Introducing the AVTuner Pro-PVR
The AVTuner Pro-PVR is a new generation TV box which you can use with your CRT, LCD, Plasma or projection monitor to watch, record, pause live TV and capture high resolution video on your computer.

- TV Box mode: adds/deletes favorite channels
- USB TV Capture mode: rewinds video playback

- TV Box mode: calls up favorite channel list
- USB TV Capture mode: stops video playback

Hardware Installation
With the AVTuner Pro-PVR you can watch live TV on your PC without the use of Windows operating system (TV Box mode) or watch/record/pause live TV/Video while in Windows (USB TV Capture mode). To view live TV without the use of Windows, skip step #7 in
Connecting To Your PC on page 6, and skip Software Installation section on page 7. Otherwise complete all
instructions.

1. Connect the coaxial cable from your antenna/cable/ satellite TV to the Tuner In connector, and/or any other video sources, such as DVD player, VCR, or DV camcorder, utilizing the S-Video, Composite video and left/right audio inputs on the front panel (see Figure 1 on page 2 for more information).
2. Connect the VGA extension cable to the VGA In of the AVTuner Pro-PVR, then connect the other end to the VGA output of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor's VGA connector to the Monitor jack of the AVTuner Pro-PVR.
4. Skip this step if the AVTuner Pro-PVR and your PC will use separate speaker systems. Plug one end of the
3.5mm stereo cable into the Line In of the AVTuner Pro-PVR, then plug the other end into Speaker out/
Line out port of the computer's sound card.
5. Connect speakers to the Speaker jack of the AVTuner Pro-PVR.
6. Connect the Switching Power adapter to the Power connector, then plug the power adapter into a reliable power source.
7. Plug the type B connector of the USB data cable into the USB port of the AVTuner Pro-PVR. Do not connect the other end of the cable into the computer's USB port until first completing Software Installation section on page 7. The USB connection enables you to
view, record and pause live TV and video while in Windows.

Software Installation
This software is needed for watching and recording live TV and video while in Windows. Skip this section if you do not need this feature.
Windows XP
1. Boot up Windows. At the Windows desktop insert the driver CD.
2. The installation should auto start, if not, click Start,
Run. Type in D:\AVShow\setup.exe, then click OK. (Change D: to match your CD-ROM drive
letter)
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the driver and WinDVR 3 software. The serial number for WinDVR 3 is on the CD-ROM sleeve.
4. Restart Windows when prompted.
5. When Windows resumes, plug the AVTuner Pro-PVR into a USB port to complete the installation.
Operating Instructions
Configuring the AVTuner Pro-PVR
Before using the AVTuner Pro-PVR, please configure it using the instructions below.
For TV Box mode
In TV Box mode, you can watch live TV and video without your computer.
1. Press the Power button on the AVTuner Pro-PVR.
2. Press the Menu button on the front panel to display the menu options.

3. Use the Vol buttons to select the Area Settings menu, then press Enter on the front panel. Use the Ch buttons on the front panel to select your country, then press Enter on the front panel to confirm. Press the Menu button to return to the menu options.
4. Use the Vol button to select the TV Source menu, then press Enter on the front panel. Use the Ch buttons on the front panel to select TV or CATV, then press Enter on the front panel to confirm. Press the Menu button to return to the menu options.
5. Use the Vol button to select the Auto Scan menu, then press Enter on the front panel. Use the Ch buttons on the front panel to select Channel scan, then press Enter on the front panel to confirm. Press the Menu button to return to the menu options.
Note: Selecting Freq Scan or Finetune will increase the amount of channels found.
For USB TV Capture mode
In USB TV Capture mode, you can watch, record, pause live TV and capture high resolution video on your computer.
The first time WinDVR 3 is started, the initilization wizard will guide you through the steps in configuring the software. Follow the directions below to configure the software.
1. Press the Power button on the AVTuner Pro-PVR.
2. Press the PC/TV button on the front panel to switch to USB TV Capture mode. Boot up Windows.
3. At the Windows desktop, press the Power button on the front panel or double click the WinDVR 3 icon on the desktop to start WinDVR 3.

