• FX4 is now a distinct trim level available on F-250/F-350 SuperCab and Crew Cabs, 4x4 only

Exterior Changes

• Bold grille signifies Super Duty’s tough truck capability

• Large grille with prominent nostrils is attached to and defines the power dome hood

• “Super Duty” name is debossed into the grille’s top edge

• Larger stacked headlamps and integrated turn signals provide added illumination

• Tall front bumper includes an integrated step pad

• Functional fender vents help to identify the engine as well as provide added airflow

• Hydroformed front substructure creates a very rigid, strong foundation for mounting the cooling system and front fenders

• Pickup box tailgate includes Tailgate Assist prominent Ford Blue Oval is located in the center and the “Super Duty” name is debossed into the lower edge

• Available Tailgate Step makes accessing the cargo box easier and safer

• Available stowable bed extender makes the cargo box even more useful

These buyers need trucks that are able to do a specific job. Their reasons for buying may be just as specific, for example:

• A functional and dependable

• Low operating cost

• High power and torque

Commercial customers are expected to make up about 20 percent of the Super Duty market. Super Duty Pickups offer these buyers a variety of weight classes, heavy-duty suspensions, powerful powertrains and a number of heavy-duty options.

This category includes singlevehicle owners/operators or those with fewer than five vehicles. Many of these buyers are “mixed use” operators, meaning that they use their vehicles for both business and personal purposes. Smallbusiness customers are expected to account for about 30 percent of the Super Duty market. Because their work trucks may also double as family vehicles, these buyers may be especially interested in comfort and convenience features.

These customers want a truck with enhanced towing capabilities for a large travel trailer, multi-horse trailer or heavy boat. They’re also looking for trucks that can be used as campers. Diesel Engine Maintenance

Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Fuel

• ULSD fuel MUST be used in 6.4L to allow the emissions control system, including the DPF to operate properly

• ULSD fuel may be used in pre-2007 diesel engines

• Sulfur level reduced by 97 percent compared to conventional diesel (from maximum of 500 parts per million [ppm] to 15 ppm)

Oil Requirement

• Oil that meets the new American Petroleum Institute (API) service category CJ-4 is required for the 6.4L diesel engine to operate properly

• CJ-4 service standard oil must be used to keep the engine warranty in effect

• CJ-4 oil may be used in pre-2007 engines

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

• Dual 440mm EGR coolers have an air oxidation catalyst that scrubs exhaust gases from the air

• The catalyst protects the coolers from fouling and the EGR valve from deposits

• EGR valve is self-cleaning

• Engine control module monitors the EGR valve, checking for buildup that can prevent the valve from seating properly

• If buildup is detected, the ECM takes steps to clean the valve seat

Be sure your customers are aware of the new maintenance requirements and service intervals of the new 6.4L Power Stroke V-8 turbo diesel.

Maintenance

• Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel must be used in the 6.4L to allow the emissions control system, including the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to operate properly

• CJ-4 service standard oil must be used when the engine oil is serviced

• Fuel-water separator should be drained monthly to avoid possible water in the fuel injectors

• Engine block heater should be used at temperatures below –10 degrees F (–23 degrees C) to ensure proper engine lubrication on start-up

• Recommend using biodiesel that is no higher than 5 percent (B5) to ensure optimum fuel economy. Follow the special

operating conditions maintenance schedule if using biodiesel

• Refer customers to the Diesel Engine Maintenance DVD in the Owner’s Guide package

• For the California Heavy-duty Diesel Engine Idle Requirement, guidance from California and compliance with this requirement is still being finalized. Dealers will be informed of the updates to this requirement once it has been completed

Service Intervals

• 10,000-mile normal and 5000-mile special operating conditions oil-change intervals — new oil specification CJ-4 required for 6.4L to operate properly

• 20,000-mile normal and 10,000-mile special operating conditions fuel-filter change intervals — both fuel filters must be replaced according to maintenance intervals

• Allows upfitters to supply power to hydraulically driven accessories such as dump bodies, sprayers, pumps, generators, etc.

