This document outlines the interconnection, protocol, and commands available for
RS-232 control of the Sherbourn PT-7010A.
Protocol: 9600 baud, 8N1 format, no flow control
Cabling: The RS-232 connector is a standard female DB-9. For use with a typical
PC, a straight-through cable with a DB-9 male on one end and a DB-9 female on the
other is called for. That is, pin #1 on one end is connected to pin #1 on the other
end, pin #2 to pin #2, and so on. Radio Shack sells an appropriate cable as their
part number 26-117. Note that a ‘null modem’ cable will not work.
Internal Pin Configuration: The DB-9 connector on the Sherbourn unit has
‘hardwired’ handshaking, with pins 1, 4, and 6 tied together internally, and pins 7
and 8 tied together internally. Pin 2 is data from the Sherbourn to your controller.
Pin 3 is data from your controller to the Sherbourn. Pin 5 is ground/common. Pin 9 is
not connected.
The following is a list of supported serial commands.
Note that the data you send to the Sherbourn is what you see between the ‘’
quotes in the ‘Command Data’ column below. The ampersand “@” is part of
the string.
For example: To toggle power, for example, you would send an ampersand (‘@’)
followed by thee ones, or ‘@111’.
