Installation Instructions
Model MEM-1
MXL Memory Expansion Module
OPERATION
The Model MEM-1 Memory Expansion module
kit provides the MXL System with the additional
memory required to support MMB firmware
revisions 7.0 and higher. If your MXL System is
being upgraded to an MMB firmware revision
of 7.0 or higher and the MMB-1 does not have
a factory installed MEM-1, then you must install
the MEM-1.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
Remove all system power before
installation, first battery and then AC.
NOTE: If the MKB-1 in your MXL System
straddles the MMB-1 board, remove
the MKB-1 before proceeding.
NOTE: If your MXL System has an IEC-1
module, remove it before installing the
MEM-1.
The installation kit for the MEM-1 includes the
following items:
1. New IC107 (replaces IC107 on MMB-1)
2. MEM-1
3. Nylon standoff
1. Install the new IC107
A new IC107 (20-pin IC) for the MMB-1 is required to support the MEM-1. This new IC107
replaces the existing IC107 which is in a socket
just above and to the left of the expansion connector P7 (See Figure 1).
a. Remove the old IC107 from the socket
and replace it with the new IC107 in the
MEM-1 kit.
b. Be sure that pin 1 of the new IC107 is
pointing down (toward P7).
2. Install the MEM-1
The MEM-1 installs into P7 on the MMB-1. P7 is
a 40-position DIP socket labeled Expansion
Connector which is located at the bottom center
of the MMB-1. The MEM-1 installs into this socket
and spans IC101 which is the large square
device to the right of P7. The MEM-1 has an
adhesive backed nylon standoff that supports the
right side of the module. This standoff must be
installed.
a. Remove the paper on the standoff to
expose the adhesive.
b. Insert the 40 pin header (P1) into P7 on
the MMB-1 being careful to align all of the
pins. You may have to adjust the standoff
so that it clears IC101.
c. Once the header is fully inserted, press
down on the right side of the module to
adhere the standoff to the MMB-1.

3. Set the Jumper on the MEM-1
The MEM-1 has a configuration jumper P2 (See
Figure 2) that must be set to work with the
MSU-1K kit that contains the new firmware. Refer
to the MSU-1K Installation Instructions, P/N 315-
092542, for the proper setting of the jumper.
4. Install the EPROM on the MEM-1
Included in the MSU-1K kit is an EPROM labeled
U2. This EPROM goes into the U2 socket on the
MEM-1. Refer to the MSU-1K Installation Instruc-
tions, P/N 315-092542, for the procedure to install
the EPROM.
5. Re-install the IEC-1
If the IEC-1 was removed before installing the
MEM-1, re-install it now.
