1. Introduction
1.1. Features
Thank you for purchasing SimpleTech’s USB Multi-Card Reader. The USB Card Reader is the most powerful and multi-functional device among all the available readers, since it is able to access most of the storage cards and read/write four different types of cards at the same time. USB Card Reader utilizes the most useful and popular USB interface and is Mass Storage Compliant, bringing you convenient and high-speed access to a variety of storage cards. USB Card Reader supports almost all the available storage cards including: 3.3V SmartMedia Card, Type I/II CompactFlash Card, IBM Microdrive, Memory Stick, Secure Digital Card, and MultiMedia Card.
Primary features of the USB Card Reader include:
USB 1.1 interface; Access speed up to 12 Mbits/second.
USB bus powered. Hence, AC power adapter is not required.
Supports Hot -Swapping and Mass Storage Class Drive; no drivers needed under Windows ME/XP.
Includes POWER and ACCESS LED indicators.
Different sockets can be used at the same time.
Supports the following storage cards:
o 3.3V SM/Type I&II CF/IBM Microdrive/SD/MMC/MS
Supports the following operating systems:
o Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP o Mac OS 8.6+, 9.x+, 10.x Operating Systems

Indicators
Two active LED indicators are used to display operation status of your USB Card Reader. The Green LED lighting on top indicates that the reader is connected to system and the power is on. The Red flashing LED at the bottom indicates that the reader is reading or writing data in inserted cards.
WARNING!
Do not insert or extract storage cards while the Red LED is flashing which indicates that the reader is being accessed by the computer.

2. Installation Procedure
First software setup should be done, and then do the USB connection as shown below.

3. Software Setup for Windows Operating Systems
3.1. Software Setup for Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP only
Before connecting the USB Card Reader into USB port, install the device driver as per the following instructions.
1. Insert the Install ation CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. The software will be automatically installed on your computer. Otherwise, Double-click the CD-ROM icon in My Computer to browse the contents in the Setup Disc. Then, double-click the Setup icon.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software setup.
4. After the installation is complete , restart the system.
The software driver revision number is mentioned in README.TXT in the Setup Disc. After completing device driver setup, refer to Hardware Setup and install the USB Card Reader.
3.2. Hardware Setup
After completing device dr iver setup for your USB Card Reader and restarting the system, refer to following instructions to connect the USB Card Reader.
1. Connect USB cable of your reader unit to the available USB port of your computer.
2. Your computer automatically recognizes the USB Card Reader.
3. Double click on My Computer. You will see four Removable Drive icons representing the four sockets in the USB Reader as shown below.
Note: If you are having Windows XP earlier than Service Pack1, you will not see the above icon images.
Instead, you will only see four removable drive letters representing the sockets in the USB Reader. If you want the above icon images to show up, please download and install Service Pack1 from Microsoft web site http://www.microsoft.com and then reinstall the USB driver. Alternately, when you format the cards, you can rename the cards as “CF”, SD”, “SM” and MS” to help you distinguish the cards on your computer.
The installation of your USB Card Reader is now complete.