4. At the Device window, confirm the settings, then click Next.
5. At the TV window, confirm the settings, then click Next.
6. At the Channel window, click Auto scan.
7. When Auto scan completes, click Next.
8. At the Storage window, click Finish to complete the software setup.
Menu Options (TV Box mode)
Picture: adjusts brightness, contrast, tint and saturation
Source: selects video sources; TV, Composite, S-Video
Resolution: adjusts the resolution of the screen between four modes; 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024
Sleep Setting: selects sleep time settings; Off, 10min, 30min, 60min, 90min
Load Default: selects Yes or No to load the default values
Screen Set: selects 4:3 or 16:9 screen aspect ratio
Channel Edit: displays current channel, switches
current channel, exchanges channel number and deletes current channel
Language: selects language
OSD Mode: selects different on screen display
styles
Screen positions: adjusts horizontal and vertical display axis

TV Source: selects Air (antenna) or CATV
Area Settings: selects your country
Favorite Channel: adds or deletes your favorite
channels
Auto Scan: scans for available channels
WinDVR 3
With WinDVR 3 you can view and record live TV and Video on your PC. This section is an overview of WinDVR 3, for more information, please refer to the online help database by clicking on the question mark(?)in the Control Panel window.
Control Panel
The control panel provides easy access to all of the most commonly used function in the program and is designed to look like controls on a VCR. Keep in mind that not all options are available all the time, and may be grayed out depending on your hardware setup and TV service.

Previous and Next chapter: If you are playing a DVD with chapter breaks you can use these buttons to navigate through them (not active in TV mode)

Program: The larger button opens the full program list dialog box, which contains all of the video files you’ve made with WinDVR 3, while the smaller button, located between the Rewind and Fast Forward buttons, opens the recently opened files list containing the 10 most recently used program file names
Panel Button: The first (right-pointing) arrow opens the Panel menu, from which you can select either DV Panel, TV Panel or General Panel, depending on your mode of operation. The second (left-pointing) arrow collapses the secondary panel
Display Screen
The display screen provides the staus of the ongoing process and selected configuration. The appearance may vary according to the current task.
TV/Video Feed
L-R: Help, Minimize, Maximize, and Exit WinDVR
Displays the current process, e.g. either TV, video feed or recording mode
Displays the selected video input source

Displays the selected video capture/TV tuner card
Displays the currently selected TV channel Displays the current time
Playback and Record
Displays the current process, e.g. program (playback) or record
Displays the elapsed time Displays channel information
Sub-Control Panel
The Sub-control panel provides additional options specific to the device and/or mode you are currently in. Click the Panel Button to open, from which you may select one of three panels: DV, TV or General.
TV Panel
EPG (Electronic Program Guide): opens the online channel listings

Teletext: for Europe only Surfing: lets you browse thumbnail images
of available channels Schedule: opens window for scheduling
recordings, or reminders for program times Closed Caption: displays overlayed text
captions, when available
Setup: opens WinDVR 3 setup window Video source: cycles through the available

Video Window: lets you select the default video window; Normal, Always On and Video Desktop

On Screen Display (OSD): activates the on screen display of command functions
Setup: opens WinDVR 3 setup window

Right Click Menu
At any time while running WinDVR 3, you can place the cursor on the display window and right click your mouse to display a pop-up text menu as seen below. The commands on this menu are the same as those on the WinDVR 3 control panel, along with some extra options.

TV Audio:
- Mono: single audio channel
- Stereo: dual audio channels sent to their corresponding left and right speakers
- SAP: Second Audio Program, often used for bilingual programs
Panel: displays or hides the WinDVR 3 control panel Aspect Ratio:
- Free: lets you stretch the screen to any size
- 4 x 3: sizes the video display to 320 x 420 pixels
- 16 x 9: sizes the video display to standard film dimensions (also known as wide screen)
Screen Size:
- 320 x 240: sizes the program’s display window to this pixel dimension
- 640 x 480: sizes the program’s display window to this pixel dimension
Zoom and Pan: lets you zoom in on the video and then pan around it
OSD: activates and deactivates the On Screen Display Video Desktop: activates and deactivates the Video
Desktop feature Volume:
- Volume Up: increases the program’s volume
- Volume Down: decreases the program’s volume
