TO THE OWNER/OPERATOR/DEALER
All implements with moving parts are potentially hazardous. There is no substitute for a cautious, safe-minded operator who recognizes the potential hazards and follows reasonable safety practices. The manufacturer has designed this implement to be used with all its safety equipment properly attached to minimize the chance of accidents.
BEFORE YOU START!! Read the safety messages on the implement and shown in your manual.
Observe the rules of safety and common sense!
WARRANTY INFORMATION: Read and understand the complete Warranty Statement found in this Manual. Fill out the Warranty Registration Form in full
and return it within 30 Days. Make certain the Serial Number of the Machine is recorded on the Warranty Card and on the Warranty Form that you retain. The use of "will-fit" parts will void your warranty and can cause catastrophic failure with possible injury or death.

SAFETY
A safe and careful operator is the best operator . Safety is of primary importance to the manufacturer and should be to the owner/operator . Most accidents can be avoided by being aware of your equipment, your surroundings, and observing certain precautions. The first section of this manual includes a list of Safety Messages that, if followed, will help protect the operator and bystanders from injury or death. Read and understand these Safety Messages before assembling, operating or servicing this implement. This equipment should only be operated by those persons who have read the Manual, who are responsible and trained, and who know how to do
so safely and responsibly .
The Safety Alert Symbol combined with a Signal Word, as seen below, is used throughout this manual and on decals which are attached to the equipment. The Safety Alert Symbol means: “ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED!” The Symbol and Signal Word are intended to warn the owner/operator of impending hazards and the degree of possible injury faced when operating this equipment..
Practice all usual and customary safe working precautions and above all---remember safety is up to YOU. Only YOU can prevent serious injury or death from unsafe practices.
CAUTION! The lowest level of Safety Message; warns of possible injury. Decals
located on the Equipment with this Signal Word are Black and Yellow.
WARNING! Serious injury or possible death! Decals are Black and Orange.
DANGER! Imminent death/critical injury. Decals are Red and White. (SG-1)
READ, UNDERSTAND, and FOLLOW the following Safety
Messages. Serious injury or death may occur unless care is taken to follow the warnings and instructions stated in the Safety Messages. Always use good common sense to avoid hazards.

WARNING!
CAUTION!
Do not operate this Equipment with hydraulic oil leaking. Oil is expensive and its presence could present a hazard. Do not check for leaks with your hand! Use a piece of heavy paper or cardboard. High-pressure oil streams from breaks in the line could penetrate the skin and cause tissue damage including gangrene. If oil does penetrate the skin, have the injury treated immediately by a physician knowledgeable and skilled in this procedure. (SG-15)
The operator and all support personnel should wear hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, and proper hearing protection at all times for protection from injury including injury from items thrown by the equipment. (SG-16)
PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO LOUD NOISE MAY CAUSE PERMANENT HEARING LOSS! Tractors with or without an Implement
attached can often be noisy enough to cause permanent hearing loss. We recommend that you always wear hearing protection if the noise in the Operator’s position exceeds 80db. Noise over 85db over an extended period of time will cause severe hearing loss. Noise over 90db adjacent to the Operator over an extended period of time will cause permanent or total hearing loss. Note: Hearing loss from loud noise [from tractors, chain saws, radios, and other such sources close to the ear] is cumulative over a lifetime without hope of natural recovery. (SG-I7)

Mow only in conditions where you have clear visibility in daylight or with adequate artificial lighting. Never mow in darkness or foggy conditions where you cannot clearly see at least 100 yards in front and to the sides of the tractor and mower. Make sure that you can clearly see and identify passersby, steep slopes, ditches, drop-offs, overhead obstructions, power lines, debris and foreign objects. If you are unable to clearly see this type of items discontinue mowing. (SGM-1)
There are obvious and hidden potential hazards in the operation of this Mower. REMEMBER! This machine is often operated in heavy brush and in heavy weeds. The Blades of this Mower can throw objects if shields are not properly installed and maintained. Serious injury or even death may occur unless care is taken to insure the safety of the operator, bystanders, or passersby in the area. Do not operate this machine with anyone in the immediate area. Stop mowing if anyone is within 100 yards of mower. (SGM-2)

