4) Start the prompt recording process on your voice system and activate
your playback device. Use the volume control on your playback device
to control the recording leve l.

5) End the recording process as directed by the voice system and turn your
playback device OFF. You might have to record your first prompt
several times until you get the recording volume to the correct level.

• ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

This SKUTCH PRODUCT is warr anted against defects for a period of
one (1) year from the date of the original invoice. Within this period, we will
repair it without charge for parts and labor. To obtain warranty service the
product must be returned, at the customer's expense, to SKUTCH Electronics
along with a copy of the original invoice. After the unit has been repaired,
SKUTCH will ship the PRODUCT back via UPS GROUND service at our
expense. If any other form of return shipment is requested, the customer will
pay for 100% of the shipping cost.

This Warranty does not apply if in the sole opinion of SKUTCH
Electronics, the PRODUCT has been damaged by lightning or any other Acts
of God, or by accident, misuse, neglect, or improper packing, shipping,
modification or servicing by other than an authorized SKUTCH Service
Center.

EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY PROVIDED IN THIS AGREEMENT,
THERE ARE NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES
OR MERCHANTABILITIES OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE AND IN NO EVENT SHALL SKUTCH ELECTRONICS BE
LIABLE FOR LOSS OF PROFITS OR BENEFITS, INDIRECT, SPECIAL,
CONSEQUENTIAL OR OTHER SIMILAR DAMAGES ARISING OUT
OF ANY BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY OR OTHERWISE.

• Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Skutch AS-4A Single Channel Telephone
Line simulator. The AS-4A was designed to meet the rising demand for an
inexpensive, quality telephone line simulator. This unit simulates the
telephone line connection between a telephone and a computer based voice
channel. It simulates "RING SIGNAL", "LOOP CURRENT", and "CPC" or
"WINK" disconnect signal. The "AUDIO IN/OUT" jack can be used to either
record messages that were saved on your voice mail system, or to download
high quality pre-recorded voice prompts onto your voice mail system. The
AS-4A is simple to use, low cost, and an invaluable tool for all voice mail
users.

• Operation

1) Pick up the receiver on the telephone. Phone MUST be "OFF HOOK"

for proper operation!

2) Press the "PRESS TO RING" button for 1 second then release. Each time

the button is depressed, it applies a ring voltage to the VOICE CARD. If
the VOICE CARD is configured to answer on the 3rd ring, you would
have to depress the button three times before it answers. Wait 1 second
between depressions. If you keep the button depressed too long, the
VOICE CARD will first answer, then it will disconnect.

3) The VOICE CARD should be answered at this point. You can use the

touch tones on your telephone to interact with the VOI CE CARD.

4) When you are finished simply return the receiver back onto the
telephone. This will simulate a "CPC" or "WINK" signal for instant
disconnect of the VOICE CHANNEL.

• Audio Cable Requirements

In order to make a recording, or to download a pre-recorded prompt to
your voice mail system, you must acquire the proper audio cable. You need a
shielded cable that has an 1/8 inch, or 3.2mm mono phone plug, also called a
miniature phone plug, on the AS-4A end, and the proper connector that your
recording or playback device requires on the other end. Do not use an
attenuating type cable. On most portable cassette units, the MIC input and
EARPHONE output uses the 1/8" or 3.5 mm PHONE plug. The following is
the Radio Shack part number for this cable: Radio Shack P/N 42-2420 (1/8"
plug to 1/8" plug CABLE) If your tape unit uses the smaller 3/32" or 2.5mm
phone plug, also called sub-miniature phone connector, then you can
purchase a Radio Shack adapter to convert the above cable to the smaller size
connector. The adapter part number is: Radio Shack P/N 274-327 (1/8"
phone jack to 3/32" phone plug ADAPTER.).

• Recording Messages From Voice Mail

1) Connect a cable from the AUDIO IN/OUT jack on the AS-4A to the

MIC input on your recording device.

2) Follow the OPERATION instructions and gain access to the voice

system.

3) Signal the voice system to playback the messages, and place your

recording device to the record mode. If your telephone has a MUTE
feature activate it now. This will reduce the amount of background noise
recorded. The telephone must remain in th e "OFF HOOK" state during
the recording process.

4) When the messages are finished, turn the recording device OFF, and turn

the MUTE feature on your telephone OFF.

• Downloading Prompts

1) Connect a cable from the AUDIO IN/OUT jack on the AS-4A to the

EARPHONE output on your playback device.

2) Follow the OPERATION instructions and gain access to the voice

system.

3) Turn the MUTE feature on your telephone to the ON condition. This will

reduce the amount of background noise in your newly recorded prompt.
