VOX
VOX can be used on VOX enabled two-way radios. Refer to the two-way radio documentation for the setup and use of the VOX feature. When talking into the boom microphone using the VOX function, expect an activation delay. A typical method to activate the VOX command is to breathe into the microphone or speaking a simple, one syllable word (such as “talk”).
Notes:
• The VOX function can be found to activate in windy conditions or
conditions where there is a lot of background noise. Sensitivity adjustments can only be made by the two-way radio.
• Ensuring there is a wind sock on the boom microphone should
help avoid activation by wind noise, but may not eliminate the issue.

INTRODUCTION
TROUBLESHOOTING
The SM1R is a state of the art hearing protection communication system that allows you to retain situational awareness whilst remaining in full contact with your two-way radio communication device.
Situational awareness is provided by processing technology and environmental microphones mounted within the headset.
Contact through two-way radios is enabled by the SRCK60(XX)* cable assembly that is also provided with the headset.
Please note that the SM1R headset uses power from the two- way radio. The SM1R must be connected by the appropriate SRCK60(XX) cable to the radio to provide both situational awareness and communication to the two-way radio.
1. Headset does not power up
2. Headset is switching on and off intermittently
3. The headset is not reacting to any controls
• Disconnect the headset at the Inline PTT check the connectors
are clear from any particles or fluids, then reconnect the headset.
• Check the two-way radio is powered on, and that the two-way
radio battery is charged
• Check the two-way radio connector is properly connected to the
two-way radio. If the connector has threaded screws to hold the connector in place, ensure these are fastened correctly.
4. Two-way radio audio is not clear or distorted
5. The headset cuts out
*SRCK60(XX) part numbers vary depending on the radio connector. Consult your supplier for the appropriate cable.
• Adjust the two-way radio volume at the two-way radio controls.
Setting a volume level of 50% is a good starting point.
• Check that the battery in the two-way radio is charged
6. Can’t hear any of the surrounding environment
• The headset may be in ‘Quiet mode’, or power is not present to
the headset. Press the power button on the headset to toggle between Quiet mode and mode
7. The receiver can’t hear my voice and only can hear the background noise
• Refer to the ‘Wearing the headset’ chapter of the manual.
Ensure that your boom microphone is set up appropriately.

WEARING THE HEADSET
OPERATING THE HEADSET
The SM1R headset is designed to be worn with the headset sealing around the ears. Specific examples of how to fit the headset around the ears are covered under the ‘Fitting the headset’ section. The fit does alter slightly depending on what style of mount is used - headband, behind the neck or mounted to a helmet directly.
MODE:
When the headset is powered up, the unit is set into ‘ mode’*. ‘ mode’ allows full situational awareness of your surroundings
in addition to two-way radio communications.

Inline PTT
The boom microphone should be placed approximately 5mm (1/4”) in front of the mouth. Check to ensure the white dot or microphone label is facing towards you. The orientation is essential as the microphone is directional. If the microphone faces a different direction, this may lead to a reduction in transmission quality.
