VACUUM REGULATING VALVE 94-054-00
Installation and Operation Instructions
The Vacuum Regulating Valve (VRV) allows Standard SHURflo Beverage/Juice Gas Pumps, and BRIX Pumps to receive liquid from a pressurized source. These pumps are not designed to have positive pressure on the inlet side. By positioning a VRV at the inlet of the secondary pump, incoming liquid pressure is reduced to zero. Long tubing runs or high vertical lift can be achieved by installing pumps in series.
The VRV is intended for concentrates with particulates (round, up to .025 [.6mm]). The VRV is not suitable for concentrates that contain seed particles or pulps classed as "long/stringy". Refer to SHURflo Installation Manual
#
911-293 for general Gas Pump information. Refer to the Juice Gas Pump Manual #911-437 for information on using
pumps with viscous products. If installing a BRIX pump, detailed plumbing information is outlined in manual #911-332. Whenever long distances or vertical tubing are an issue, the most significant benefit will be gained by using larger I.D.
(1/2" or 3/8"[13 or 10 mm]) tubing. The tables in the instructions which accompany the gas/juice pumps, indicate a distance at the desired flow rate for length of horizontal outlet tubing. The losses within vertical tubing lengths are much greater. If there is vertical lift within the tubing run, calculate the loses as outlined in the manuals.
PUMPING CAPABILITY
Prior to performing the actual installation SHURflo recommends an evaluation of concentrates being pumped. Due to the diversity in concentrates and their characteristics (viscosity, type or amount of solids, etc.) actual results will vary. The placement of the VRV and pumps will ultimately depend on the access along the tubing run available for mounting.
The first, second, third and so on..., pumps must supply the necessary flow and pressure to the next pump in series. The final pump must supply the required pressure/flow to the dispenser valve(s) for brix to be maintained. The tubing run between each pump should be calculated from the charts and vertical calculations found in the manuals.
GAS PUMP SYSTEMS
Purge air as a normal gas pump system.
BRIX PUMP SYSTEM
Post Mix BRIX pump applications can be rapidly purged of air by pressing the center button on VRV. The concentrate will pass through the BRIX pump concentrate side through to the unvalved passage of the dispenser (see BRIX pump manual). BRIX pumps systems with "Teed" outlet lines are purged similar to post-mix except the dispenser valve must be open.

NOTES:
1. Plumb the VRV within 1ft. [.3 M] of the secondary pumps' inlet port. Only use heavy wall (1/8" [3 mm]) clear, NSF
listed vacuum tubing between the VRV and the secondary pumps' inlet.
2. All pressurized tubing runs must use high pressure, NSF listed, braided tubing. Use ½"[13mm] tubing for viscous
products. When pulling concentrate tubing simultaneously install a CO2 line to supply secondary pump(s).
3. Connect pressurized concentrate to the center port of the VRV.
4. The inlet port of the VRV(s) must have a minimum of 20 psi.[1.4 bar], when the dispenser valve(s) is flowing at the proper
rate.
5. Maximum inlet pressure to the VRV is 70 psi. [4.8 bar].
6. The maximum flow rate of the VRV is 2 oz. [60cc] p/sec. Flow rates vary with concentrate viscosity, and temperature.
7. Temperature limits: 33°120°F [1.1°49°C]
8.3/8" [10mm] fittings are standard. Also, available are ½" or ¼" [13 or 6 mm] fittings.
V.R.V. LIMITED WARRANTY
SHURflo warrants the Vacuum Regulating Valve to be free from material and workmanship defects (under normal use and service) for a period of two (2) years from the date of manufacture. An additional 30 days may be added to allow for storage and transit delays. In any event, the total limited warranty period will not exceed twenty-five (25) months from date of manufacture.
The limited warranty will not apply to product that were improperly installed, misapplied, or incompatible with fluids or components not manufactured by SHURflo. SHURflo will not warrant any product which is physically damaged or modified outside the SHURflo factory. All juice concentrate must be flushed/sanitized when a V.R.V. is removed from service.
All SHURflo product should be returned to the authorized distributor where they were purchased. SHURflo's obligation under this warranty policy is limited to the repair or replacement. Products found not defective (under the terms of this limited warranty) are subject to charges to be paid by the returnee for the testing and packaging of "tested good" units.
This warranty is only a representation of the complete Beverage Limited Warranty outlined by Service Bulletin # 1049.
