Position Sensors
Thank you for purchasing the SleepSense® body position sensor.
Description
Using a gravity switch, the body position sensor provides a signal that is directly proportional to the patients sleeping posture (supine, prone, left, right or sitting). The sensor may be connected to any AC (low level) channel on the recorder.
Indication for Use
SleepSense® sleep-lab sensors provide a qualitative measure of respiratory sounds, effort, flow, body position, or movement, for recording on an approved data acquisition system. They are intended for use on children and adult patients who are screened during sleep disorder studies at a sleep laboratory or the patient’s home.
Warnings and Precautions

Sleepsense
Caution: US Federal Law restricts this device to sale, distribution and use
by or on the order of a physician.
• SleepSense® sensors may be used only in conjunction with an approved
recording system.
• Discontinue use if sensor shows signs of wear, damage, or exposed metal.
sensors are for professional use only.
Applying the Sensor
The patient should lie on his/her back for optimal positioning of the sensor.
Positioning the Sensor
1. Place the sensor belt around the patient’s chest over the night clothes and on top of the effort sensor belt. Make sure the sensors do not touch the skin. Locate the position sensor at the exact center of the body over the sternum.
2. Gently tighten the body position belt to secure the sensor in place. A loose belt may rotate and produce error in indication during the night.
Tape the cable about five inches away from the sensor to reduce strain and enhance reliability.
Check that clear, strong signals are being transmitted before leaving the patient.
Output Wave Forms:
Supine Left Right Prone Sit
every 15 seconds every 15 seconds every 15 seconds every 15 seconds every 5 seconds
Cleaning the Sensor
Wipe the sensor and cable with a non-corrosive (to plastic) cleanser before use.
• Make sure the complete sensor assembly is thoroughly dry before reusing it.
To sterilize the sensor, follow standard gas or solution sterilization protocols.
• Do not autoclave or soak the sensor system in disinfectants.
