SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS – This manual will show you how to
use your charger safely and effectively. Please read, understand and
follow these instructions and precautions carefully, as this manual
contains important safety and operating instructions. The safety
messages used throughout this manual contain a signal word, a
message and an icon.
The signal word indicates the level of the hazard in a situation.

Use only recommended attachments. Use of an attachment not 1.3
recommended or sold by Schumacher® Electric Corporation may
result in a risk of re, electric shock or injury to persons or damage
to property.
To reduce the risk of damage to the electric plug or cord, pull by 1.4
the plug rather than the cord when disconnecting the charger.
An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. 1.5
Use of an improper extension cord could result in a risk of re and
electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure:
That the pins on the plug of the extension cord are the same •
number, size and shape as those of the plug on the charger.
That the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical •
condition.
That the wire size is large enough for the AC ampere rating of the •
charger as specied in section 8.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from the 1.6
outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning. Simply
turning off the controls will not reduce this risk.
Do not operate the charger with a damaged cord or plug; have the 1.7
cord or plug replaced immediately by a qualied service person.

To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions 1.11
and those published by the battery manufacturer and the

manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity
of the battery. Review the cautionary markings on these products
and on the engine.
This charger employs parts, such as switches and circuit breakers, 1.12
that tend to produce arcs and sparks. If used in a garage, locate
this charger 18 inches (45.72 cm) or more above oor level.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS2.
RISK OF EXPLOSIVE GASES.
NEVER smoke or allow a spark or ame in the 2.1
vicinity of a battery or engine.
Remove personal metal items such as rings, bracelets, 2.2
necklaces and watches when working with a lead-acid
battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current high
enough to weld a ring or the like to metal, causing a severe burn.
Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a metal tool onto 2.3
the battery. It might spark or short-circuit the battery or other
electrical part that may cause an explosion.
Use this charger for charging LEAD-ACID batteries only. It is not 2.4
intended to supply power to a low voltage electrical system other
than in a starter-motor application. Do not use this battery charger
for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home
appliances. These batteries may burst and cause injury to persons
and damage to property.
NEVER charge a frozen battery.2.5
NEVER overcharge a battery.2.6
Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid 2.7
when you work near a lead-acid battery.
Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid 2.8
contacts your skin, clothing or eyes.
Wear complete eye and body protection, including safety goggles 2.9
and protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working
near the battery.
If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash 2.10
the area with soap and water. If acid enters your eye, immediately
ood the eye with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and
get medical attention right away.

If battery acid is accidentally swallowed, drink milk, the whites of 2.11
eggs or water. DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical attention
immediately.
PREPARING TO CHARGE3.
RISK OF CONTACT WITH BATTERY ACID.
BATTERY ACID IS A HIGHLY CORROSIVE
SULFURIC ACID.
If it is necessary to remove the battery 3.1
from the vehicle to charge it, always remove
the grounded terminal rst. Make sure all of
the accessories in the vehicle are off to prevent arcing.
Be sure the area around the battery is well ventilated while the 3.2
battery is being charged.
Clean the battery terminals before charging the battery. During 3.3
cleaning, keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact
with your eyes, nose and mouth. Use baking soda and water to
neutralize the battery acid and help eliminate airborne corrosion.
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
Add distilled water to each cell until the battery acid reaches the 3.4
level specied by the battery manufacturer. Do not overll. For
a battery without removable cell caps, such as valve regulated
lead acid batteries (VRLA), carefully follow the manufacturer’s
recharging instructions.
Read, understand and follow all instructions for the charger, 3.5
battery, vehicle and any equipment used near the battery
and charger. Study all of the battery manufacturer’s specic
precautions while charging and recommended rates of charge.
Determine the voltage of the battery by referring to the vehicle 3.6
owner’s manual and make sure that the output voltage selector
switch is set to the correct voltage. If the charger has an adjustable
charge rate, charge the battery in the lowest rate rst.
Make sure that the charger cable clips make tight connections.3.7

DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS5.
Connect and disconnect the DC output clips only after setting 5.1
all of the charger switches to the “off” position (if applicable) and
removing the AC plug from the electrical outlet. Never allow the
clips to touch each other.
Attach the clips to the battery and chassis, as indicated in sections 5.2
6 and 7.

Position the AC and DC cables to reduce the risk of damage by 6.1
the hood, door and moving or hot engine parts. NOTE: If it is
necessary to close the hood during the charging process, ensure
that the hood does not touch the metal part of the battery clips or
cut the insulation of the cables.
Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and other parts that can 6.2
cause injury.

