SRP9180 PORTABLE RADIO
Note.
The SRP9180 Series has two variants, one with a key pad (SRP9180) and one without (SRP9170).

PERATIONAL MODE
The S RP9170/80 Radio can be configured as a conventional (PMR) mode, Trunked Radio mode (TMR), P25 Digital Mode or a combination of modes as a multi mode radio.

EYS
With the default configuration, the Menu navigates through the features of the Radio. The Up/Down keys move through the entries in each menu. The OK key selects the entry. The F4 key (Back) returns to the previous level. These four keys are also re-configurable if required.
Function Keys 5, 6 and 7 can be programmed to any of the functions listed in the field programmer.

EFORE USE
Before operating the Radio:
Ensure that a fully charged battery is fitted to the radio. Ensure that the antenna is firmly secured.

ATTERY
To remove battery: Slide latch down (1) and lift out (2).
To fit battery: Seat lower end first (2) and push battery top in.
Battery condition is shown on the Display. If the battery is low the battery symbol flashes, the status LED flashes red and an audible warning sounds.

WITCH ON THE RADIO
To turn the radio on, turn the rotary volume control until it clicks. A welcome message is displayed and the top LED illuminates green for 2 seconds. Adjust the v olume control to about mid position.

ECEIVE CALLS
PMR/P25 Conv: Select the required channel using the
Up/Down keys (hold down either key for fast scroll).
If the channel is busy, the status LED flashes yellow.
On radios with selective signalling, only the calls relevant to you are heard.
TMR/P25 Trunk: The radio will automatically find the local trunked base (if within range). When in range, the radio will display the network name as configured by the dealer.
Press the PTT to answer a call in most cases (config. dependant).

AKE A CALL
Select the required channel (PMR/P25 Conv.) or called party/Talk group (TMR/P25 Trunk) with the Up/Down keys.
For TMR only, set up the call by pressing the PTT briefly. Two short beeps will indicate the call is connected, or a low long beep will indicate call failure.
Press and hold the PTT button and speak into the microphone to transmit (wait for Grant tone in P25).
Release the PTT button to end the transmission. When transmitting, the status LED is illuminated red.
When Function Key 7 is programmed as an Alarm Key, pressing the key automatically runs a pre-programmed alarm sequence. To reset the Radio after an alarm call, switch the radio off and then on.

ROBLEMS AND HINTS
The SRP9170/80 Radio is a high quality reliable product. In the unlikely event of a problem, please check the following points before contacting your supplier:
If the Radio fails to work, check that the battery is charged and correctly fitted and that the radio is switched on. If the radio does not receive or send calls, check t hat the antenna is correctly fitted and the volume is turned up.
Check that there is sufficient signal strength at your position using the signal strength indicator on the LCD display, if not move to an area where the signal strength is adequate.
If the Radio displays an error message at switch on, please refer to your supplier.

ARE OF YOUR RADIO
To keep your Radio clean use a slightly DAMP soft cloth for all exterior surfaces - DO NOT use chemical, aerosol or abrasive cleaners.
To ensure efficient operation, the battery contacts should be periodically cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
Batteries must be disposed of in accordance with your local Health & Safety Regulations. DO NOT incinerate or dispose of as normal waste.

IMPORTANT SAFETY
WARNINGS
Radios marked with IECEx approval are suitable for use in certain hazardous areas.
The Intrinsically Safe protection rating (ref. AS/NZS 60079) for these radios is:
Ex ic IIA T4 (Approved for Zone 2, Gas Group IIA, Temperature class T4)
The following MUST be observed to maintain the IECEx protection rating:
Use only approved SIMOCO battery, part number PAR­9180BATL2 or PAR9180BATL3.
Battery connection, disconnection, and charging must only be carried out in non-hazardous areas.
Metal belt clips must NOT be used in hazardous areas.
When the radio is used in a hazardous area either the SRP9180 Accessory Cover Assy (6102 350 1446) or an approved Simoco IECEx accessory must be fitted.
Approved accessories may only be connected and disconnected outside the hazardous area.
Refer to Operating Instructions for further IECEx warnings, and lists of approved accessories.
GENERAL WARNINGS:
Do NOT o perate the radio if the antenna has become
disconnected or damaged.
Obey the 'Turn Off Two-way Radios' signs where these are posted, e.g. on a petrol station forecourt.
Do NOT use or store the battery above +60 °C.
DISPLAY
Icon Function
Indicates that the Keypad is locked. Press OK Key for 2 seconds to unlock.
Solid Speaker Icon. Indicates that the radio is receiving a valid signal, and audio can be heard from the speaker.
Speaker Outline Icon. Indicates the radio is receiving an invalid signal. The channel is busy so user should not Tx.
Rotating Arrow. Indicates that the radio is scanning a group of channels or trunked system when in trunked mode.
Arrow Icon indicates that the radio is transmitting.
Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). Associated bars show signal strength.
Encryption Indicator is shown if the channel has been programmed for Encryption. Off for a non-encrypted signal.
The asterisk symbol indicates whether the radio has been “called” or is in the “on-call” state.
Envelope icon. Indicates that a message(s) stored if icon steady. Icon flashes if unread message(s) stored.
Battery charge indicator. Six vertical bars above the icon show’s the battery charge.
RX/TX LED
Green LED when receiving a signal.
Red LED when the radio is transmitting.
KEYS
Key Symbol Function
Power On/Off Volume
The radio is switched on by turning the volume knob clockwise and switched off by turning it anti-clockwise. Turning the knob clockwise increases volume.
Channel Change
Rotate to select desired channel.
3 Position Function Switch
Programmable Function Switch.
PTT
Push-To-Talk. Hold the radio about 10cm from mouth, press and hold the PTT switch. Release to listen.
F1 Key

Programmable Function Key. Default - Menu Select. Press this key to enter the menu system, then use () or () to select the desired menu
F2 Key

Programmable Function Key. Default - Channel Down.
