Maintenance and repair of this receiver should be done by qualified service personnel only.

SERVICING OF HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM AND PICTURE TUBE

When servicing the high voltage system, remove static charge from it by connecting a 10 k ohm Resistor in series with an insulated wire (such as a test probe) between picture tube dag and 2nd anode lead. (AC line cord should be disconnected from AC outlet.)

  • 1. Picture tube in this receiver employs integral implosion protection.
  • 2. Replace with tube of the same type number for continued safety.
  • 3. Do not lift picture tube by the neck.
  • 4. Handle the picture tube only when wearing shatterproof goggles and after discharging the high voltage completely.

X-RAY

This receiver is designed so that any X-Ray radiation is kept to an absolute minimum. Since certain malfunctions or servicing may produce potentially hazardous radiation with prolonged exposure at close range, the following precautions should be observed:

  • 1. When repairing the circuit, be sure not to increase the high voltage to more than 33.0 kV, (at beam 0 µA) for the set.
  • 2. To keep the set in a normal operation, be sure to make it function on 29.0 kV ± 1.5 kV (at beam 1400 µA) in the case of the set. The set has been factory Adjusted to the above-mentioned high voltage.

If there is a possibility that the high voltage fluctuates as a result of the repairs, never forget to check for such high voltage after the work.

3. Do not substitute a picture tube with unauthorized types and/or brands which may cause excess X-ray radiation.

BEFORE RETURNING THE RECEIVER

Before returning the receiver to the user, perform the following safety checks.

  • 1. Inspect all lead dress to make certain that leads are not pinched or that hardware is not lodged between the chassis and other metal parts in the receiver.
  • 2. Inspect all protective devices such as non-metallic control knobs, insulating fishpapers, cabinet backs, adjustment and compartment covers or shields, isolation resistor-capacity networks, mechanical insulators etc.

ADJUSTMENT PRECAUTIONS

This model's setting are adjusted in two different ways: through the I2C bus control and in the conventional analog manner. The adjustments via the I2C bus control include preset-only items and variable data.

1. Calling the service mode by the microprocessor

  • Set the switch S1006 to the service mode position, and the microprocessor is put in the service mode (Adjustment through the I2C bus control).
  • (2) Press the CHDOWN / CH UP key on the remote controller to get ready to select the modes one by one.
  • (3) Using the VOLUME UP / VOLUME DOWN key on the remote controller, the data can be modified
  • (4) Set the switch S1006 to the normal mode (OFF) position, and the microprocessor is put out of the service mode.

2. Factory presettings

  • (1) Set the switch S1006 to the service mode position and turn on the main power switch.
  • (i) Dot the officer of the officer have position and tan officer of the officer officer. Initial values are automatically preset only when a new E2PROM is used (judgment with the first 4 bytes). (2) The initial data are preset as listed in SERVICE MODE.
Note :

Once the chassis has been put together and ready to be POWER ON for the FIRST TIME, make sure to set the switch S1006 to the service mode position first and then turn on the main power switch (see the step 2.-(1) above). Turning on the power without initializing the E2PROM may cause a flow of excess beams.

After the initial data are preset and all the require data modification have been done, make sure the switch S1006 is set to normal mode (OFF) position.

SERVICE MODE:

  • When the SERVICE IN (pin (31)) terminal gets to the "H" level for 3 consecutive times, the service mode is called up. Getting to the "L" level for 3 consecutive times, the service mode is cleared. (At the clearing of the service mode, the E2PROM content are read once and an initialization is made.)
  • 2) Once in the service mode, the E2PROM 's initialization judgement bite is read 3 consecutive times before the IC gets initialized. If all the data are not identified all the 3 times, the E2PROM gets initialized.

Coil adjustment
  1. Receive the E-12 CH (PAL colour bar) signal above the CH. E-5 band is acceptable. Field strength : 55 – 80dBμV.
  2. Connect the oscilloscope to pin (36) of IC801. Range : 0.5V/div. Sweep time : 20μ sec/div.
  3. Connect a 0.01μF capacitor in between the standard signal generator's output and the Tuner IF output terminal. Frequency : 38.9MHz (CW) ± 5 kHz Level : about 90dBμV
  4. By using the Preset Key go to MANUAL (VHF-H) mode align the zero-beat waveform by using the Fine Tuning UP/DOWN. See Fig. 3.
  5. Go to NORMAL mode by using the Preset Key.
  6. Adjust T 201 to employ the zero-beat waveform. Adj. range : 38,9 MHz ± 25 kHz
  7. Note: Make sure that this adjustment with the bus data "VCO" at 31/63.

VIDEO CHROMA IC SP61 CHASSIS

The M52340SP jungle IC is a 52 pin DIL device manufactured by Mitsubishi. It incorporates Video IF, sound IF, chroma and deflection circuits and is compatible with the I2C interface used in Sharp's G series TVs.