Check the polarity of the battery posts. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) 6.3
battery post usually has a larger diameter then the NEGATIVE
(NEG, N, -) post.
Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected) to 6.4
the chassis. If the negative post is grounded to the chassis (as in
most vehicles), see step 6.5. If the positive post is grounded to the
chassis, see step 6.6.
For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) 6.5
clip from the battery charger to the POSITIVE (POS, P, +)
ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK)
clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-metal
body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or
engine block.
For a positive-grounded vehicle, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) 6.6
clip from the battery charger to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -)
ungrounded post of the battery. Connect the POSITIVE (RED)
clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery.
Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines or sheet-metal
body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or
engine block.
Connect charger AC supply cord to electrical outlet.6.7
When disconnecting the charger, turn all switches to off, 6.8
disconnect the AC cord, remove the clip from the vehicle chassis
and then remove the clip from the battery terminal.
See CALCULATING CHARGE TIME for length of charge 6.9
information.

insulated battery cable to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) battery post.
Connect the POSITIVE (RED) charger clip to the POSITIVE (POS, 7.3
P, +) post of the battery.
Position yourself and the free end of the cable you previously 7.4
attached to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) battery post as far away
from the battery as possible – then connect the NEGATIVE
(BLACK) charger clip to the free end of the cable.
Do not face the battery when making the nal connection.7.5
Connect charger AC supply cord to electrical outlet.7.6
When disconnecting the charger, always do so in the reverse 7.7
order of the connecting procedure and break the rst connection
while as far away from the battery as practical.
A marine (boat) battery must be removed and charged on shore. 7.8
To charge it onboard requires equipment specially designed for
marine use.
GROUNDING AND AC POWER CORD CONNECTIONS8.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK OR FIRE.
This battery charger is for use on a 8.1
nominal 120-volt circuit. The plug must
be plugged into an outlet that is properly
installed and grounded in accordance
with all local codes and ordinances. The plug pins must t the
receptacle (outlet). Do not use with an ungrounded system.
8.2 Never alter the AC cord or plug provided – if it does
not t the outlet, have a proper grounded outlet installed by a
qualied electrician. An improper connection can result in a risk of
an electric shock or electrocution. NOTE: Pursuant to Canadian
Regulations, use of an adapter plug is not allowed in Canada. Use
of an adapter plug in the United States is not recommended and
should not be used.
Recommended minimum AWG size for extension cord:8.3
100 feet (30.5 meters) long or less - use an 18 gauge (AWG) •
[0.82 mm2] extension cord.
Over 100 feet (30.5 meters) long - use a 16 gauge (AWG) •
[1.31 mm2] extension cord.

Remove all cord wraps and uncoil the cables prior to using the battery
charger.

supplied to the battery charger.
CONNECTED (red) LED lit: Indicates that the charger is properly
connected to the battery.
CHARGING (yellow) LED lit: Indicates the charger has detected
a battery and is charging it.
CHARGING (yellow) LED ashing: Indicates the charger is in
abort mode.
CHARGED (green) LED lit: Indicates the battery is fully charged
and the charger is in maintain mode.
NOTE: See the Operating Instructions section for a complete
description of the charger modes.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS12.
This battery charger must be properly assembled in
accordance with the assembly instructions before it is used.
Charging
Ensure that all of the charger components are in place and in 1.
good working condition, for example, the plastic boots on the
battery clips.

Connect the battery following the connection instructions 2.
described in Using the Quick-Disconnect Cable Connectors
section.
Connect the AC power following the precautions listed in Section 8.3.
If you’ve connected everything correctly, the AC POWER 4. LED
will be lit indicating the charger has power, the CONNECTED
LED will be lit indicating the battery is properly connected and
the CHARGING LED will be lit indicating that the charger is
charging. If any of these LEDs are not lit, check the connections at
the battery and AC source or have the battery checked/replaced.
NOTE: This charger is equipped with an auto-start feature. It will not
supply current to the battery clips until a battery is properly connected
and the CONNECTED LED is lit. Unlike traditional chargers, the
clips will not spark if touched together.
Using The Quick-Connect Cable Connectors
Connect either of the two output cable assemblies to the charger.
Make sure to place the charger on a dry, non-ammable surface like
metal or concrete.
NOTE: Never connect the clamp and ring terminal connectors
together for use in other applications, such as external battery or
other power source charging, or to extend the output cable length, as
reverse polarity and/or overcharge conditions will occur.
Battery Clips
Connect the battery clip cable assembly to the charger. Follow the safety
instructions in sections 6 or 7 to connect the output clips to the battery.
Ring Terminals
The ring connectors permanently attach the battery providing easy
access to quickly charge your battery. To permanently attach it to
a battery, loosen and remove each nut from the bolts at the battery
terminals. Connect the red positive ring connector ring to the positive
(POS, P, +) battery terminal. Connect the black negative ring
connector ring to the negative (NEG, N, -) battery terminal. Replace
and tighten the nuts to secure it. Take care to keep both wires and
plug away from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Connect the ring
connector cable assembly to the charger. Periodically check the ring
connectors to ensure they are properly connected.

