This manual describes the operating precautions and basic operations relating to the CHC-S9045 digital photo printer. In the remainder of this manual, the digital photo printer is called the machine. Before operating the machine, read this manual and thoroughly understand the proper methods of installing and operating the machine.
Always keep this manual near the machine so that the
persons who operate it can periodically read. If this manual is lost or damaged, immediately reorder a
new copy from your product dealer.
If the ownership of the machine is to be transferred to a
third party, be sure to accompany this manual with the machine.

This operating manual is intended for the user to operate the machine safely. Before operating the machine, read this operating manual and the manual accompanying the machine and thoroughly understand its proper installing and operating methods.
This operating manual includes the precautions for avoiding the possible
hazards. For a better understanding of the machine's safety, messages on safety are inserted as follows for each precautionary item:
WARNING: This message with a symbol implies that if the machine is
mis-handled, the user may die or get seriously injured.
CAUTION: This message with a symbol implies that if the machine is mis-
handled, the user may get injured and/or only physical damage may occur.
NOTICE: This message denotes the possible causes of trouble and/or the
precautions/directions relating to the operating environment.
It is impossible for the manufacturer to predict all potential hazards
associated with the installation/operation of the machine under all environments. For this reason, safety is not fully covered by this operating manual, other manuals, or the warning and caution messages inscribed on the machine. Operating Environment and Installation
Strictly observe the following precautions to ensure safe use of this color printer:
CAUTION: Do not allow children to touch the machine or to tamper with
any cables. Failure to observe this precaution could result in injury and/or electrical shock.
CAUTION: Keep the machine free from moisture, dirt, and dust. Failure
to observe this precaution could result in fire, electrical shock, and/or machine trouble. Do not place the machine in, for example, a sea bathing area, a bathroom, a hot spring, or a swimming pool, on a road, or at other humid, dusty, and/or

table or at other unstable locations. Failure to observe this precaution may result in the machine dropping or falling down and injuring persons.

ventilation holes are blocked, fire may arise from the

Handling the Printer
When handling this color printer, strictly observe the following precautions:
WARNING: Remove the printer from the package, and place it on a flat table
or desk.
WARNING: When carrying this product, be absolutely certain to securely
hold the grips on both sides of the product. It is dangerous to hold other sections.
WARNING: For example, when carrying this product on a slippery floor
surface, be extra careful not to slip.
WARNING: If this product is inadvertently dropped or damaged, first turn
off the power switch of the printer and then disconnect the power cable from the power outlet. After this, please contact your product dealer or Shinko Electric's product maintenance service or sales representative. Continued use of the dropped or damaged product may result in fire and/or electrical shock.
NOTICE: To use this printer, an interface cable that matches your computer is
required.

however, is not abnormal. Since the thermal head becomes very hot, be sure to keep hands away from this section.

hand. The ingress of sand or other hard foreign matter may also damage the thermal head, so do not handle under the situation that such can happen.

Handling the Consumable Parts/Materials and Printed Photos
Observe the following precautions when handling ink ribbons, print paper, and printed photos:
NOTICE: When handling print paper
Use the manufacturer-specified paper.
Store the paper in a horizontal position.
Avoid exposure to moisture, and store paper horizontally in a place free
from direct sunlight.
[Temperature: 30 deg C (maximum), Humidity: 60% RH (maximum)]
Keep hands away from the printing surface of the print paper.
If fingerprints stick, picture quality may deteriorate.
NOTICE: When handling print paper
Store the paper in a place not exposed to direct sunlight.
Store printed surfaces so that they are always kept free from hands and
the following chemicals: Benzene, thinner, alcohol, and other organic solvents
Printed surfaces may get discolored if these chemicals come into contact
with the printed surfaces.
NOTICE: When handling ink ribbons
Use the manufacturer-specified ink ribbons.
Store the ink ribbons in a cool place free from direct sunlight.

CAUTION: Dispose of all used ink ribbons as industrial waste.

Procedure from Unpacking to Setup
This section lays down the procedure from unpacking this product to setting it
up for operation.
If you have not yet read Section 1, FOR SAFE MACHINE USAGE, first return
to Section 1 and read it before going into this section (Section 2).
Unpack and set up this product using the following procedure:
Unpack this product and remove the printer and its accessories.
1.
Confirm the names and functions of the printer components.
2.
Set an ink ribbon in the ribbon cassette.
3.
After this, set the ribbon cassette in the printer.
Adjust the flange to the paper size.
4.
Set paper in the paper flange assembly. After this, set the paper flange assembly in the printer and then set the ink ribbon identification card.
Connect the power cable.
5.
6.Connect the USB cable.
7.Turn on the power switch.