It is powered by-

  • 1) 5 volts to VCC VCD pin 24
  • 2) 5 volts to VCC VIF pin 8 3) 8 volts to VCC pin 20
  • 4) 8 volts to H-VCC pin 9

1 AFT OUT Fixed to 7 volts with external resistors
2 SIFIN Sound IF input pin. Video signal output from pin 52 is buffered by Q30 1, passed through a
5.5Mhz filter then input on this pin.
3 AGC OUT Automatic gain control output directly to pin 1 of the tuner
4 IF AGC Controls gain of internal IF circuitry. This is iriven by the two A/V input/output select
FILTER lines from the processor (pins 37 and 38). When either is high (i.e. A/V mode) then the IF
is turned off via Q209
5 GND (VIF) Ground for video IF circuit.
6 IF-IN IF input from tuner. IF signal from pin 3 of the tuner passes through a pre-amp (4201) and
a saw filter (SF20 1), and is then inputed into this pin.
7 IF-IN IF input, as per pin 6
8 VCC VIF 5 volts supply for video IF circuit. 5 volts is generated from IC1604 pin 3.
9 H-VCC 8 volt supply for horizontal oscillator circuit. Generated from 15 volts power supply line. In
standby mode is fed from r/c 9 volt rail via R1624.
10 IIL vcc V C C
11 SCL Data clock signal for I2C bus. Also connected to E2prom (IC1002); Sound Processor
(IC1302); IGR IC (IC2302); Teletext IC (IC2801) and Tuner (TU201); Processor (IC1001).
The I2C bus is controlled from IClOO 1. See also pin 15.
12 SCP Sandcastle pulse output (multilevel) and flyback pulse input pin. Contains horizontal,
vertical, blanking, black level etc. Horizontal pulses from the flyback transformer pin 4 are
waveshaped by D1602 etc and input on this pin. The sandcastle pulse is output to the
chroma delay IC (IC802) pin 5.
13 H-OUT Horizontal output pulse. Output to horizontal driver transistor, Q602.
14 H-OSC Connection to 500Khz crystal. Divide by 32 for 15625HZ horiz rate
15 SDA Data signal for I2C bus. Also connected to E2prom(IC1002); Sound Processor (IC1302);
IGR IC (IC2302); Teletext IC (IC2801) and Tuner (TU201); Processor (IClOO 1). The I2C
bus is controlled from IC 100 1. See also pin 11.
16 AFC 1 Automatic frequency control filter. External capacitors (AFC 1 locks oscillation to sync
FILT pulses from feedback from FB transformer).
17 GND Ground.
1 8 RAMP V- Vertical drive output to vertical output IC (IC501) pin 2. Also output to V-sync input of the
PULSE processor (IClOO 1) pin 2
19 RAMP External cap and resistor to determine characteristics of AFC2 (phase relationship between
AFC-2 sync and flyback pulse to give horizontal centering).

IC401(LA7955) is controlled via 2 lines generated from the microprocessor, AV1 (pin 37) and AV2 (pin 38). Follows is a truth table and internal diagram for this IC.

Regulation

The 120 volt rail is regulated by IC703. The regulation is performed by the current flowing into pin 2. Rl and R2 have a fixed value so at a rail voltage of 120 volts approximately 0.4mA flows into pin 2 through the optocoupler.

If the 120 volt rail drops the current flowing through the optocoupler drops and turns off Q70 1 which turns off Q702. This allows Q703 to conduct more increasing the 120 volt rail.

If the 120 volt rail increases the current flowing through the optocoupler increases. Q701 turns on and Q702 turns on. This reduces the turn os time for 4703 which reduces the 120 volt rail.

When the set is turned on from standby Q705 is turned on This turns off Q706 and the power supply operates normally. Q706 has approximately 25 volts on the collector so D725 and D723 are reversed biased.

When the set is put into standby mode Q705 is turned off and Q706 turns on. This increases the current through the optocoupler which turns the 120 volt rail off. As the 120 volt rail drops D725 and D723 turn on supplying current to the optocoupler. A current of approximately 7 mA flows through the optocoupler keeping the 120 volt power supply turned off.

When turned on again from

standby Q706 is turned off so no current flows through the optocoupler. The 120 volt begins to operate and the 120 volt rises until IC703 controls the current flowing through the optocoupler.

Pulse Width Modulation

The power supply oscillates at approximately 50Khz, although this varies significantly with the load i.e. screen brightness etc.

The optocoupler IC702 varies the amplitude of the pulses appearing at the base of 4701 depending on the current flowing through the photodiode. This varies the drive to 4702, which varies the frequency and PWM of the drive.

For example, the higher the B+ 120 volt rail, the more current flows through the photodiode and the more IC702's transistor turns on. This increases the amplitude of the pulses on the base and therefore the collector of Q701. Q702 therefore turns on more, and more base drive of Q703, the chopper transistor, is shunted to ground i.e. the mark to space ratio decreases. This reduces the B+ rail.