WARNING!
WARNING!
The rotating parts of this machine have been designed and tested for rugged use. However, they could fail upon impact with heavy, solid objects such as steel guard rails and concrete abutments. Such impact could cause the broken objects to be thrown outward at very high velocities. To reduce the possibility of property damage, serious injury, or even death, never allow the cutting blades to contact such obstacles.
Extreme care should be taken when operating near loose objects such as gravel, rocks, wire, and other debris. Inspect the area before mowing. Foreign objects should be removed from the site to prevent machine damage and/or bodily injury or even death. Any objects that cannot be removed must be clearly marked and carefully avoided by the operator. Stop mowing immediately if blades strike a foreign object. Repair all damage and make certain rotor or blade carrier is balanced before resuming mowing. (SGM-5)
Many varied objects, such as wire, cable, rope, or chains, can become entangled in the operating parts of the mower head. These items could then swing outside the housing at greater velocities than the blades. Such a situation is extremely hazardous and could result in serious injury or even death. Inspect the cutting area for such objects before mowing. Remove any like object from the site. Never allow the cutting blades to contact such items. (SGM-6)
Mow at the speed that you can safely operate and control the tractor and mower. Safe mowing speed depends on terrain condition and grass type, density, and height of cut. Normal ground speed range is from 0 to 5 mph. Use slow mowing speeds when operating on or near steep slopes, ditches, drop-offs, overhead obstructions, power lines, or when debris and foreign objects are to be avoided.

DANGER!
Replace bent or broken blade with new blades. NEVER ATTEMPT TO STRAIGHTEN BLADES SINCE THIS WILL LIKELY CRACK OR OTHERWISE DAMAGE THE BLADE WITH SUBSEQUENT FAILURE AND POSSIBLE SERIOUS INJURY FROM THROWN BLADES.
(SGM-10)
Do not mow with two machines in the same area except with Cab tractors with the windows closed.
(SGM-11)
Always disconnect the main PTO Driveline from the Tractor before performing service on the Mower. Never work on the Mower with the tractor PTO driveline connected and running. Blades or Drivelines could turn without warning and cause immediate entanglement, injury or death. (SRM-3)
Do not let the Blades turn when the Mower Deck is raised for any reason, including clearance or for turning. Raising the Mower deck exposes the Cutting Blades which creates a potentially serious hazard and could cause serious injury or even death from objects thrown from the Blades. (SRM-7)
Disc Mowers are capable under adverse conditions of throwing rocks and other debris for a considerable distance (50 yards or more) and causing serious bodily injury. Follow safety messages carefully.
STOP MOWING IF PASSERSBY ARE WITHIN 50 YARDS UNLESS:
-Front Curtain Shield is installed and in good condition. Replace when needed with genuine Original Equipment Manufactuers parts.
-Mower cutting head is running close to and parallel to the ground surface.
-Passersby are outside the thrown object zone.
-The area to be cut has been cleared of foreign material such as rocks, cans, glass, and debris NOTE: This Disc mower is not to be used for highway maintenance. (SDM-1)

When the cutting head is folded for transport, the center of gravity of the Tractor is raised and the possibility of overturn or tip-over is increased. Serious injury or even death could result from a tractor turnover. Turn slowly and use extra care on hillsides. Never fold the cutting head while on a hillside as the tractor might overturn. (SDM-2)
Disc Mowers rotate at a very high rate of speed (3000 RPM). Vibration due to missing, broken, or unbalanced components may cause serious imbalance and lead to rapid failure of components and possible bodily injury from components failure or thrown objects. KEEP BLADE BOLTS AND DISC ATTACHING BOLTS TIGHTENED TO A SPECIFIED IN OPERATORS MANUAL TO ASSURE THE INTEGRITY OF THE ASSEMBLIES. (SDM-3)
There are obvious and hidden potential hazards in the operation of the Disc Mower. REMEMBER! This machine is often operated in hay, grass , and heavy weeds which could hide foreign objects. Remove all foreign debris before mowing an area. The Blades of this mower can throw objects if shields are not installed and maintained. Serious injury or even death may occur unless care is taken to insure the safety of the operator, bystanders, or passersby in the area. Do not operate this machine with anyone in the immediate area. Stop mowing if anyone is within 50 yards of mower. (SDM-4)

