2.General:A change that was carried out as a permanent measure in the shape of the waste toner
bearing 2 was reported in Technical Report No. SP-2218, but a claim from a portion of
the market was received to the effect that the information presented in the report
concerning the problems of the process and the change history was unclear. To
accommodate these claims, a detailed report of the content is hereby reported.
<Description>
The maintenance lamp was flashing even though the inside of the waste toner bottle
(P/G No. [14]-21) was not full of toner.
<Cause>
The temperature of the waste toner bottle of the SF-2116 series rises to around 60°C
during continuous copy operations. Furthermore, pressure is normally applied to the
waste toner bottle by the waste toner spring (P/G No. [14]-25). When a temperature of
around 60°C is continued for a long period of time, the dimensions of the waste toner
bottle gradually become smaller due to the pressure applied to the waste toner bottle by
the waste toner spring, and the size of the waste toner bottle can decrease by as much
as 2 mm. With the decrease in size of the waste toner bottle, the ribs of the drive gear
87T (P/G No. [14]-24) come in contact with the ribs of the waste toner bearing 2 (P/G
No. [14]-23), causing a waste toner full detection to take place.

Japanese domestic production: From 1996 mid-October production.
Chinese (SOCC) production:From 1996 mid-October production.
French (SMF) production:From 1996 mid-October production.
<Temporary Action 2>
The size correction sheets (Qty: 4) which were attached in Temporary Action 1 described
above have all been discontinued, and the addition of washers has been carried out to
the drum frame unit as described in the figure shown below.

∗ With the addition of the washers as described above, the same result has been
achieved as with Temporary Action 1. It is therefore not necessary to carry out
the addition of size correction sheets in machines in which the addition of the
washers described above has been carried out.
Action:
Japanese domestic production: From 1997 mid-March production.
Chinese (SOCC) production:No action has been carried out
(Temporary Action 1 is being continued.)
French (SMF) production:From 1997 mid-March production.
<Permanent Action>
The M3 flat washers (Qty: 2) and the M3 rose washer (Qty: 1) which were added in
Temporary Action 2 described above have been discontinued, and the total length of the
waste toner bearing 2 has been increased by 2 mm. In accordance with this action, a
change has been carried out in the color of the parts to help make it easier to distinguish
between the old and new units. The white color of the old parts has been changed to
black for the new parts.
Action:
Japanese domestic production: From the 1st lot of 1997 October production.
Chinese (SOCC) production:From the 1st lot of 1997 November production.
French (SMF) production:From the 1st lot of 1997 December production.
3.Field Action:When the problem described above occurred in machines produced before 1996
October, one of the three actions described above, Temporary Action 1, Temporary Action
2, or Permanent Action, was carried out. Furthermore, When replacing the waste toner
bearing 2 with a part that was produced in accordance with the Permanent Action (black)
in machines with either Temporary Action 1 or Temporary Action 2 carried out, all
temporary action parts should be removed from the machines.
