Taking Inventory:
The Reviewer’s Package that we sent you should contain the following:
500GB GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive
Three Personality Cables to connect the drive to your computer including:
o USB (works for both USB 2.0 and 3.0 connections) o FireWire 800 o eSATA
USB 3.0 PC Card Adapter with USB power cord
Getting Started:
Setting up and activating the GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drive is quick and easy. Follow these simple steps to select the interface cable of your choice, load the included Memeo software and ensure your data is backed up and secure.
Give Your GoFlex Drive Some Personality:
The signature feature of the GoFlex ultra-portable drives is the Personality Cables that allow you to quickly and easily connect the storage device to a variety of ports. As mentioned, you can choose from USB 2.0, USB 3.0, FireWire 800 or eSATA.
Here’s how the unique GoFlex cable system works:
1. First, select the appropriate Personality Cable into the back of the GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drive. As stated above, we have provided you with Personality Cables for USB (compatible with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports), FireWire 800 and eSATA.

2. At the back of the drive, you will notice a port that corresponds to the connector at the base of the Personality Cable that you have chosen. This is the SATA port that allows you to connect multiple cables to a single universal base. Plug the appropriate Personality Cable into the back of the GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drive.
3. Plug the other end of the Personality Cable into your computer or other compatible device.
4. The two white LEDs at the base of the Personality Cable will blink a few times, as the Drive connects to your computer, and then slowly pulse as long as it remains tethered to your machine.
Configuring Your GoFlex Software:
For Windows users: At this point, if all you want to do is store individual files and folders on your Windows machine, you can do so. However, to take advantage of the GoFlex ultra-portable drive, you should double-click on the file titled Setup.exe in the folder titled FreeAgent GoFlex Drive to install Seagate Dashboard, which is licensed from Memeo.
For Mac OS X users (Leopard and Snow Leopard): You will immediately see a pop-up menu asking you whether or not you intend to use the Drive with Time Machine, Apple’s proprietary backup solution.
o Select “No” for now, so that you can test the Drive with our backup solution,
Seagate Dashboard and Memeo Backup for Mac.
o You will then see a pop-up menu asking you how you intend to use the drive.
The two options are:
Mac and PC  Mac Only
This is to determine how the GoFlex ultra-portable drive will be formatted. If you select Mac and PC, you will be able to use the Drive to drag and drop files, but you won’t be able to use Memeo Backup for Mac or Time Machine. For the purposes of this product review, we recommend that you select Mac Only.