Be particularly careful when transporting the Implement with the Tractor. Turn curves or go up hills
(S3PT-1)
only at a low speed and using a gradual steering angle. Rear mounted implements move the center of gravity to the rear and remove weight from the front wheels. Make certain, by adding front ballast, that at least 20% of the tractor’s weight is on the front wheels to prevent rearing up, loss of steering control or Tractor tip-over. Slow down on rough or uneven surfaces to prevent
loss of steering control which could result in property damage or possible injury. Do not transport
unless 3-Point lift lever is fully raised and in the latched transport position. Dropping implement in transport can cause serious damage to the tractor and/or Implement and possibly cause the operator or others to be injured or killed.
(S3PT-2)
DANGER! A rear Implement can fall if not properly supported. Always use the stand on the front hitch (if
equipped) or block up securely to prevent falling and possible crushing injury and/or other injury from holding or lifting heavy components. Use the stand to stabilize the implement during storage.
(S3PT-3)
WARNING!
Use extreme care when lowering or unfolding the implement’s wings. Make sure no bystanders are close by or underneath the wings. Allow ample clearance around the implement when folding or unfolding the wings. Use extreme caution around buildings or overhead power lines. (S3PT-5)

Make sure the PTO shield is installed when using PTO-driven equipment. Always replace the PTO shield if it is damaged or missing. (S3PT-8)
Relieve hydraulic pressure prior to doing any maintenance or repair work on the Implement. Place the Implement on the ground or securely blocked up, disengage the PTO, and turn off the tractor engine. Push and pull the Remote Cylinder lever in and out several times prior to starting any maintenance or repair work. (S3PT-9)
The rotating parts of this machine continue to rotate even after the PTO has been turned off. The operator should remain in his seat for 60 seconds after the brake has been set, the PTO disengaged, the tractor turned off, and all evidence of rotation has ceased. (S3PT-10)
“Wait a minute...Save a life!”
This Implement is wider than the Tractor. Be careful when operating or transporting this equipment to prevent the Implement from running into or striking sign posts, guard rails, concrete abutments or other solid objects. Such an impact could cause the Implement and Tractor to pivot violently resulting in loss of steering control, serious injury, or even death. Never allow the Implement to contact obstacles. (S3PT-12)
DO NOT allow any person under a folded wing unless wing is securely locked up or supported. DO NOT approach the Implement unless the Tractor is turned off and all motion has ceased. Never work under the
frame work, or any lifted component unless the implement is securely supported or blocked up. A sudden or inadvertent fall by any of these components could cause serious injury or even death. (STI-3)

Safety Break Away Adjustment
When the mower meets an obstacle during operation, the break away latch will release and allow the mower to swing back in order to minimize damage. The break away can be adjusted to release at higher or lower forces by changing the compression on the Break Away Spring (T). (See Figures 12 &13.)
NOTE: The compression spring should not be compressed to less than 2 15/16"! Apply grease to the break away sliding section after every 8 hours of operation.
IMPORTANT: If the break away trips, ST OP THE TRACT OR AND SHUT OFF THE PTO DRIVE AND ENGINE SECURE PARKING BREAK ! WAIT FOR ALL ROTATION TO STOP! Then inspect the cutter bar for damage and remove the obstacle. Reverse tractor direction until the break away resets. Engage the PTO drive and continue forward.
WARNING!
WARNING!
NEVER REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS WHILE THE DISC IS ROTATING, EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS. DISENGAGE THE PTO, STOP THE TRACTOR ENGINE, WAIT FOR ALL ROTATING PARTS TO STOP AND ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE BEFORE LEAVING THE TRACTOR SEAT. NEVER ALLOW ANYONE ON THE TRACTOR WHILE YOU REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS!
NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO APPROACH THE MOWER WHILE DISCS ARE ROTATING. SERIOUS INJURY CAN BE CAUSED BY ROTATING PARTS.

BELT TENSION ADJUSTMENT
The belt tension must be adjusted properly to prevent the belt from slipping. To adjust the belt tension, loosen the jam nut and tighten the nuts on the Tensioning Rod until each belt can be depressed 1/2" when a force of 11 pounds is applied to the belt at a point midway between the pulleys (See Figure 14). An Access Hole (V) is provided in the belt shield to check belt tension (See Figure 15).
Figure 14
NOTE: It is very important that the belt tension be checked during the first few hours of operation and periodically
thereafter.
Operating with the cutter bar inclined up or down.
The disc mower can be operated at an angle of up to 45 degrees above horizontal or up to 30 degrees below horizontal for periods of no more than 30 minutes. The cutter bar must then be operated in the horizontal position for approximately 25-30 minutes before resuming inclined operation. This will allow complete covering of all components with lubricant which had drained away from some parts during inclined operation. (See
Figure 16.)