Aborted Charge
If charging can not be completed normally, charging will abort. When
charging aborts, the charger’s output is shut off, and the CHARGING
LED will ash. To reset after an aborted charge, either disconnect
the battery or unplug the charger.
Completion of Charge
Charge completion is indicated by the CHARGED LED. When lit,
the charger has stopped charging and switched to the Maintain Mode
of operation.
Maintain Mode (Float-Mode Monitoring)
When the CHARGED LED is lit, the charger has started Maintain
Mode. In this mode, the charger keeps the battery fully charged by
delivering a small current when necessary. If the charger has to provide
its maximum maintain current for a continuous 12 hour period, it will
go into Abort Mode (see Aborted Charge section). This is usually
caused by a drain on the battery or the battery could be bad. Make
sure there are no loads on the battery. If there are, remove them. If
there are none, have the battery checked or replaced.
Maintaining a Battery
The Schumacher XM1-5 is a battery maintainer, and maintains both
6 and 12 volt batteries, keeping them at full charge. It can charge
small batteries and maintain both small and large batteries. If you are
maintaining a fully charged large battery, you will properly utilize the
battery charger. However, if you use the battery charger to charge a
large battery, such as a marine deep cycle battery, that was not fully
charged, you may lose some of the battery’s capacity. This would
cause the large battery to be unable to hold a charge and become
useless. Therefore, we do not recommend charging a large battery
with this unit.
NOTE: The maintain mode technology utilized in Schumacher’s
maintainers allows you to safely charge and maintain a healthy battery
for extended periods of time. However, problems with your battery,
electrical problems in your vehicle, improper connections or other
unanticipated conditions could cause excessive current draws, as
such, occasionally monitoring your battery and the charging process is
recommended.

given. The times given are for batteries with a 50% charge prior to
recharging. Add more time for severely discharged batteries.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS14.
After use and before performing maintenance, unplug and 14.1
disconnect the battery charger (see sections 6, 7 and 8).
Use a dry cloth to wipe all battery corrosion and other dirt or oil 14.2
from the battery clips, cords, and the charger case.
Ensure that all of the charger components are in place and in good 14.3
working condition, for example, the plastic boots on the battery clips.
Servicing does not require opening the unit, as there are no user-14.4
serviceable parts.
All other servicing should be performed by qualied service personnel.14.5

MOVING AND STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS15.
Store the charger unplugged, in an upright position. The cord will 15.1
still conduct electricity until it is unplugged from the outlet.
Store inside, in a cool, dry place (unless you’re using an on-board 15.2
Marine Charger).
Do not store the clips clipped together, on or around metal, or 15.3
clipped to cables.
If the charger is moved around the shop or transported to another location, 15.4
take care to avoid/prevent damage to the cords, clips and charger. Failure
to do so could result in personal injury or property damage.

BEFORE RETURNING FOR REPAIRS17.
When a charging problem arises, make certain that the battery 17.1
is capable of accepting a normal charge. Double check all
connections, the AC outlet for a full 120-volts, the charger clips for
correct polarity and the quality of the connections from the cables
to the clips and from the clips to the battery system. The clips must
be clean.
When a battery is very cold, partially charged or sulfated, it will not 17.2
draw the full rated amperes from the charger. It is both dangerous
and damaging to a battery to force higher amperage into it than it
can effectively use in recharging.
When an UNKNOWN OPERATING PROBLEM arises, please read 17.3
the complete manual and call the customer service number for
information that will usually eliminate the need for return.

