External Power: All hand-held instruments from our company support external power. Power requirements: DC 13.8V/1.2A. Laser Radiation: To avoid serious eye injury, never look directly into the optic outputs of fiber optic network equipment, test equipment, patch cords, or test jumpers.
Always avoid looking directly into the optic output port, when the instrument is
working.
Always replace protective dust caps on the detector port when the instrument is not
being used.
Always avoid looking directly at the unconnected end of optic fiber in testing and
make the unconnected end pointing at a non-reflective object, if possible.

3.3 Maintenance of Batteries
Battery for ShinewayTech series optical talk sets is rechargeable NiMH battery. All the NiMH batteries have been correctly installed and gone thorough precise debugging. Please do not open the instrument to replace batteries at discretion.
Cautions during Operation:
The following may bring auto power off of the instrument:
—— The instrument will be auto power off when there is insufficient power during operation and low
power indicator light turns red.
—— If unused for a long time and cause insufficient power, the instrument will be immediately shut off
several seconds after powering on so as to protect the batteries in case of excessive discharging.
In both cases, the inside batteries should be recharged immediately through adapter.
Cautions in Recharge:
—— Quick charge is needed first and then switch to trickle charge after the voltage reaches a predefined
figure. Quick charge temperature is +10~+40, and trickle charge temperature is 0~+45℃, suitable for indoors. Battery will not be full or be damaged if the charging temperature is beyond the above range, which may shorten batter life.
—— 4 hours for quick charge —— Do not charge for over 8 hours.
3.4 Cleaning of Interfaces
In order to keep the accuracy of the instrument, proper cleaning should be performed before conducting any test procedures. A lint-free cloth and reagent-grade isopropyl alcohol may be used to clean the interfaces.
If the interfaces are unclean, it may cause performance degradation as follows:
Failure in communication ; Degradation in transmitted voice quality; A decrease in dynamic range.

4. Specific Functions and Operations
4.1 Functions
Besides the basic function of voice communication, OTS-20 series optical talk sets also provide pager function, stabilized laser source and identification of optical fiber by transmitting 2 KHz modulation frequency. Detailed introductions are as follows: Voice Communication: For easy use of operators and fast establishment of voice communication, when a pair of optical talk sets are connected with the chosen optical fiber, the sets will be prompt for use after a short reminding tone when power on. The sets will now send signals to each other. When Ring/Talk indicator light turns red, both sets should receive response signals. When Ring/Talk indicator light turns red and rings at the same time, press [Answer] key to stop the ring and start voice communication. During the process, press [ ] key or the earphone knob to adjust the volume. During the course of voice communication, sometimes blackout of the optical route may happen (for example, the tested optical fiber was bent to vertical). In this case, if the optical route resumes in ten seconds, the communication will just carry on. If the optical route does not resume within ten seconds, the optical talk sets will renew connection.. Pager: Under the state of communication, if one party takes his earphone off for reasons like doing other work or taking a rest, the other party can power off his sets and power on in ten seconds, which can in turn trigger the other party’s set ringing. Identification of laser source and optical fiber: Press [CW] or [2KHz] at anytime, voice communication will be paused and the laser source function will be activated, the set will send out continuous wave or 2KHz modulation frequency.. Under the state of laser source CW, Continue Wave/2KHz indicator light is red, while under the state of 2KHz, Continue Wave/2KHz indicator light is green. Press [CW] or [2KHz] once more to exit the function of laser source and back to standby state for communication. During construction of optical fiber, together with Optical Clip-On Coupler, Optical talk sets can be used for testing communication with bare optical fiber. This will avoid the trouble of welding the tie-ins. For details, please refer to Typical Application.

[2KHz] Press it once, the instrument will be switched to laser source state, and the output is 2KHz modulation
frequency with indicator light green; Press it again to turn off 2KHz modulation frequencies and back to standby state for communication..
[CW] Press it, the instrument will be switched to laser source state, and the output of the laser source is
continuous wave with the indicator light red. Press it again to back to standby state for communication.
[Answer] Press to answer other party’s call and stop the reminding ring.