• Option code 62R must be ordered to get a PTO gear and port with the TorqShift 5-speed automatic transmission

• 6-speed manual overdrive transmission has a PTO gear and port standard

• The optional upfitter switches may be used as PTO control switch(es)

Stationary Elevated Idle Control (SEIC)

Manual Shift with Manual Locking Hubs

• Simple, reliable design that is highly regarded by serious off-roaders

• To engage the front axle, the operator must stop, exit the vehicle and rotate both hublock selector knobs to the LOCK position, then the desired drive range is selected on the transfer case

• Floor-mounted transfer case shift lever is used to move between available drive settings: 2H (2WD), 4H (4x4 High), N (Neutral) and 4L (4x4 Low)

• When the hublocks are returned to the FREE position, the drive axle components do not rotate while driving, which reduces wear and frictional drag

Electronic Shift-on-the-fly System

• Easy-to-use rotary control switch mounted in the instrument panel used to select drive settings, eliminating the need to stop and back up to unlock the front hubs

• Electric motor actually shifts the transfer case into selected drive setting

• Front hublock selectors are marked with AUTO and LOCK. Manual override capability lets the driver manually LOCK hubs if preferred, but the Pulse Vacuum Hublock (PVH) design engages the front hubs, providing virtually silent operation

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

• TPMS uses a tire pressure sensor mounted to a metal band and banded in the wheel’s drop well

• Sensors use radio frequency transmitters to send tire pressure information to the vehicle’s onboard computer

• The computer illuminates a warning light and sounds an audible tone when tire pressure is significantly low

• System is completely hidden from sight and uses a standard rubber valve stem

• Can be used on steel or aluminum wheels

• Replacing the tire can be easily done without removing the sensor

• TPMS provides a more accurate tire pressure reading because it measures actual tire pressure as opposed to wheel speed like the Low Tire Warning System

• Senses temperature-based pressure loss where all four wheels are affected

• Resetting the system is easy. Once tire pressure has been restored to its recommended level, TPMS-equipped vehicles simply need to be driven over 20 mph for at least 2 minutes to be reset

• Standard on SRW units built on or after 7/30/07

Customer Action Required

Check tire pressure to ensure proper inflation. Ford recommends a digital or dial-type tire pressure gauge for increased accuracy.

• After inflating cold tires to manufacturer’s recommended pressure as shown on the tire label, the vehicle must be driven for at least 2 minutes at over 20 mph to turn the light off and reset the system

• If the light remains on even after these steps have been taken, have the system inspected by the dealership Service Department

NOTE: If the outside overnight temperature is significantly lower than the daytime temperature, tire pressure may decrease 1 psi for every 10 degrees F in temperature change. This may cause the TPMS warning to illuminate. If all tires appear to be inflated, customers should manually check the pressure and inflate all the tires to the recommended cold pressure.

• Driving on the spare tire may activate the TPMS warning light, causing it to flash for 75 seconds followed by a solid light. Repair the damaged road wheel and remount it on the vehicle. Reset the TPMS by driving at over 20 mph for at least 2 minutes

• If the tires are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure and the spare tire is not in use, have the system inspected by the Service Department

Quietness inside and out, because of improvements working together to reduce wind, road and powertrain noise. This is the quietest Super Duty ever.

SD Pickups

Ladder-type Frame that includes fully boxed front frame rails with unique front frame horn design lowers the frame by 7 inches. Robust outer frame rails are connected to crossmembers that are riveted, welded or both,

for added strength and long-term durability. Lowering the frame rails provides several benefits:

• Eliminates the need for a BlockerBeam

• Enables a better fit for the Snowplow Package

• Allows for a larger radiator for improved cooling

Transmission Fluid Temperature Gauge monitors the automatic transmission for optimum operation levels and reliability, and alerts the driver when the vehicle needs service (standard with automatic transmissions).

