" The unit may get warm during or after charging. This
is normal.
" When c harging batter y for the first time or after a long
period of disuse, battery life may be shorter. Repeat
charge/discharge cycle 4 to 5 times to restore the full
capacity.
" After charging, unplug the AC adaptor and USB cable.
" Do not set the BATTERY switch to OFF whilst using
the unit, whilst charging or when the AC adaptor or
USB cable is connected. Malfunction may result.
" When the unit is not in use for extended periods, dis-
connect the AC adaptor.
! Built-in battery
" The built-in battery may discharge completely when
this product is left unused for long periods. Recharge
the battery before use.
" Charging t ime depends on the battery condition and
ambient temperature.
" At low temperatures, continuous playing time is short-
ened.
" Sharp shall not be liable for any damages resulting
from loss or alteration of audio data caused by malfunction, repairs, or complete discharge of the battery.

Using Windows Media Player, rip tracks from your favourite audio CDs to a PC. Ripped tracks are stored on PC
as audio data. You can enjoy music on the unit by transferring audio data from the PC.

! Folders
The "MUSIC" folder is created on the unit by default.
Transfer audio data to this folder for playback.
When using Windows Media Player 9 Series, select
the "MUSIC" folder to transfer audio data.
Note:
You can create subfolders if necessary (refer to the Windows Media Player Users Guide). Create them in the level indicated in "About folder tree".
When using Windows Media Player 10, subfolders
with an artist or album name are automatically created in the "MUSIC" folder.
Note:
To create subfolders with an artist or album name automatically, click to display properties and select "Create
folder hierarchy on device".

" This product suppor ts Windows Media Digital Rights
Management 9 Series. Using Windows Media Player 9
Series or 10, you can transfer licensed WMA files to
the unit for playback.
" Some WMA files may not be playable/transferable
onto this product due to their license agreements with
copyright holders.
" Some audio data may not be playable on this product.
File format of transferred audio data
" Depending on the setting of Windows Media Player,
audio data may be converted automatically for playback on portable devices.
" On Windows Media Player 10, you can change this
setting and transfer audio data without conversion. To
do so, click and selec t "Quality" to uncheck "Convert
files as required by this device (recommended)".
" If you transfer WAV files without conversion, it may
take more time to transfer, and use more hard disk
space on the unit.

Disconnecting the unit
Make sure to exit Windows Media Player before disconnecting the USB cable.

Refreshing audio data
Lists for artists, albums and genres are automatically created by reading information included in the audio data
transferred from the PC (auto listing function).
After transferring audio data, perform "Refresh List" to
make efficient use of the auto listing function.
" Perform "Refresh List" to keep the status of the unit up
to date after transferring audio data from a PC to the
unit using Windows Media Player, or after deleting
audio data on the unit.
" After "Refresh List" is performed, the latest information
appears for playback from Playlists/Artists/Albums/
Genres/Titles (see pages 23, 24, 28).
" If "Refresh List" is not performed after the operation,
transferred audio data may not appear, or deleted
audio data may appear.

Format:
Format the hard disk. All data on the hard disk will be
deleted.
"Complete" appears after formatting.
Caution:
" Back up important data before formatting the hard
disk.
" Once data on the unit is deleted, it cannot be restored.
Double-check before deleting it.
" When the unit is connected to a PC with the USB

Troubleshooting
Many potential "problems" can be resolved by the owner wit hout calling a service tech nician. If something seems to be
wrong with this product, check the following before calling
your autho r ised SHARP dea l er or service c e ntre.
The unit does not turn on.
" Is the AC adaptor disconne cted?
" Is the built-in batte ry exhausted?
" Is the unit in the hold mode?
" Has condensation formed inside the unit?
" Is the unit being influenc ed by mec hanic al sho ck or by
static electricity?
" Is the BATTERY swi tch set to OFF?
" Did you long press the MENU or ENTER button?
No sound is heard from the earphones.
" Is the volume set too low?
" Are the earphones correctly plugged in?
When the operation buttons are pressed, the unit does
not respond.
" Is there playable audio data on the unit?

! Moisture condensation
When the unit has condensation inside, the disk signals
cannot be read, and the unit may not function properly.
In the following cases, condensation may form inside the
unit.
" Shortly after turning on a heater .
" When the unit is placed in a room where there is
excessive steam or moisture.
" When the unit is moved from a cool place to a warm
place.
To remove condensation:
Leave the unit for appr oximately 1 hour. The condensation should evaporate and unit will work properly.

Maintenance
! Cleaning
When the unit becomes dirty
Clean it with a soft cloth. When the unit is excessively
dirty, use a soft cloth dampened in water (exter nal surfaces only).
Clean the plugs and the connecting sockets.
If the plugs or sockets are dirty, noise may be heard.
Cleaning will prevent noise.
Caution:
" Do not use chemicals for cleaning (petrol, paint thin-
ner, etc.). It may damage the cabinet finish.
" Do not apply oil to the inside of the unit. It may cause
malfunctions.
