5. SKIM BOARDING INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY RULES (For Combo Kits)
WARNING: Failure to read and follow the Instructions and Safety Rules
could lead to serious injury, paralysis or death. Use only as instructed.
WARNING: Warning: Children must wear
a helmet when using the skim board on the slide.
SAFETY RULES: IMPORTANT: READ & REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE WITH EACH CHILD BEFORE EACH USE OF THE SKIM BOARD ON THE SLIDE
Children must wear helmets when skim boarding. When worn correctly, helmets can reduce or
prevent many injuries. Helmets do not protect the neck or any areas of the head that are exposed. Make sure the helmet fits snugly. The straps must be fastened to hold the helmet firmly in place.
The slide should be covered with a thin layer of water - no more than a half inch.
For the child that is trying skim boarding for
first time. Have them place the board on the slide past the inflatable launch pad with the point of the board heading down the slide. Have them gently push the board with their foot down the slide and then have them walk on to the moving board riding it Fig. 1 slowly down the silde-Fig. 1 Repeat until child is comfortable with being on the slow moving board and is ready to go a little faster.
For the experienced skim boarder only!
Instruct children to hold the board (preferably with one hand on the back tail and one hand on the board side halfway up the board) out in Fig.2 front of them..
The child should start running (at first, just jog)
from 4-10 feet away and, when they have a little speed, drop the board flat out in front of them on a thin coating of water. Have them get low to
the ground and slide the board out in front of them (to lead just a little bit before they get on).
Get onto the board. DO NOT JUMP OR HOP ON
THE BOARD. JUMPING ON THE BOARD WILL CAUSE IT TO STOP AND FALLS AND SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. The correct way to get on
the board is to “jog first onto it by placing the front foot a few inches past the middle first, then placing your back foot behind it. By getting onto the board this way, the child will not lose much speed, if done properly. It will get easier with practice, and PRACTICE IS RECOMMENDED.
Once on the board, the child must crouch. This works better for two different reasons. The
child gets lower to the ground, with a lower center of balance so they are less likely to fall. Second, crouching helps keep the board under their feet so it does not slide out from under them.
See Fig. 2 For proper board riding form.