RIESGO DE GASES EXPLOSIVOS.
RESULTA PELIGROSO TRABAJAR EN FORMA 1.10
CERCANA A UNA BATERÍA DE PLOMO. LAS BATERÍAS
GENERAN GASES EXPLOSIVOS DURANTE SU
NORMAL FUNCIONAMIENTO. POR ESTE MOTIVO,
RESULTA DE SUMA IMPORTANCIA QUE SIGA LAS
INSTRUCCIONES CADA VEZ QUE UTILIZA EL CARGADOR.
Para reducir el riesgo de explosión de una batería, siga estas 1.11
instrucciones y aquellas publicadas por el fabricante de la batería
y por el fabricante de cualquier equipo que intente utilizar en la
proximidad de la batería. Revise las pautas de precaución en
estos productos y en el motor.
Este cargador está equipado con partes, tales como, interruptores 1.12
y cortacircuitos, que tienden a originar chispas y cortos. Si se
utiliza en la cochera, utilice el cargador 18 pulgadas (45.72) o más
del nivel del suelo.
PRECAUCIONES PERSONALES2.

NUNCA fume o permita la presencia de chispas o 2.1
llamas en la proximidad de una batería o motor.
No utilice elementos personales de metal tales 2.2
como anillos, pulseras, collares y relojes al trabajar con
una batería de plomo-ácido. Una batería de plomo-ácido puede
producir una corriente de cortocircuito lo sucientemente elevada
como para soldar un anillo o provocar efectos similares sobre el
metal, causando una quemadura de gravedad.
Tenga especial cuidado para reducir el riesgo de dejar caer una 2.3
herramienta de metal sobre la batería. Esto podría provocar
chispas o un cortocircuito en la batería o en cualquier otra pieza
eléctrica que podría provocar una explosión.
Utilice este cargador solamente para cargar baterías de PLOMO-2.4
ÁCIDO. Este cargador no está destinado a suministrar energía
a sistemas eléctricos de baja tensión más que en una aplicación
de un motor de arranque. No utilice este cargador de batería para
cargar baterías de pila seca que por lo general se utilizan con

Considere la idea de que alguna persona se encuentre cerca 2.7
suyo para poder ayudarlo cuando trabaje en forma cercana a una
batería de plomo-ácido.
Cuente con una gran cantidad de agua potable y jabón a mano en 2.8
caso de que el ácido de la batería tenga contacto con su piel, ropa
u ojos.
Utilice protección visual y corporal completa, incluyendo gafas de 2.9
seguridad y prendas de protección. Evite tocar sus ojos mientras
trabaje en forma cercana a la batería.
Si el ácido de la batería tiene contacto con su piel o su ropa, lave 2.10
de inmediato el área afectada con agua y jabón. En caso de que
ingrese ácido en un ojo, sumerja el mismo de inmediato bajo agua
potable corriente por al menos 10 minutos y obtenga atención
médica en forma inmediata.
Si el ácido de la batería es accidentalmente ingerido, se 2.11
recomienda beber leche, clara de huevo o agua. NO provoque
vómito. Busque ayuda médica de inmediato.
PREPARACIÓN PARA LA CARGA 3.
RIESGO DE CONTACTO CON EL ÁCIDO

BATERÍA ES UN ÁCIDO SULFÚRICO

Si resulta necesario extraer la batería 3.1
del vehículo para cargarla, siempre retire el
terminal con descarga a tierra en primer lugar. Asegúrese de que

Agregue agua destilada a cada pila hasta que el ácido de la 3.4
batería alcance el nivel especicado por el fabricante de la
batería. No provoque derrames. En lo que concierne a baterías
que no cuentan con tapas extraíbles para pilas, tales como
baterías de plomo-ácido reguladas por válvulas (VRLA, por sus
siglas en inglés), siga cuidadosamente las instrucciones de
recarga del fabricante.
Lea, comprenda y siga todas las instrucciones para el cargador, 3.5
la batería, el vehículo y cualquier equipo que se utilice cerca de la
batería y el cargador. Controle todas las precauciones especícas
establecidas por el fabricante de la batería al realizar la carga, así
también como los índices de carga recomendados.

