Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
a) Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have
questions, contact the manufacturer.
b) Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at service panel and
lock service panel. This will prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service panel cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.
c) Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in
accordance with all applicable codes & standards, including fire-rated construction.
d) Sufficient make-up air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of
gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturer’s guideline and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Condi-
tioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the local code authorities. e) Due to the size and weight of this unit, two installers are recommended. f) When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring or
other hidden utilities. g) To properly exhaust air, be sure to duct air outside. Do not vent exhaust air
into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages. h) Install this hood in accordance with all requirements specified. i) The hood is equipped with an internal blower. Other ventilator blowers CAN-
NOT be substituted.
WARNING - TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, USE ONLY METAL DUCTWORK.
WARNING: Turn off power circuit at service panel and lock out panel before wiring this appliance.
CAUTION: This unit is approved for use with residential appliances. For general residential kitchen ventilating use only. DO NOT use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials or vapors. Vent unit to the outside.
Note: The appliance referred to throughout this manual is manufactured by BSH Home Appliances Corporation.

Installation
1) General Information Electrical Requirement: 120V AC, 60Hz. 15A Branch Circuit.
The hood is equipped with an internal blower. It is not designed for use with a remote blower.
The hood must be ducted to the outside. It is not designed for use with a recirculation unit and/or charcoal filters.
For the most efficient air flow exhaust, use a straight duct run or as few elbows as possible.
Do not use flex ducting. Always use metal ductwork with minimum diameter of 6”. A transition is necessary to connect to larger diameter ductwork or to square ductwork.
COLD WEATHER installations should have an additional backdraft damper installed to minimize backward cold air flow and a nonmetallic thermal break to minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the ductwork. The damper should be on the cold air side of the thermal break. The break should be as close as possible to where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house.
Always install a metal vent cover where the ductwork exits the house.
Hood installation height above cooktop is the user’s preference. The lower the hood above the cooktop, the more efficient the capturing of cooking odors, grease, and smoke. This hood has been approved for installations as low as 30” and as high as 36” above the cooktop. The lower height may be inconvenient for tall people and large cooking vessels.
In addition, the chimney sections, when fully extended, measure 42 3/4” tall. In order for the upper chimney section to meet the ceiling, the highest allowable ceiling height is 9 1/2’ (assumes the hood is installed 36” above the cooktop).
Make-Up Air: Local building codes may require the use of make-up air systems when using ducted ventilation systems greater than specified CFM of air movement. The specified CFM varies from locale to locale. Consult your HVAC professional for specific requirements in your area.
2) Unpack Hood Pull hood from outer packaging. Remove and discard all packaging materials.
3) Prepare ductwork Install one way damper as shown in Figure 1. If necessary, install transition, ther-
mal break and additional backdraft damper.

4) Prepare Wall The hood must be mounted through the back wall. It cannot be mounted from
above. See General Information, page 2, for suggestions for determining hood height.
Once the preferred height is determined, draw a line at the vertical centerline of the cooking appliance.
Use the installation template to locate and mark the screw holes.
Drill 4 pilot holes for hood screws and 2 pilot holes for chimney screws. Install plugs in screw holes so that they are flush with the wall.
Note: At least one screw must be installed through a stud.

Install two screws in top hood screw holes. Leave a 1/4” of each screw exposed.
5) Attach Chimney Mounting Bracket
Attach spacers to holes on chimney mounting bracket arms, as seen in figure 2.
Attach chimney mounting bracket to wall through chimney screw holes created in previous step. Use two screws.
