SEMPELL
Operating and Safety Instructions
Hydraulics
Before mounting the hydraulics these instructions must be fully read and understood.
WARNING!
For safety reasons, it is important to take the following precautions before working on the valve or installation into the line:
1. Personnel to install and adjust the hydraulics must only use the proper tools and must wear (protective) clothing required for the work area.
2. The personnel must be familiar with the equipment and the operation of the hydraulic control system, the immediate environment of the equipment, the safety devices and any emergency measures required.
3. Before mounting the hydraulic actuators, the pipeline must be made pressure less.
4. Only qualified and experienced personnel are allowed to handle the hydraulics.
5. During assembly/disassembly, the hydraulics must remain pressure less and the pressure reservoirs must be discharged.
6. During assembly/disassembly of springloaded hydraulic actuators, the springs must be released.
Storage / Protection / Suitability of the Hydraulics
Storage
When a hydraulic control system is to be stored for some time before being fitted, storage should be in the original delivery crates, with any waterproof lining and desiccant in place. Storage should be off the ground in a clean, dry, area. If storage is for a period longer than six months, the desiccant bags (if supplied) should be changed every six months. If the hydraulics have been stored for more than twelve months, they should be inspected by Sempell personnel before being fitted.
Protection
Hydraulic control systems are delivered with protection according to customer’s specification. Any protective wrapping or covers should remain in place until the hydraulic control system is filled.
Suitability of the hydraulics
Check that the data shown on the identification plate of the hydraulics and the control device correspond to the operating conditions. When in doubt, contact Sempell.
Working on the hydraulic control system
1.
The hydraulic unit and the control device must be assembled in the intended location. Hydraulic actuators with oil sump must be mounted in the proper position on the specified valve.
2. Operating instructions must be available for reference at any time.
3.
Operating instructions as defined by local legislation or regulations must be available and must be observed. Individual components should be easily accessible for checking and maintenance.
4. Any packing must be removed during mounting.
5. All work must be carried out by trained and qualified personnel only.
6. Operators must be instructed by experienced personnel before commissioning.
7. Protective caps and plugs required for transport are only to be removed immediately before installation.
8. The system must be checked for visual damages before commissioning. Any damage must be repaired immediately.
9. The hydraulics must only be operated if in a flawless state.
10. All objects and other materials not required for the operation of the hydraulics must be removed from the operating area.
11. Ensure that all safety devices have been installed and are fully operational. When the system isin operation, safety devices must not be removed or put out of operation.
12. Ensure that only authorized personnel are in the operating area and that no person is endangered by commissioning the hydraulics.
13. Works must only be done when the system is pressure less and electrical power has been disconnected. When work is in progress, the system must be protected against accidental activation.
14. There is a risk that hydraulic oil is discharged from the system at high pressure and high temperature
15. Ensure that all components are at room temperature when working.
16. A hazardous operating area must have restricted access. Ensure that unauthorized personnel cannot enter the area.
17. Sempell does not accept liability when regulations, instructions and warning indications have not been observed.
Operating the actuators, routine maintenance, spare parts
Read all warnings before operation and/or maintenance of the hydraulic control system!
General
Any regulations for waste reduction, recycling and disposal must be observed. It is not allowed to make any changes to the system without prior approval in writing. In the event of fire, the system must be switched off by the main switch. In case of malfunctioning electronics, there is a risk of electric shocks.

Operating the actuators
Hydraulic actuators can be operated by the pressure of the connected unit or by a hand pump (optional). The corresponding solenoid valves must be electrically controlled.
Routine maintenance
Maintenance should be carried out at regular intervals. Hereby the hydraulic oil should be checked (oil test in the laboratory) and, ifnecessary, replaced.
The hoses must be replaced as a whole if they have been damaged or at the first signs of leakage.
Spare parts
A hydraulic control system is identified by the order number stamped on the identification plate. This reference should be quoted when making any after sales queries, spare parts or repair enquiries/orders.
