Inspect aluminum cans during the fabrication and label adhesion process

Nidec-SHIMPO Stroboscopes are used in many different industries and manufacturing processes due to their
ability to generate a stop-motion effect on high-speed moving operations. When timed with the product, the
frozen image phenomenon allows the technician to fully inspect and analyze the machinery and product quality
while the production process is in full motion. One recent application was with an aluminum can manufacturer.
This customer was looking for a durable, industrial-grade stroboscope to inspect their aluminum cans during
the high-speed motion of their production line. The ideal solution was the DT-311A stroboscope. The customer
had never utilized this type of instrument in the past for their quality control, only relying on inspection after
products came off the line. Their post-production inspection caught errors, but due to the high speed of their
operation, a large lot of rejections had to be thrown out. With the live, real-time inspection of the Shimpo stro­boscope, this reduced their rejection lot size substantially as they were able to adjust the process immediately
to make the proper corrections or stop the process entirely if the alterations were more severe. This inspection
device has become such a critical asset they have purchased several additional units for other production lines.
The company has also started using the DT-315A portable, battery-powered stroboscope to inspect shafts,
gears and bearings on their production equipment. The stroboscope inspection results from this undertaking
enabled them to create a predictive maintenance program, allowing them to determine when to schedule down­time versus having the machinery malfunction and shut the line down unexpectedly. Along with the reduction
in rejection rate, these instruments have increased quality and reduced downtime, creating a huge savings to
the company’s bottom line.
