Safety Precautions
To prevent re or electri­cal shock, do not use the TV set in an excessively damp place.
Do not cover the venti­lation holes on the back of the TV set, this can cause re or other seri­ous problems. Leave an adequate open space behind the TV set for
good ventilation. Do not place the TV set close to an open window as it could get wet from rain.
Position the TV set out of direct sunlight and away from heat, as the high temperatures can damage the cabinet, CRT, or other elec­tronic parts
Never insert or drop any metallic or inam­mable objects into the ventilation holes of the TV set, this can cause re, electrical shock, or electrical failure. Do not place
a ower vase or any­thing else containing liquid on the TV set, as liquid spilt on the TV set can cause serious problems.
Never remove the back of the cabinet, as there is a high voltage inside the TV set.

Do not place this television equipment on an unstable cart, stand or table. The televi­sion equipment may fall, causing serious injury to a child or an adult and serious damage to the equipment. Use only with a cart or stand recommended by the manu­facturer, or sold with the television equipment.
Television equipment and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the equipment and cart combina­tion to overturn.
Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturers instructions. Use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturer.

Size - AA batteries
• To enjoy a clearer picture, we recommend that you use an outdoor antenna. The following is a brief explanation of the types of antenna connections.
(1) 75-OHM COAXIAL CABLE :
Connect the cable from the antenna to a standard DIN45325 plug (IEC 169-2) and plug directly into the antenna socket on the rear of the TV set.
(2) 300-OHM RIBBON CABLE :
Connect the cable from the antenna to a balun (Balanced Transformer) and plug directly into the antenna socket on the rear of the TV set.
Note : Balun not supplied.
Note : Remove the power cord from the electrical outlet before connecting the antenna to the rear of the TV set.
• After unpacking, check to make sure that the following accessories are included.

Inserting Batteries
n Installing dry batteries in the remote control
When using the TV set for the rst time, install the supplied batteries in the remote control.
Pull up
1 With your thumb nail, pull up the slit as indicated by the
arrow to remove the back cover.
2 Insert two batteries (size “AA”). Be sure to match the
battery
terminals with the
marks inside the
compartment.
3 Put back the battery cover.
Note :
• Remove batteries if weak or if the unit is not in use for long periods.
• Do not mix old and new batteries.
• In correct installation of the batteries may damage the remote control.

These are also used to make adjustments in PRESET mode.
Head phone Jack
• The volume of the headphones can be adjusted from the TV or with the remote control. When the head phone jack is unplugged, the volume of the TV returns to the original setting.
• Select an appropriate volume so as not to injure your hearing.
• To avoid injuring your hearing, do not put on the headphones on your ears before plugging in the head phone to the head phone jack and before the power is turned on.
• Take out the headphones from your ears before unplugging the headphones from the head phone jack and before the power is turned off.
• The proper impedance for the headphones is 32 ohms.
• Remove the head phone plug from the jack when not using the headphones.
• The volume level of TV speakers and the headphones can be set independently.
• The volume level for the headphones is shown by the number of yellow blocks.

Turning on the power
1 Press the POWER ( ) switch on the
TV set to turn the TV set on. The POWER indicator lights in red.
2 Press the STANDBY/ON ( ) button on
the remote control or either the CHAN­NEL UP or DOWN buttons on the TV set.
The POWER indicator changes from red to green and a picture appears on the screen.
NOTE :
• Due to factory setting, when the rst time you press the POWER ( ) switch on the TV set, a picture appears and the POWER indicator lights up in green.
• The STANDBY/ON ( ) button on the remote control lets you change between ON and Standby mode when the main power is ON.
• If you will not be at home for a considerable length of time, as a safety precaution, turn off the main power by pressing the POWER ( ) switch on the TV set and unplug the cord from the outlet.

Changing the channels
Press the VOLUME UP ( ) or DOWN ( ) buttons to adjust the volume.
The number of oval blocks “ ” indicates the volume level.
The display disappears approximately three seconds after the volume adjustment has been completed.

Changing channels using the CHANNEL SELECT buttons on the remote control
• To handle the increasing number of channels available, this TV set allows you to select up to 100 positions (Channel 0 to 99). One-digit and two-digit methods of selection can be used. Follow the procedure shown below to select channels.

