The MC5-MS microphone requires 48 V phantom power to operate. Phantom power is supplied by
most professional video cameras, mixing consoles, or recording devices.
Connect the XLR outputs to your device, and activate phantom power for both channels on your
source.
Mounting the Microphone
Attach the MC5-MS to a camcorder via the camcorder’s microphone mount or a shock mount (not
included). For mic-stand mounting, use a shock mount or standard microphone clip.
Important!
Make sure the microphone is in the correct orientation when it’s mounted. The word UP on the ring
at the base of the microphone should point up. Also make sure the microphone’s grille and ports
are not obstructed.
1. Attach the XLR connectors to your camcorder, mixer, or recording device.
• Red—right channel
• White—left channel
2. Activate 48 V phantom power for both channels on your camcorder or device.
Mono
In mono mode, the microphone will only record sound to one channel.
Mono recording is convenient for using the MC5-MS to record background sound to one channel,
while the on-camera talent is using a hand-held or lavalier mic to record to the other channel.
For mono recording, turn off only the right channel’s phantom power. Continue to send phantom
power to the left channel.