Swath Board
The Swath Board (W) is located on the outer end of the cutter bar. The swath stick can be positioned at three settings to handle different crop conditions such as long, short or flattened crops. Remove the front bolt (Y), move the swath stick to the desired position and reinstall the bolt in the new hole. (See Figure 17.)
A Compression Spring (X) on the swath board provides enough pressure to keep the board in place while allowing the board to flex if an obstruction or heavy build-up of material is met. It may be necessary to increase the tension of spring by tightening the nut on the carriage bolt securing the swath board. (See Figure 18.)

WARNING!
CAUTION!
CAUTION!
CAUTION!
DISC MOWERS ARE NOT INTENDED FOR ROADSIDE OR MUNICIPAL MOWING. THEY ARE INTENDED FOR AGRICULTURAL USE ONLY. DO NOT OPERATE MOWER NEAR STRUCTURES WHICH MAY BE VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE FROM THROWN OBJECTS. THE OPERATING TRACTOR SHOULD BE EQUIPPED WITH AN ENCLOSED CAB!
BEFORE STARTING OPERATION, MAKE SURE THE COVER SHEET IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND IN THE LOWERED POSITION. DO NOT OPERATE THE MOWER WITHOUT THE COVER SHEET IN PLACE! AND IN THE LOWERED POSITION
IMPORTANT: Af ter transporting the mower and before beginning field work, lower the cutting bar to the horizontal position, engage the PTO drive and run the tractor at idle for several minutes to lubricate all internal parts. Place the tractor hydraulic valve in float position so the mower can follow the terrain.
BEFORE STARTING OPERATION, MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO PEOPLE OR ANIMALS IN THE VICINITY OF THE MOWER.
DO NOT ENGAGE THE PTO WITH THE TRACTOR RUNNING AT HIGH SPEED. DRIVELINE DAMAGE MAY OCCUR.
CAUTION!
OPERATE MOWER AT 540 RPM ONLY. HIGHER INPUT SPEEDS MAY RESULT IN COMPONENT FAILURE.
1. Engage the PTO drive and gradually increase the speed to 540 RPM. Only enter the crop when the mower is operating at 540 RPM. Do not reduce PTO RPM below 540 when mowing as this may cause plugging. If necessary to slow RPM, stop forward movement then reduce RPM.
2. Start the forward motion of the tractor. The high speed cutting ability of the Disc Mower allows faster ground speeds. Generally ground speed of 4 to 6 MPH will yield good results. Match your speed to the terrain and slow down on hilly or uneven ground. Reduce speed if the mower leaves uncut material. To mow neatly while turning corners, the ground speed will need to be reduced.
3. Cut around the field in a clockwise direction. On RH corners slow ground speed and turn sharply with mower bar in contact, with the ground to achieve square corners, It is necessary to raise the bar slightly when making LH turns. LH turns with the bar in contact with the ground may cause the breakaway to unlatch or lead to bar damage.
4. Maintain full RPM when running over previously cut material. Reduced RPM may cause plugging in these conditions.
5. In some field conditions, such as newly seeded fields, dirt or debris may build up between the rock guards. Build up in this area may cause streaking, leaving uncut strips. Clean the cutterbar frequently to prevent premature knife wear.
6. When mowing is finished, gradually reduce PTO speed and disengage the PTO drive.

