Press the SLEEP key, to set a switch-off time. Ö Press VOL+ key repeatedly until the desired length of time or until up to
three dots appear, to set the length of time using the numeric keypad.

Programme Information
Ö Press the INFO key, to display additional information on the programme. Ö Press the INFO key again, to display more detailed information on the
programme.
If a station does not broadcast additional information on the programme, the text box remains empty.
Update
Via USB
Ö Search the appropriate software on the internet site www.smart-
electronic.de, store it on your USB data carrier and extract it (rar file).
Ö In the "Tools" menu, select "Upgrade via USB". Ö Select the appropriate file. Ö Start upgrade.
Via PC RS232
Ö Search the appropriate software on the internet site www.smart-
electronic.de, store it on your computer and extract it (rar file).
Ö Connect computer to receiver via a null modem cable (RS-232). Ö Switch on receiver. Ö Run the software on your computer. Ö All other operating steps are shown on your computer monitor.
After the update has been completed successfully, the display "end" appears on the receiver display.

Box-to-Box
Ö Switch on master receiver. Ö Connect the two receivers to one another via a null modem cable (RS-
232).
Ö Switch on slave receiver. Ö The OSD of the master receiver shows the display "Update RS-232".
After the update has been completed successfully, the display "end" appears on the receiver display.
Cleaning
Risk of electric shock!
Liquids must be prevented from entering the unit. Never clean the receiver with a moist cloth. Pull the mains plug from the mains socket before cleaning.
Caution!
Do not use any solvent-containing cleaners such as benzin or thinner.
Ö Clean the housing of the receiver with a dry cloth.
Shutdown and Storage of the Receiver
Ö Disconnect the receiver and the connected units from the power supply. Ö Pull all connected cables. Ö Remove the batteries from the remote control. Ö Place the receiver, cables and remote control in the original packaging. Ö Store the receiver and all accessories at a dry and dust-free location. Ö Protect the receiver from frost.

Troubleshooting

The power cable has not been connected.

Connect the power cable to the mains socket.
Switch on the mains switch.
No sound or picture, LED at the receiver is lit.

To switch on the receiver, press the POWER key.

No signal or only a weak signal.
Check the cable connections to the receiver and from the receiver to the connected units and fasten them, if necessary.
The TV set has no picture.
The system is not connected properly..
The TV set is not in the AV mode.
Check the connection of the Scart or composite cable and fasten it, if necessary
Switch the TV set to the appropriate AV input.
Picture only black and white and/or not properly synchronised.
The video format of your receiver is not set properly.
Adjust the TV standard of your receiver to that of the TV set.
The remote control is not working.
The batteries are used up.
The remote control is aligned incorrectly.
Replace the batteries with new ones.
Direct the remote control at the front panel of the receiver.
If a malfunction cannot be eliminated by the above measures, please contact your specialised dealer.

Never throw receiver and batteries in the normal domestic waste.
Inquire at your city or local government about proper and environmentally suitable disposal methods for the unit. Take used-up batteries to a collection point.
