The Seam Guide
This attachment will help you guide the fabric. You will use it to make straight seams and tucks and for placing stitching evenly around curved edges.

To Sew a Fine Seam
A plain seam is made by stitching two fabric edges together. A seam must be started, stitched and ended just so to be perfect. This is how to do it.

Sew a Seam continued...
To end a seam, stitch right off the edge of the fabric and let the machine make a chain about one inch long. Press sew lever down to stop sewing. Cut chain in the middle.
To start a new seam, hold the fabric edge against the front of the presser foot and raise the sew lever to SEW position. The fabric will "feed" under the foot and you'll be on your way.

To End Stitching in Fabric
Sometimes you may need to end your stitching in the fabric. It is a good idea to finish tucks, pleats, hems and circles of stitching this way.

The Right Tension
A perfect seam is strong, flat and smooth. To make a perfect seam the tension on your thread must be just right.Tension is adjusted by turning the tension thumb nut.
If your stitching looks like this, make it tighter by turning the tension thumb nut to the right.
If your stitching looks like this, make it looser by turning the tension thumb nut to the left.
When your seam looks like this, the tension is just right.

To Change Needle
When your needle becomes blunt or bent, change it right away. Loosen the screw and pull out the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side toward the left, push it up as far as it will go, and then tighten the screw as shown.
Before you begin, be sure that the motor is off, the sew lever and presser foot are down, and the needle bar is up.