WARNING!
Disk and Blade Maintenance
For longer service life, carefully check discs, blades and bolts daily. When replacements are necessary, use only Rhino recommended parts. Use of parts not approved by Rhino could void the warranty.
Worn, bent or blunt blades will require more power. To cut efficiently replace worn or damaged blades as soon as possible. To replace the blade, remove the Self-locking-Nut (AA), Spring Washer (CC) remove the Blade Bolt (BB). Check the condition of the bolt and nut. If either are damaged, replace with new parts. The selflocking nut must be replaced after being removed three times due to reduced grip on the bolt threads. Torque the blade bolt to 48 FT-LBS. (See Figure 1.)
BEFORE PERFORMING INSPECTIONS, MAINTENANCE, OR ADJUSTMENTS OF THE MOWER, STOP THE TRACTOR ENGINE, REMOVE THE KEY, AND SECURE PARKING BRAKE. WAIT FOR ALL ROTATING MOTION OF THE MOWER TO STOP AND DISCONNECT THE DRIVELINE SHAFT.
BLOCK THE MOWER AND TRACTOR TO PREVENT MOVEMENT BEFORE PERFORMING ADJUSTMENTS OR MAINTENANCE.
AFTER MAINTENANCE OR ADJUSTMENTS ARE COMPLETED, REMOVE ALL BLOCKS AND TOOLS USED IN MAINTENANCE OR ADJUSTMENTS. FAILURE TO CLEAR THE AREA AROUND THE MOWER BEFORE OPERATION COULD RESULT IN OBJECTS BEING THROWN TOWARD THE OPERATOR OR BYSTANDERS.
Important: During operation, the blades will reach a speed of 3000 RPM! It is very important that the nut and bolt be in good condition and torqued to 48 FT-LBS.
BB
CAUTION!
Disc Replacement
Re-Installing Disc Assemblies. Disc should be installed on the spline shaft as shown in (Figure 2) for different models. The cutting edges of the
blade should face the disc rotation direction. Blades are reversible.
CAUTION!
A BENT BLADE CAN SERIOUSLY EFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE MACHINE AND THROW MORE OBJECTS. REPLACE BENT BLADES AT ONCE! ALWAYS REPLACE BLADES AND HARDWARE IN PAIRS TO MAINTAIN BALANCE.
ALW AYS REPLACE BLADES AND BLADE FASTENERS IN P AIRS TO MAINT AIN BALANCE. VIBRATION MAY LEAD TO COMPONENT FAILURE.

IMPORTANT: Replace the lube oil after first 10 hours of operation and after every season of use thereafter. NOTE: Dispose of used oil properly . NOTE: The surface temperature of the discs, cutter bar and gearbox will rise to approximately 175 degrees
during operation. This is normal and is not an indication of excessive friction or low oil level.
To drain the oil from the bar, remove Drain Plug. Plug on underside of bar and remove level plug to aid in draining oil.

PROPER TORQUE FOR FASTENERS
Because of the severe operating conditions, correct bolt torque is very important. An improperly torqued bolt can be easily shaken loose or broken by the vibrations. When replacing bolts, always use the same grade of bolt as used originally . Use this chart as a guide to tightening all bolts. Torque values listed are for general use only.
NOTE: These values apply to fasteners as received from supplier, dry or when lubricated with normal engine oil. They do not apply if special graphited or molydisulphide greases or other extreme pressure lubricants are used. This applies to both UNF fine and UNC coarse threads.
RECOMMENDED TORQUE IN FOOT POUNDS UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE MANUAL *

Storage
To prepare your Disc Mower for storage:
1. Clean the mower of all dirt and debris.
2. Drain the oil from the cutter bar and replace with fresh SAE HD90 lube oil. (See Lubrication Instructions.)
3. Store the mower on a clean, dry surface in the down (working) position.
4. Loosen the drive belts or remove the belts and store in a dry place.
5. Lubricate all points and slides before storage. This prevents corrosion.
NOTE: Now would be a good time to replace all damaged parts in preparation for the next cutting season.

TO THE OWNER/OPERATOR/DEALER
To keep your implement running efficiently and safely, read your manual thoroughly and follow these directions and the Safety Messages in this Manual. The Table of Contents clearly identifies each section where you can easily find the information you need.
The OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (1928.51 Subpart C) makes these minimum safety requirements of tractor operators:
REQUIRED OF THE OWNER:
1. Provide a Roll-Over-Protective Structure that meets the requirements of this Standard; and
2. Provide Seatbelts that meet the requirements of this paragraph of this Standard and SAE J4C; and
3. Ensure that each employee uses such Seatbelt while the tractor is moving; and
4. Ensure that each employee tightens the Seatbelt sufficiently to confine the employee to the protected area provided by the ROPS.
REQUIRED OF THE OPERATOR
1. Securely fasten seatbelt if the tractor has a ROPS.
2. Where possible, avoid operating the tractor near ditches, embankments, and holes.
3. Reduce speed when turning, crossing slopes, and on rough, slick, or muddy surfaces.
4. Stay off slopes too steep for safe operation.
5. Watch where you are going - especially at row ends, on roads, and around trees.
6. Do not permit others to ride.
7. Operate the tractor smoothly - no jerky turns, starts, or stops.
8. Hitch only to the drawbar and hitch points recommended by the tractor manufacturer.
9. When the tractor is stopped, set brakes securely and use park lock, if available.
Keep children away from danger all day , every day...