Ubique los cables de C.A. y C.C. para reducir el riesgo de daños 6.1
a la cubierta, a la puerta y a las piezas móviles o calientes del
motor. NOTA: Si es necesario cerrar el cofre durante el proceso
de carga, asegúrese que el cofre no toque parte metálica de la
batería o pele los cables.
Manténgase alejado de las paletas del ventilador, correas, poleas 6.2
y otras piezas que podrían provocar lesiones.
Verique la polaridad de los bornes de la batería. El borne 6.3
POSITIVO (POS, P, +) de la batería generalmente posee un
diámetro mayor al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -).
Determine qué borne de la batería hace descarga a tierra (se 6.4
encuentra conectado) con el chasis. Si el borne negativo hace
descarga a tierra con el chasis (como en la mayor parte de los
vehículos), ver el paso 6.5. Si el borne positivo hace descarga a
tierra con el chasis, ver el paso 6.6.
En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne negativo, conecte 6.5
el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO) del cargador de batería al borne
POSITIVO (POS, P, +) sin descarga a tierra de la batería. Conecte
el gancho NEGATIVO (NEGRO) al chasis del vehículo o al bloque
motor alejado de la batería. No conecte el gancho al carburador,
líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a una pieza
metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor.

En un vehículo con descarga a tierra por borne positivo, conecte 6.6
el gancho NEGATIVO (NEGRO) del cargador de batería al
borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -) sin descarga a tierra de la batería.
Conecte el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO) al chasis del vehículo o
al bloque motor alejado de la batería. No conecte al carburador,
líneas de combustible o cuerpos metálicos. Conecte a una pieza
metálica de calibre grueso del marco o del bloque motor.
Conecte el condón de alimentación del cargador de CA al 6.7
tomacorriente.
Al desconectar el cargador, apague todos los interruptores, 6.8
desconecte el cable de C.A., retire el gancho del chasis del vehículo
y luego retire el gancho del terminal perteneciente a la batería.

Verique la polaridad de los bornes de la batería. El borne 7.1
POSITIVO (POS, P, +) de la batería generalmente posee un
diámetro mayor al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -).
Sujete al menos un cable aislado de batería de 24 pulgadas 7.2
(61 cm) de largo con calibre 6 [13 mm2] según el Calibre
americano de cables (AWG, por sus siglas en inglés) al borne
NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -) de la batería.
Conecte el gancho POSITIVO (ROJO) del cargador al borne 7.3
POSITIVO (POS, P, +) de la batería.
Ubíquese junto con el extremo libre del cable que previamente 7.4
sujetó al borne NEGATIVO (NEG, N, -) de la batería a la mayor
distancia posible de la batería. Luego conecte el gancho
NEGATIVO (NEGRO) del cargador al extremo libre del cable.

NOTA: Este cargador está equipado con un auto-recticador. Este
no permitirá paso de corriente si las pinzas de la batería no están
conectadas en forma correcta y el LED CONECTADA encendido. A
diferencia de otros cargadores tradicionales, las pinzas no harán corto
si se juntan una con otra.
Uso de Conectores de Cables de Conexión Rápida
Conecte cualquiera de los dos juegos de cables de salida al cargador.
Asegúrese de colocar el cargador sobre una supercie seca y no
inamable como metal o concreto.
NOTA: Nunca conecte la pinza y las terminales de los conectores de
argolla juntos, para aplicarlo de otra forma, tal como batería externa u
otra fuente de poder de carga, o para alargar el cable de salida, esto
ocasionará polaridad invertida o sobrecarga.
Abrazaderas de la Batería
Conecte el juego de cable con abrazaderas de batería al cargador.
Siga las instrucciones de seguridad en las secciones 6 y 7 para
conectar las abrazaderas de salida a la batería.
Terminales de Tipo Anillo
Los conectores tipo anillo conectan la batería de manera permanente,
permitiendo un acceso fácil para cargar rápidamente su batería. Esta
aplicación es adecuada para motocicletas, cortadoras de césped,
vehículos todo terreno y vehículos de nieve. Para conectarla de
manera permanente a la batería, aoje y retire cada tuerca de los
pernos en los terminales de la batería. Conecte el anillo conector del
anillo rojo positivo al terminal de batería positivo (POS, P, +). Conecte

