Model A24QG

User Guide

The Shure Model A24QG is an accessory conversion
kit for use with the Shure AMS24 Gooseneck Micro­phone. When properly installed, it permits the AMS24
to be used as an easily disconnected XLR connector
mount instead of the permanently installed threaded
flange mount supplied with the AMS24.

The A24QG is designed to mate with most available
3-pin female XLR receptacles (Switchcraft B3F, C3F,
D3F, E3F, Y3F Series, etc.). The female receptacle is
not furnished with this kit.

The AMS24QG consists of a metal case with a male

XLR connector in one end and an internal

thread in the other. A rubber compression ring is
supplied to maintain a snug fit between the A24QG
XLR connector and the mating female XLR connector.
The A24QG is finished in black enamel to match the
AMS24.

INSTALLATION
NOTE: Installation should be made by qualified ser-

vice personnel.)

1. Cut the AMS24 cable so that approximately 76

mm (3 in.) extends beyond the threaded adapter
(see Figure 1). Strip and tin the new cable ends.

2. Insert the cable in the A24QG case (tapered end).
Apply LOCTITE or similar metal thread adhesive
to the AMS24 gooseneck threaded collar and
screw the collar to the threaded end of the A24QG
case.

3. Carefully solder the cable leads to the XLR con­nector solder terminals as follows: red to pin 2,
black to pin 3, shield to pin 1.

4. Rotate the soldered plug element about six turns
and insert it in the A24QG case, aligning the hole
in the case with the plug element setscrew.

5. Using a small screwdriver, turn the setscrew
clockwise to secure the connector to the case.

6. Insert the supplied compression ring into the case
opening, seating it against the plug element.
NOTE: When connected to a Neutrik cable con­nector, the supplied compression ring should

not

be used.

7. The AMS24–A24QG is now ready to be con­nected to a female XLR connector for operation.
