TROUBLESHOOTING OF NOISE OF

TONER/DEVELOPER CARTRIDGE

1.Model name: JX-9400/9600 series, FO-48ND/DC, FO-34ND

2.Problem: There are possibilities that some of toner/dev. cartridges produced between October

1993 and December 1993 may make squeaking noises during operation. The noise is
so low that it could scarcely be heard in usual office environment. It may occur,
particularly when the printer/cartridge is cool in the morning or shortly after the
installation. However, the noise tends to diminish as the printer/cartridge warms up after
repeated printing. When receiving customer claims, please take the action described
here.

3.Cause: The noise is made due to the friction between the MG roller flange and the V ring on the
toner/dev. cartridge. The material of the MG roller flange was changed during October
1993 production, from sintered metal to aluminum. This is the reason for the friction
noise.

4.Solutions: Lubricate the area between the V ring and the MG roller flange with a very little
machining oil of the ordinary type.

Procedure (Also see the attached drawing.)

1. Prepare machining oil and a paper clip made of fine wire.

2. Stretch the clip as illustrated, and apply the oil to its edge (within 1mm from the top).

3. Lubricate the area between the V ring and the MG roller flange using the oiled clip.

Caution:Do not drop the oil on other places, particularly on the surface of the MG roller.

From December 1993 production (though not from the beginning), the material of the V
ring has been changed in order to eliminate the noise.

* Apply a very little machining oil to the edge of the

stretched paper clip (within 1mm from the top),
then, drop very little oil to the MG roller flange
surface to lubricate the V ring.

Note: Do not drop oil on places other than the

above mentioned area. Do not insert the clip
between the MG roller and the V ring.
