Shure Phonograph VN15E User Guide

The

Model VN 15E Stylus (stylus grip

color - black)

has

a Bi-Radial Elliptical diamond t i p and is

used in the V-15

Type

11 Stereo Dynetic Cartridge. The

major feature

o f

the VNI5E is its superior TRACKABILITY. Because of it, all records will sound better and, in fact, you will hear some recordings tracked for the first time without distortion. The V-15 Type I1 Cartridge with VNI5E Stylus has the following SPECIFICATIONS-

Trackability at stylus force of 3/4 gram (in Shure-SME Arm]:

400 Hz(cps) - 18 cm/sec

1,000 Hz(cps) - 26 cm/sec

5,000 Hz(cps) -26 cm/sec

10,000 Hz(cps) - 18 cm/sec

Frequency Response: 20 t o 25,000 Hz

Output Voltage: 3.5 mv per channel a t 1,000 Hz at

5

cm/sec

Channel Balance:

Output from each channel within 2 d b

Channel Separation: Over 25

d b at 1,000 Hz

Over 17 d b from 500 to

10,000 Hz

Tracking Force: 3/4 to 1% grams

The V N I5E Bi-Radial

Elliptical Stylus is constructed with

a broad

frontal

plane

radius

of

18 microns

(.0007

inch),

while the

side

contact

radii

are

5 microns

(.0002

inch),

and the t i p is 25 microns (.001 inch) wide between record contact points.

NOTE: The Shure Bi-Radial Elliptical Stylus produces several advantages:

I. It drastically

reduces tracing distortion

because

the

elliptical shape more closely follows

the

groove

made by the wedge-shaped cutting

stylus.

The

points o f tangency remain

parallel

t o

the

record

groove t o a

markedly

greater extent

than those

of

the

ordinary spherical/conical

stylus.

2. It

is

possible

t o play

all

monophonic

LP

records

with perfectionist reproduction quality, as well as

stereo

records, due t o

the

larger distance

between

the

points o f

contact

of the stylus

of

25

microns

(.0010

inch).

r,cc\&t.

3. "Bottoming" in the record groove is eliminated along

with its disturbing crackling noise

o f

grit

and static

dust that is normally in the bottom o f the record

groove. This is accomplished due

t o

the

configura-

tion o f

this stylus.

The stylus

assembly,

when installed

in

the cartridge,

is practically

immune

t o damage

during

normal usage.

However,

care should

be taken

t o

avoid

bending

o r

distorting the stylus assembly when

it

is installed

o r

removed.