Setting Print Paper and the Ink Ribbon Identification Card

Connecting the Power Cable
Connect the power cable, subject to the precautions listed below.
Connect the accompanying power cable to the power connector at the rear left of the printer.
WARNING: Before connecting the power cable, make sure that the power
switch is turned off.
WARNING: Always use only the specified power cable or the power cable
accompanying this product. If the product is used with its grounding pin (third pin) not connected and current leakage occurs, fire or electrical shock is most likely to result. The use of the product under such a status could also cause signal-receiving interference to a radio, a television receiver, and other similar electric appliances. If the proper grounding connection is not possible, please consult with your product dealer or Shinko Electric's product maintenance service or sales representative.
WARNING: Connect the power plug properly.
Improper connection may lead to fire or trouble.

power outlet and then make sure that all cables connected to external units are also disconnected. Failure to perform these operations may result in fire and/or electrical shock due to cord damage. Also, persons may overturn and get injured if they stumble over the power cord.

WARNING: If this product is not to be used for a long period, be sure to
disconnect the power cord from the power outlet to ensure safety.
WARNING: Avoid connecting the power cord to any power outlet being used
for other purposes. Power outlet sharing could incite fire or electrical shock.
WARNING: Do not handle the power cord with wet hands. Otherwise,
electrical shock may result.
WARNING: Do not damage or process the power cord.
In addition, do not place a heavy object on the cord, yank it, or use force to bend it. These acts could cause fire or electrical shock.

Connecting the USB Cable
Connect the USB cable between your personal computer and the USB connector at the rear left of the printer.
Connect the USB cable properly.
NOTICE: Before disconnecting the USB cable from the printer, make sure that the
printer is in a ready status for printing. Disconnection of the USB cable during printing may result in a printing failure.

The power switch is located at the rear left of the printer. A press of the
"|" section turns power on, and a press of the "o" section turns power off.

To clean the cover of the printer, wipe directly with a soft cloth.

In Case of the Red LEDs Lighting
The appropriate red LEDs on the operations panel light (or blink) to indicate that some trouble has occurred. The types of trouble and the respective corrective actions are listed in the
table below.
In this table, the "on", "off", and blinking states of the LED are denoted as ●,
, and *, respectively.

The printer has clogged with paper.
The printer has run short of paper or is not loaded with paper. The wrong type of ink ribbon is set.
The printer has run short of ink ribbon or an ink ribbon is not set. The movable section or control circuit board of the printer is abnormal.
The ribbon cassette cover or the paper storage unit is open. The wrong type of ink ribbon identification card is inserted.
The ink ribbon identification card has come short of available space. Or the ink ribbon identification card itself is not inserted.
Remove the clogging paper. If the printer clogs frequently, please consult with your Shinko Electric product service representative. In the former case, add paper. In the latter case, load the printer with paper. Confirm the type of ink ribbon and then set the correct type of ink ribbon. Set an ink ribbon.
Repairing is likely to be required. Please contact your Shinko Electric product service representative. lose the ribbon cassette cover or the paper storage unit.
Confirm the inscription on the surface of the ink ribbon identification card and then insert the correct card. Insert the ink ribbon identification card. If the ink ribbon identification card has come short of available space, also replace the ink ribbon and the paper.

Operations
In Case of a Power Interruption during Printing
If power is interrupted during printing, the thermal head will remain pressed against the rubber platen roller and if this state is maintained for a long time, the platen roller may deform. Troubleshoot using the following procedure to prevent roller deformation:
Turn off the power switch.

front bottom of the printer by pulling the storage unit out to the front while lifting the lever at the bottom of the unit.

Otherwise, the thermal head will come into contact with the movable section of the printer and may thus get damaged. Before opening the ribbon cassette cover, be sure to turn power back on and then make sure that the PAPER LED is on.

In Case of a Paper-Loading Failure
If a small deal of paper is set, it may not be loaded into the printer properly. In this case, troubleshoot using the following procedure:
Open the paper storage unit at the

front bottom of the printer by pulling the storage unit out to the front while lifting the lever at the bottom of the unit.
Cut off the leading end of the paper

In case, the Ink ribbon has been torn
1. Open the ribbon cassette cover and, remove the Ink ribbon cassette from the printer.

2. Cut the edge of the Ink ribbon at the
geared side (gray color) by scissors.
3. Cut the edge of the Ink ribbon at the supply side with scissors.

4. Stick the Ink ribbon at the supply side to the
geared side ribbon by the tape.
Notice: Make sure to stick the Ink ribbon
straightly without any rumple. If not, it can be the cause of the problem during printing. Stick the Ink ribbon at the supply side

5. Turn the Ink ribbon at geared bobbin (gray)
to wind up the stuck part of Ink ribbon.
6. Turn both the geared side (gray) and the
supply side (white) at the same timing to check that the stuck part will not be torn again.

7. Holding the knob of the ink ribbon cassette,
set the cassette into the printer properly with the supply side of the ink ribbon at the front side.
8. Close the ribbon cassette cover by holding the center top edge of the cover.
