Slide the OPEN lever to release the compartment door.
Insert a MiniDisc as shown.

When you record on a MiniDisc, check that the erase prevention tab is set to the "Recordable" position.

About the microphone
Any plug-in-power type microphones can be used. If the microphone is not a plug-in-power type, it may malfunction or be damaged.
Plug-in-power type microphone
There are different types of microphones. Power is automatically supplied to the plug-in-power type microphone when con­nected to the unit. Other types are battery-powered or self-powered.

Adjust the recording level so that the maximum sound vol­ume from the source makes the reading swing somewhere between -4 dB and 0 dB.
Make sure the hold function is deactivated before recording.
Hold down the button for 2 seconds or more. The display changes every time you press the button. (For details, refer to page 60 of the manual.)

When recording stops, "TOC" appears. Whilst "TOC" appears, the MiniDisc record­ed contents have not yet been updated.
To prevent the new recording from being lost, it is not possible to remove the Mini­Disc whilst "TOC" is displayed.

To update the recorded contents of the MiniDisc
Press the button whilst in the stop mode. The power turns off after recorded contents have been updated on the MiniDisc.
Refer to page 21 for details on TOC.

Recording from a radio cassette recorder or stereo system without audio output sockets (LINE OUT, AUX OUT, REC OUT, etc.)

Recording TV sound
Check the output terminal of your TV and connect to the unit as follows.

Digital and analogue recording
The differences are described below.
Digital recording
A digital signal from a CD or MiniDisc is recorded as it is on the original. Compared with analogue connection recording, a digital connection will ensure higher quality.

Sound from a stereo system or radio cassette recorder (analogue signals) can be recorded.

Adjust the recording level so that the maximum sound volume from the source makes the reading swing some­where between -4 dB and 0 dB.

Long time recording
Since this MD portable recorder adopts the 4 times long recording mode, you can record many tracks on one MD (supporting MDLP). Up to 320 minutes of recording is possible on one MD (of 80 minutes).
Group recording
You can record tracks by the group of artists or albums, etc. That MD can be played by selecting the group.
Radio cassette recorder
To the AUX socket
Recording monitor appears when adjusting the recording level.
<Connecting with a digital cable >
The recording monitor displays D.L. -10dB to D.L. +10dB.
If recording from a CD, set to "D.L. 0dB". Set to around "D.L. +8dB" if it is a CS tuner or other equipment.
< Connecting with an analogue cable >
The recording monitor displays LINE 0 to LINE 30.
If using a headphone socket of external equipment, set the volume on the equipment (avoid creaking noise) and then adjust the recording level on the unit.
< Connecting with a microphone >
The recording monitor displays MIC L 0 to MIC H 30. If the recording level is set too low, recorded sound may
not be audible.
MiniDisc recorded in a long-recording mode
Tracks recorded in 2 times long recording and 4 times long recording modes cannot be played with the unit that does not support these modes.