To select a one-digit channel (e.g. Channel
5) : (1) Press the 5 button. (2) If “5-” is indicated and the picture does
not change, press the button to switch over to the 1-digit select mode and press the 5 button again.
To select a two-digit channel (e.g. Channel
15) : (1) Press the button to set the two-digit
select mode. (2) Press the 1 button. (3) Press the 5 button.
NOTE :
• In this mode entering a 0 rst will enable selection of
single digit channels e.g. 07
• Complete this procedure within 6 seconds, otherwise
the selection will not be made.

Display can be set to ENGLISH, CHI­NESE, FRENCH, RUSSIAN, MALAY or ARABIC.
n Setting the On-screen Display lan-
guage
1 Press the PRESET/MENU button on
the TV set for more than two seconds. The LANGUAGE select mode screen appears.
2 Press the CHANNEL UP (

) buttons to select the lan­guage you wish to display. The selected language will be highlighted in yellow.

Tuning in one or more channels (e.g. tuning the TV to a VCR, tuning in an additional TV station.) NOTE : This TV is already tuned into 2, 7, 9, 10 and 28.

TV set for more than two seconds. The LANGUAGE select mode appears.
2 Press the PRESET/MENU button two
more times to display the MANUAL mode screen.
3 Select the desired channel position or
preset number using the CHANNEL UP (

4 Press the VOLUME UP ( ) or DOWN
( ) buttons on the TV set to start searching for the TV station you want to preset. Search is initiated and when a TV signal is received during the search, the search stops. Repeat this process until the desired channel is found.
5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 above to preset
the channel positions for other broad­casts.
6 Press the PRESET/MENU button until
the normal screen appears.

• The PRESET mode changes in the following order by pressing the PRESET/MENU button on the TV set.

Full Auto Channel Preset (AUTO)
Automatically tunes in and presets all receivable TV stations, using consecutive channels numbers (e.g. 2, 7, 9, 10 will be stored as 1, 2, 3, 4).

NOTE :
• AUTO PRESET stores all receivable channels including those which may be very weak and not clearly visible. To preset only those channels designated for local viewing region, use MANUAL PRESET. (See page 8.)
• The preset mode changes in the following order by pressing the PRESET/MENU button on the TV set.
1 Press the PRESET/MENU button on
the TV set for more than two seconds. The LANGUAGE select mode screen appears.
2 Press the PRESET/MENU button again
to display the AUTO mode screen.
3 Press the VOLUME DOWN ( ) button
on the TV set. All the TV stations in your area that can be received by the TV set are automatically preset between chan­nels 1 to 99. (This process may take sev­eral minutes to complete.)
4 The screen shows whatever is on chan-
nel 1 when full auto channel preset is nished.

When skip is set to ON, that channel can no
longer be selected with the CHANNEL UP (

) buttons - only with the numeric buttons on the remote con­trol. The mode changes in the following order.

Channel numbers with a red dot on the left are
set to SKIP. To turn off SKIP, press the CHAN- NEL SELECT buttons to select the desired channel, then set the SKIP mode on the CH­SETTING menu to “OFF”.
FINE :
The frequency changes to allow ne tuning
6 Press the MENU button until the normal
screen appears.
NOTE :
• Switching COLOUR system. Set the system to AUTO for normal TV reception. The AUTO mode automatically detects the receiving signal
system and changes the reception system of the TV set. When the picture is not stable, switching to an appropriate system may improve the picture quality.
NOTE :
• When you select the channel position AV1, AV2 or AV3, the CH-SETTING menu changes as shown on the right, and the colour mode changes in the following order.

• When the NORMAL button is pressed while the PICTURE menu is displayed, the setting for the selected item is reset to the standard (factory setting) position.

Noise might be generated on images when playing deteriorated video tapes or when receiving broadcasts with relative weak signals. In these cases, set PICTURE NR to “ON” to reduce the noise. However, when receiving good images without noise, you can get better image quality by turning OFF this feature.

