REGARDING PAPER JAMS WHICH OCCUR WHEN THE SPF
HINGE BREAKS AND THE SPF COMES OUT OF POSITION.
1.Model Name: SF-2214
SN-1430 (US version only)
2.General: The following changes are being made in response to breakages of the SPF hinge (left
side). (Because the load borne by the right side hinge is about half of that borne by the
left, breakages do not occur in the right hinge, but we will be improving it anyway.)
Also, when the SPF opens and closes repeatedly, the slider in the SPF hinge (L)
breaks, allowing the back, left side portion of the SPF to come out of position. As a
result, paper jams may occur during the output (feed-out) of paper. We will make
additional changes to prevent this.

Cam
For models already on the market, there will only be changes made to the SPF hinge
(L). There is no need to make changes to the SPF hinge (R).
3.Description: ( Regarding hinge breaks )
A rib will be added and the width of the case will be increased by 0.8 mm.
Old
The changes mentioned above result in 1.4 times the resistance in tensile tests, 3 times
the flexibility, and a doubling of resistance to blows.

(Regarding the SPF coming out of position)
The shape of the slider will be changed, and wear will be decreased. Furthermore, an
additional change has been made so that the correct part of the slider will always be in
contact with the cam during normal use, even if it has been worn down.

Shape change
The contact point will be changed to a pin.
(This will not be visible from the outside.)
This change is effective as of July, 1995 production’s first unit, but other changes were
also made previously.
*1 General:During production, as a result of
standard adjustments made (off-centering),
the SPF hinge sometimes came into
contact with the front face of the unit.
Base tray
Screws for the stopper
Under these conditions, the heads of the
screws for the stopper slid onto the SPF
base tray, and the hinge moved out of
position. T o prevent this problem, we have
SPF hinge
changed the shape of both the hinge and
the screws.

Action: Production in China (SOCC): From the first unit of May, 1995 production through
June, 1995 production only.
Production in France (SMF): From the middle of May, 1995 production through June,
1995 production only.
As a result of the changes detailed in *1, the following part codes have changed.
The part code changes Part code in *1 New part code
SPF hinge (L) MHNG-0178FCZ1 → → MHNG-0178FCZ3
SPF hinge (R) MHNG-0179FCZ1 → → MHNG-0179FCZ3

MHNG-0179FCZ2
This part will not be listed among the service parts.
At the current time, M4x12 screws are being used to hold the SPF hinge in place.
However, if that length of screw is used, the SPF may not remain in the correct position.
Therefore, the screws to be used when replacing the hinge have been changed to
M4x16 screws.
