USING THE SCHUMACHER EC-4000-USB EMERGENCY
CAR STARTER AS A 12V DC POWER SOURCE
The Emergency Car Starter has a 12V DC accessory outlet located
behind the right cap. This port has a positive center terminal. Most
12V DC accessories have this conguration. Do not use the accessory if it does not have a positive center pin. NEVER plug the
Emergency Car Starter’s male adaptor plug into the 12V accessory
outlet on the right side of the Emergency Car Starter.
USING THE EMERGENCY CAR STARTER AS A USB
POWER SOURCE
The Emergency Car Starter has a 5V DC USB power outlet located
on the back of the case. This USB outlet can power devices that
require less than 500mA of power. NEVER plug this USB outlet
directly into a computer USB outlet or damage to both devices
could result.
To activate the USB power port, depress the CHARGE CAR BAT-
TERY switch on the front of the unit. When nished using the USB
power port, press the CHARGE CAR BATTERY switch to the OFF
position (button up) before storing the EC-4000-USB.
STARTING A VEHICLE WITH A WEAK BATTERY:
Important: Turn your ignition key, lights, radio, etc., to OFF posi-
tion before connecting the Emergency Car Starter, as it will drain
the EC-4000-USB’s power:
1. With the CHARGE CAR BATTERY button in the OFF position
(button up), connect the EC-4000-USB’s male plug to the
vehicle’s 12V DC accessory outlet.
2
2. The INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED and the LED on
the starter’s male plug should illuminate red. If these LEDs
do not light, turn the car ignition key to the Accessory (ACC)
position. If the LEDs still do not light, check for a faulty fuse
in the male plug or in the vehicle’s fuse panel. Replace with
the same size and amp rating.
3. Depress the CHARGE CAR BATTERY button to begin the
charging cycle. The CAR BATTERY CHARGING LED will illuminate red and the INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED
will turn off. If the radio, fan, interior lights or headlights come
on, TURN THEM OFF IMMEDIATELY.
4. Charge for at least 10 minutes, or until the green LED lights,
before trying to start the car. Attempt to start the car but if the
car only clicks or turns over slowly, continue to charge the car
until the CAR BATTERY CHARGING LED illuminates green
or a total charging time of 20 minutes has been reached. At
this time attempt a second car start.
5. When the car starts, press the CHARGE CAR BATTERY
switch to the OFF position (button up).
6. Disconnect the male plug from the vehicle’s 12V DC accessory
outlet.
7. Recharge the Emergency Car Starter as soon as possible.

RECHARGING THE EMERGENCY CAR STARTER
The EC-4000-USB comes uncharged. We recommend you charge
it immediately. Recharge after every use and every month if not
used. There are two ways to recharge:
A. Charging the EC-4000-USB’s internal battery with the AC
wall charger:
1. Plug the AC wall charger’s adaptor into the charger recep-
tacle on the back of the starter.
2. Plug the wall charger into a 120V AC electrical wall outlet.
The INTERNAL BATTERY CHARGING LED will illuminate
red.
3. Wait 12 hours when charging for the rst time. Subsequent
charges will be complete when the INTERNAL BATTERY
CHARGING LED illuminates green. Note: The AC wall
charger does NOT automatically shut off. Monitor the charge
time and be sure to disconnect the rear charger jack when
nished recharging the EC-4000-USB.
B. Charging the Emergency Car Starter in the vehicle:
1. After the vehicle is running and the CHARGE CAR BATTERY
switch is in the OFF position (button up), simply plug the
EC-4000-USB’s 12V DC male adaptor plug into the vehicle’s
12V DC accessory outlet. When the INTERNAL BATTERY
CHARGING LED glows, the unit is being recharged by
the vehicle. Do not leave the EC-4000-USB connected to
the vehicle’s 12V DC accessory outlet when the vehicle’s
engine is NOT running; the EC-4000-USB may discharge the
vehicle’s battery.