The SURROUND can be set to “ONI“,
“ONII“, or “OFF”.
ONI : Setting to this mode during stereo
reception produces a spacious sound making the most of the speakers’ per­formance. See note below. ONII : Setting this mode during mon­aural signal reception makes monaural sound like stereophonic sound.
OFF : Produces normal sound.
NOTE :
• When the NORMAL button is pressed while the PICTURE menu is displayed, the setting for the selected item is reset to the standard (factory setting) position.
• When the NORMAL button is pressed while the MENU screen is displayed and “SOUND” is selected, all the settings for SOUND items are reset to the standard (factory setting) position.

Feature Adjustment
Blue Back :
Automatically turns the screen blue after ve seconds if the broadcast signal is not received (e.g. when a TV station goes off the air. After 15 minutes of non-reception, the TV set enters standby mode.)

Tuning TV set to VCR
SHARP VCR’s have their output set to channel 37 which is 590.25mhz. (the output frequency can vary but will be close
to 590 mhz). To tune into the video recorder output connect as shown in manual on page 23 (Examples of connections
2) . Remove the aerial plug from the TV set and plug it into the Antenna in socket on the VCR. Connect the RF cable supplied with the VCR from the RF out socket on the VCR to the aerial socket on the TV set.
1 Turn on the VCR (most VCR’s have a test output to assist in tuning the set in, see VCR manual for instructions). If
there is no test signal play a pre-recorded tape.
2 See page 8 for instructions on manual tuning. Press and hold the PRESET button for more than 2 seconds. Press
the PRESET button to go to the manual mode.
3 Select a channel that you want the VCR to playback on, for best results use 0, by pressing the CHANNEL UP
or DOWN BUTTON.
4 Press the VOLUME UP button if the frequency display is less than 590 mhz or the VOLUME DOWN button if
the frequency display is greater than 591 mhz. When tuning, the band indicator turns red. The tuning may stop, (the band indicator turns green) on a off air broadcast, so press the VOLUME UP or DOWN button until the frequency display indicates approximately 590mhz. the tuning will stop automatically when it detects the signal from the VCR.
5 Once the set is tuned in, press the PRESET button to return to normal mode. Turn off the test mode on the VCR. To
watch a video select channel 0 or the channel selected in step 3. Press play on the video.
NOTE :
For a simple method of connecting the VCR to the TV set use the AV1 terminals (Examples of connections 2) other equipment can be connected to the AV2 terminals, see page 23 for details. For a Stereo VCR, 3 leads are required, 1 video lead RCA to RCA and 2 audio leads RCA to RCA. For a Mono VCR, 2 leads are required, 1 video lead RCA to RCA and 1 audio lead RCA to RCA (RCA refers to the type of plug required to connect a Sharp VCR to this set. See your video manual for other brands). To watch a video, select AV1 by pressing the TV/VIDEO button. Press play on the VCR.

AV mode
Flashback :
Switches back to the channel you were watching just before the current channel.
Sound Mute :
Silences the sound
NOTE :
• During mute, the volume can be adjusted to a lower level. When mute is turned off, the sound will be heard at this volume.
• Mute will be cancelled if the VOLUME UP ( ) button is pressed.
Each time you press the AV MODE button, the mode switches between STANDARD, DYNAMIC and SOFT in that order.
STANDARD : Normal mode DYNAMIC : Dynamic mode SOFT : Soft mode
Press the FLASHBACK ( ) button. The channel previously viewed returns to the screen.
Example:
If after switching from channel 5 to channel 7 the FLASHBACK ( ) button is pressed, the channel will change to channel 5. Press the FLASHBACK ( ) button again to return to channel 7.
1 Press the SOUND MUTE ( ) button. The
sound mute symbol ( ) appears on the screen and the sound is silenced.

Video Equipment Connections
Enjoy the stunning visuals of a DVD or VCR by connecting them to this TV set through its audio/video in terminals.
NOTE :
• When a VCR is connected via the Antenna in, tune the TV to the VCR using preset channel 0.
• With this TV set, you can play back stereo-recorded video cassettes in stereo via the audio/video terminals.
• For monaural input, connect the external source to the audio in left terminal (AUDIO IN L (MONO)) to hear the same sound from both speakers. If monaural equipment is connected to the audio in right terminal (AUDIO IN R), you will hear sound from only one of the speakers.