el anillo conector del anillo negro negativo al terminal de batería
negativo (NEG, N, -). Vuelva a colocar las tuercas y apriételas para
asegurar la batería. Asegúrese de mantener ambos cables y enchufe
lejos de supercies calientes y bordes alados. Conecte el juego de
cable con abrazaderas de batería al cargador. Revise periódicamente
los anillos conectores para esegurar una conexión apropiada.
Carga anulada
Si no se puede completar la carga normalmente, la carga se anulará.
Cuando se anule la carga, la salida del cargador se apagará y se
ilumina el LED CARGANDO . Para reiniciar después de que
se anula la carga puede desconectar la batería o desenchufar el
cargador.
Modo de desulfatación
Si se deja la batería sin cargar por un largo tiempo se puede sulfatar
y no aceptar una carga normal. Si el cargador detecta una batería
sulfatada cambiará a un modo especial de funcionamiento diseñado
para estas baterías.
Finalización de la carga
La nalización de la carga se indica con el LED CARGADO .
Cuando se enciende, el cargador ha dejado de cargar y pasó al Modo
de funcionamiento de mantenimiento.
Modo de mantenimiento (Monitoreo a modo de ote)
Cuando el LED CARGADO se enciende, el cargador ha
comenzado el Modo de mantenimiento. En este modo el cargador
mantiene la batería totalmente cargada mediante una pequeña
corriente cuando corresponda. Si el cargador tiene que proveer
la máxima corriente de mantenimiento por un período de 12 horas
contínuas, este se trasladará a el modo de Abort Mode (consultése
la sección de Carga Rechazada). Esto se debe principalmente a que
hay una fuga en la batería o la misma está en malas condiciones.
Asegúrese que no exista algo sobre la batería. Si existe, retírela. De lo
contario, pida que se revise la batería o sea reemplazada.
Mantenimiento de una batería
El Modelo Schumacher XM1-5 es un mantenedor de carga de la
batería, y mantiene tanto baterías de 6 y 12 voltios, manteniéndolas
a plena carga. Puede cargar baterías pequeñas y mantener las
pequeñas y grandes cargadas. Si se requiere mantener una batería
grande completamente cargada, utilice correctamente el cargador

de baterías. Recuerde que si utiliza el cargador de batería para
cargar una batería grande, tal como batería marina de ciclo profundo,
que no estaba totalmente cargada, la batería puede perder parte
su capacidad. Esto haría que la batería no mantuviera la carga y
se volva inservible. Por lo tanto, no se recomienda la carga de una
batería grande con esta unidad.
NOTA: La tecnología utilizada en los mantenedores Schumacher le
permite cargar de manera segura y mantener una batería en buen
estado durante largo tiempo. Sin embargo, los problemas con la
batería, problemas eléctricos en su vehículo, conexiones inadecuadas

CÁLCULO DE TIEMPO DE CARGA13.
Encuentre el índice de su batería en el gráco a continuación y
observe el tiempo de carga. Los tiempos que se informan son para
baterías con un 50% de carga antes de volver a cargar. Agregue más
tiempo para las baterías que se descargaron varias veces.

INSTRUCCIONES DE MANTENIMIENTO14.
Después de usar y antes de realizar mantenimiento, desenchufe y 14.1
desconecte el cargador de la batería (ver secciones 6, 7 y 8).
Utilice un paño seco para limpiar la corrosión de toda la batería 14.2
y otra suciedad o aceite de las pinzas de la batería, cables y
carcasa del cargador.
Asegúrese de que todas las piezas del cargador estén bien 14.3
instaladas y en buenas condiciones para su función, por ejemplo,
los protectores de plástico de las pinzas de la batería.
Para realizar mantenimiento no es necesario abrir la unidad, ya 14.4
que no existen piezas a las cuales puede realizarle mantenimiento
el usuario.
Cualquier otro servicio debe realizarse por personal calicado en 14.5
el ramo.
INSTRUCCIONES PARA EL MANEJO Y ALMACENAMIENTO15.
Guarde el cargador desenchufado en posición vertical. El cable 15.1
seguirá conduciendo electricidad hasta que se desenchufe del toma.
Almacene en el interior, en un lugar fresco y seco (a menos que 15.2
esté utilizando un cargador marino integrado).
No guarde las pinzas haciendo contacto, ni con metal alguno, ni 15.3
sujetos a los cables.
Si el cargador se mueve alrededor del taller o se transporta a 15.4
otra localidad, trate de evitar/prevenir daño a los cables,pinzas
y al cargador. El ignorar estas recomendaciones, podría llegar a
causarle daños personales o de inmueble.

Cuando surja un problema de carga, asegúrese de que la batería 17.1
puede recibir una carga normal. Revise las conexiones doble vez,
el toma de CA para obtener 120-volts completos, los ganchos
del cargador para lograr una polaridad correcta y la calidad de
las conexiones de los cables a los ganchos y de los ganchos al
sistema de la batería. Los ganchos deben estar limpios.
Cuando la batería está muy fría, parcialmente cargada o sulfatada 17.2
no obtendrá todo el índice de amperes del cargador. Es peligroso
y perjudicial para la batería forzar un amperaje mayor al que
puede utilizar efectivamente en una recarga.
