2.1PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Maxtor drive leadership continues wit the DiamondMax Plus 8 drive - the first singlehead, single platter, 7200RPM product. DiamondMax Plus 8 drives combine
performance and value making a perfect choice for mainstream consumer or
commercial/business desktop users.
DiamondMax Plus 8 drives use the Ultra ATA/133 interface, the fastest desktop
interface with maximum data transfer rates of 133MB/second.
Fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) motors minimize drive acoustics, allowing the drive to
operate with low sound output. DiamondMax Plus 8 is designed for higher reliability.
The drive’s inner diameter load/unload ramp locks the recording head into a
protective carrier to cradle the head during shipment and any other time the drive is
not in operation.
DiamondMax Plus 8 drives deliver high reliability and data integrity using Maxtor
developed Shock Protection System (SPS) and Data Protection System (DPS). SPS
and DPS give the user enhanced protection against both operating and non-operating
shock and verify essential functions in seconds to minimize costly drive returns.

Spin-up
The drive is spinning up following initial application of power and has
not yet reached full speed.
Seek
A random access operation by the drive.
Read/Write
Data is being read from or written to the drive.
Idle
The drive is spinning, the actuator is parked and powered off and all
other circuitry is powered on.
The drive is capable of responding to read commands within 40 ms.
Standby
The motor is not spinning. The drive will leave this mode upon receipt
of a command that requires disk access. The time-out value for this
mode is programmable. The buffer is active to accept write data.
Sleep
This is the lowest power state – with the interface set to inactive. A
software or hardware reset is required to return the drive to the Standby
state.
3.7EPA Energy Star Compliance
Maxtor Corporation supports the goals of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s Energy Star program to reduce the electrical power
consumption of computer equipment.
