The VE VVG electronic two-way valves control the flow of water or glycol solutions. The
electronic actuator requires a 24 Vac supply and receives a 0 to 10 Vdc cont rol signal
to control the 7/32-inch (5.5 mm) nominal stroke valve.
• Maintenance free actuator with reversible motor.
• Selector plug on actuator permits selection of linear or equal percentage flow
• Available with union or sweat end connect ions (1/2-inch and 3/4-i nch).
• Double O-ring packing with Teflon® wiper.
• Manual override knob with indication of stroke allows for repositioning of the valve
in power-off condit ions (SQS65U only).
• Spring return closes f low port i n power-of f condition (SQS65.5U only).
Use the VE VVG as a control and shutoff valve in small to medium HVAC installations
for hot water and chill ed water applications. Use in closed circ uits only.
NOTE:This valv e is not designed for steam applications. See valve body
specifications for details.

Warning/Caution Notations
Operation
WARNING:
Personal injury or loss of life may occur if you do not perform
a procedure as specified.
CAUTION:
Equipment damage may occur if you do not follow procedure
as specified.
The arrow on the valve indicates the direction of flow. The direction of flow is always
from II (A ) to I (AB). See Figure 1.
CAUTION:
Removing the bottom cap will not convert the two-way valve into a
three-way valve.
Installation
Figure 1. VVG Val ve Direction of Flow.
An electronic motor actuator positions the valve. A continuous 0 to 10 Vdc signal
controls the actuator.
The valve provides a linear flow characteristic. A selector plug on the SQS… actuator
allows selection of linear or equal percentage flow characteristic. The valve stroke is
proportional to the control signal with linear flow selected. See Figure 4.
A zero voltage control signal returns the valve to its "0" position. In the event of a power
failure, the SQS65U holds its last position, and the SQS65.5U returns the valve to its
fail-saf e position.
The position output 0 to 10 Vdc signal "U" produces position feedback to the field panel.
An additive control input at R for 0 to 1000 ohms allows control by either a low
temperature det ector or a remote setting unit.
• The valve assembly can be installed in the supply or return line.
NOTE:For hot water installations, it is recommended to place the valve in the return
line because the tem perature is lower.
• Match the direction of flow with the symbol cast on the valve body. See Figure 1.
• Allow 8 inches (200 mm) of cl earance for installation and servi ce.

Installation,
Continued
• Mount the assembly in any position except with the actuator beneath the valve.
See Figure 2 for allowable mounting positions.
• Before installing the actuator, use a protective plastic cap (Figure 1) to manually
position t he valve. The plastic cap opens up to 80% flow from II (A) to I (AB). The
valve cannot be fully opened using the plastic cap.
NOTE:Do not discard the plastic cap. It may be needed during troubleshooting or for
emergency valve operation.
CAUTION:
Dirt in the piping system can cause valve problems. Before starting-up and
troubleshooting the valve, make certain that the piping system is free of dirt
and foreign particles. It is recommended that a filter is placed upstream of
the valve.

Start-Up
• All units that connect to terminals Y and U, together with the SQS65U, must
connect to the same G0.
• When wiring the position output to AI terminations, connect terminal U to SIG and
terminal G0 to COM.
• The factory-fitted link across terminals R and M can be removed only if a unit
connects between these terminals.
Remove the actuator cover and verify the selector plug is set for the desired flow
characteristic. See Figure 4.

Figure 4. Selector Plug Setting for Flow Characteristic.
• Check wiring f or appropriate connections (Figure 3).
• Check selector plug for proper flow characteristic.
• Check valve operation. Thread plastic valve cap (Figure 1) onto top of valve. Turn it
to adjust valve position.
