Scala SC 29 User guide

Classic waterproof clinical thermometer
Special features
The SC 29 flex is a waterproof, digital fever thermometer with a flexible measuring tip. It displays the highest temperature within 10 seconds. It has a memory function to store the last measured value. A fever alarm beeps when the temperature measured exceeds 37.5°.
Safety information
children. Please keep the thermometer and its batteries out of the reach of small children. If the battery or other parts are swallowed you should seek medical help immediately. The enclosed batteries may not be recharged or reactivated by other methods, may not be dismantled, thrown into fires or short-circuited.
Protect the SC 29 flex from direct sunshine and temperatures above 50°C. Never drop the SC 29 flex, do not bend or open it (with the exception of the battery
compartment for battery replacement).
Microbial contamination
Because a hundred percent disinfection is not possible under conditions at home, it is urgently recommended that every patient should use their own fever thermometer.
Operating manual
Press the I/O button to switch on. A short signal tone shows that the device is in the "switched on" mode. A segment test takes place simultaneously (checks all display segments). After this, if the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is less than 32°C, the display
shows an "L“ and "°C“. After around one second, the "°C“ starts to blink. The „L“ stands for low (less than
32°C). The current temperature is continuously displayed during measurement, and the "°C" blinks during the entire measurement time. The measurement is completed after around 10 seconds and "°C" stops blinking. After the measurement is completed, the temperature value measured remains in the display until the SC 29 flex is switched off. To turn the device off after use, press the I/O button briefly. The signal tone will again be sounded. If the device is not switched off, a signal tone is sounded after around 3 minutes and the device then switches off automatically.
Fever alarm
If the temperature measured is 37.5°C or higher, the fever alarm beeps (short double beeps for about 4 seconds) and the LC display flashes.
Display of last measured value
If you keep the I/O button pressed for longer than three seconds, the last measured value will be shown in the display. As soon as you release the I/O button, the thermometer returns to measurement mode.
Switches the display from °C to ° F and from °F to °C, resp.
Centigrade or Fahrenheit mode can be switched within the first 3 seconds by pressing and holding the I/0 button.

Measured value deviation
The measured temperatures will always deviate, depending on the measurement location. This is normal, and caused by deviations in temperature distribution on the human body. You could, for example, measure a rectal temperature of 36.5°C, an oral temperature of 36.0°C and an underarm value of 35.5°C.
Measurement locations
In the mouth (oral)
Small temperature variations in the mouth between measurements are normal. These are caused by varying temperature distribution within the mouth. Try to place the thermometer in one of the two heat pockets under the tongue, to the left and right of the tongue root. The measurement sensor must have good contact with the tissue. The subject should close the mouth and breathe normally through the nose so that the measured result is not affected by breathed air. Measuring period: approx. 10 seconds.
In the anus (rectal)
This is the most accurate method. It is particularly suitable for infants and small children. Carefully guide the tip of the thermometer approximately 1 cm into the anus. Measuring period: approx. 10 seconds.
Under the arm (axillary)
From a medical viewpoint this type of measurement leads to inaccurate values. It is therefore unsuitable for carrying out exact measurements.
Changing the battery
As soon as the symbol appears in the display, the battery has run out and requires replacement. Always replace the discharged battery with one of the same type (LR 41 or AG3). To do this, proceed as follows: Unlock the screw at the rear side of the thermometer. Pull the transparent part from the thermometer. Now pull carefull the flexible measuring point from the thermometer body.
ATTENTION: Remove the flexible measuring point not longer as 2 cm from the thermometer body. Otherwise you damage the connection wires.
Remove the used battery with the help of a pointed object (pincers, small screwdriver etc.) and put the new battery in. Please make sure it is the right way round. You can purchase batteries from jewellers or electrical shops.
Measurement checks
Checking the accuracy of the SC 29 flex is not necessary in most cases. If you require a measurement check (at your expense), please send the SC 29 flex to our customer service address. Please make sure it is well-packaged and that the correct postage stamps are applied.
Cleaning and disinfection
Please only use an alcohol pad. Alcohol pads can be purchased from any dispensing chemist. We recommend the use of Mucocit-F2000 or HelipurHplus to disinfect the thermometer when it is being used in medical facilities. Both are effective against all hospital-typical pathogens and can be purchased from any dispensing chemist.
Guarantee
We give a guarantee period of 2 years from the date of purchase. We guarantee perfect design of this article. We will rectify all material or manufacturing errors during the guarantee period. If, contrary to expectations, defects are found, please send the device back to our customer service department. Please enclose the proof of purchase and a description of the defect so that the problem can be rectified as soon as possible. The guarantee excludes damages caused by improper handling, related to the battery or to the packaging.
Disposal note
The disposal of batteries is regulated. Spent batteries are collected at collection points provided by battery dealers and the communities. Dispose of the thermometer monitor as
prescribed. i.e., at a collection point for electrical scrap. Dispose of the thermometer monitor as prescribed. i.e., at a collection point for electrical scrap.