Turbo Boost Gauge lets the driver know the turbo boost from the diesel engine is within the proper levels.

Engine Hour Meter in the message center indicates the number of hours the engine has been in operation. This is an especially useful feature for proper vehicle maintenance.

ENGINEERING INSIGHT: Powertrain Testing

The team that developed the new 6.4L Power Stroke® V-8 turbo diesel gathered real-world data from working Super Duty commercial customers. They used this data to develop durability tests that were more representative of real-life work cycles. The tests used the most extreme and abusive conditions and ran to five times the life cycle of the hardestworking truck. As a result, more than 500 design improvements were made to improve diesel performance and durability.

Snowplow Installation/Minimum Required And Recommended Equipment

The Super Duty F-Series vehicles tabled below are available for snowplow usage.

Minimum Required Equipment

• Snowplow Package, includes:

— Front Spring/GAWR Upgrade (Refer to the Weight Ratings charts on pages 60–62 for specific spring/GAWR

selection for each model) — Unique fan clutch with higher disengagement speed (6.4L V-8 Diesel) — 200 Amp., 3000 Watt Alternator (6.4L V-8 Diesel)

• Plow and attaching hardware weight limits are as tabled below.

Recommended Equipment (Not Required)

• All-Terrain Tires and Roof Clearance Lights (Optional with SRW Pickup models)

Standard Equipment

• Front and rear stabilizer bar (Rear standard on Chassis Cab and DRW Pickup models)

• Roof Clearance Lights (Standard on Chassis Cab and DRW Pickup models)

• Steering Damper

• Engine oil cooler, auxiliary automatic transmission oil cooler and maximum capacity engine coolant radiator are standard

• All available axle ratios are acceptable

Snowplow Installation/Minimum Required And Recommended Equipment

Completed Vehicle Weight

The weight of the completed vehicle with equipment installed (and second unit body, if applicable) must not exceed the Front GAWR, Rear GAWR, or GVWR established by Ford, with consideration for the driver and one front seat passenger. If sufﬁcient weight is added such that the completed vehicle with a driver and more than one passenger would exceed Front GAWR, Rear GAWR, or GVWR, it is the responsibility of the equipment installer to notify the customer of the appropriate use restrictions. (i.e.: That the user should limit occupancy of the vehicle to the driver and one passenger while the equipment is installed.) The addition of ballast weight, placed rearward of the rear axle, may be required to prevent front end overloading or exceeding Front GAWR. If required, the ballast weight must be securely attached to the vehicle. For Ford completed vehicles of 10,000 lbs. GVWR or less, the weight of permanently attached equipment must not exceed the Total Accessory Reserve Capacity (T.A.R.C.) as speciﬁed on the Safety Compliance Certiﬁcation Label. Permanently attached equipment includes the snowplow frame-mounting hardware, and does not include the removable snowplow blade assembly. Exceeding T.A.R.C. will require recertiﬁcation.

Front End Wheel Alignment and Headlight Aim

Front end wheel alignment (toe) and headlight aim may require readjustment after installation of equipment, and is the responsibility of the equipment installer. Failure to reset front wheel alignment may cause premature uneven tire wear. If required, reset to chassis manufacturer’s speciﬁcations found in the Ford Shop Manual.

Electrical Connections

Installation of any inductive load devices (i.e., electric motors, electric clutches for clutch pumps, etc.) MUST NOT be connected to OEM wiring or fuse panels. Power for such devices should be taken directly from the battery or starter motor relay power terminal. Control of these devices should be achieved via relays. No direct current path should exist between OEM wiring and the installed load that is not ﬁltered by the battery. These recommendations are intended to reduce or eliminate any induced reverse voltage into the OEM circuitry.

The Normal Ford New Vehicle Limited Warranty applies to vehicles with snowplows installed in accordance with these guidelines. Consult your Ford dealer or the Owner’s Guide for any further questions.
