PRODUCT REFERENCE
Please note: this manual is for the Silver edition of the Mi4, pre-July 2013.
If you have the Black, July 2013 edition of the Mi4, please go to our website and download the manual for that product.
e Mi4 can use an optional Micro SD card installed for extra storage. It will accept a Micro SD
card of up to 32 GB in size.
1. Please note the proper positioning of the SD card for insertion. With the LCD screen of the
Mi4 facing UP, the SD card will be inserted with the Gold connectors facing UP. See the
photo below.
2. Gently place the SD card, Gold connectors UP, into the SD card slot.
3. Gently push the SD card into place. e card will click into place when properly inserted. If
there is any resistance, remove the card and try again.
4. To remove the card, press gently on the card, and it will click out.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST USE
Please charge fully before use. Please use only the adapter that was included with your device.
Do not use other adapters, as they may damange your device.
1. Be sure that the device is OFF.
2. Plug USB cable into device rst.
3. Plug the other end into the wall adapter.
4. Plug the adapter into your power outlet. Please let the device charge for several hours before
your rst use.
NEEDED FILES
No other les are needed to use this device. No device drivers are needed for Windows or Mac
use.
Before you start recording, you’ll want to make sure the time and date
are set properly on your Mi4.
1. Set the Record Switch to SAVE.
2. Set the Power Switch to ON. is will let the system Power On.
3. Press the PLAY button and the recorder will initialize.
4. You should see MUSIC MODE appear on your screen. If not, hold

the M button until the MODES menu appears.
5. Use the Up and Down buttons on the le side to cycle through the
menu until you see SETTING MODE.
6. At SETTING MODE, press M. You will now see the dierent
settings that can be adjusted.
7. With the Up and Down buttons, cycle until you see the SYSTEM
TIME option.
8. Press the M button to show the system time.
9. Press the V button, and the Year will start to blink.
10. Use the UP DOWN arrows to set the year.
11. Press V to move to the Month and use the UP DOWN arrows
to adjust. Press V to move to the day, and so on, until you have
changed the Date and Time.
12. To nish, press the M button.
13. Your recorder is now set to the correct Date and Time.
NOTE: You must press M to save your new Time Settings, or the
recorder will use the previous system time.
e menu will go back to a previous screen if you do not press a
button within a few seconds.
When you press a button, if the device light comes on but nothing else
happens, press that same button again. Your rst press just turned on
the light.

VOICE ACTIVATION MODE
Voice Activation Recording can be turned on and o.
1. In PLAY mode, press the M button until you see SETTING
MODE.
2. Press M to enter Setting Mode.
3. Cycle over to Select VOR. Press M.
4. You can now turn Voice Activation ON (OPEN) or OFF
You can adjust how long the backlight stays on with this setting. It can
be set from 0 - 30.
Set up to 30 seconds, and the backlight will turn o aer that number.
Set to 0, and the backlight will remain on all the time. Note that this
will aect your battery life.
1. In PLAY mode, press the M button until you see SETTING

2. Press M to enter Setting Mode.
3. Cycle over to Backlight. Press M.
4. Cycle to the amount of seconds you want the backlight to stay on.
e OFF TIMER allows you to set how long the Mi4 will remain on
when there is no activity. When the Mi4 shuts o, you can restart it by
holding the PLAY button.
You can set the POWER OFF TIMER to turn the device o aer 5 55 minutes of inactivity.

1. In PLAY mode, press the M button until you see SETTING

2. Press M to enter Setting Mode.
3. Cycle over to Power O. Press M.
4. Cycle over to O Timer. Press M.
5. Cycle to the amount of time you want your Mi4 to stay on when
there is no activity. Choose from 5 - 55 minutes.
e Sleep Time setting lets you choose how long your Mi4 stays on
before automatically shutting o, so you can listen to your les when
you go to bed. You can set this from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
1. In PLAY mode, press the M button until you see SETTING
MODE.
2. Press M to enter Setting Mode.

4. Cycle over to Sleep Time. Press M.
5. Cycle to the amount of minutes you want the Mi4 to stay on until
it automatically shuts o while you listen to your les. You can set
this from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
With Auto Record, you can set the Mi4 to automatically start
recording on a particular date and time, and the end at a particular
date and time.
You will rst set the Start Time. en the End Time. And nally turn
Auto Record ON.

2. Press M to enter Setting Mode.
3. Cycle over to Auto Record. Press M.
4. Cycle down to Start Time. Press M.
5. You should see the Date and Time. Press the V Button and the
Year will start blinking.
6. Adjust the Year by using the UP DOWN arrows.
7. Press V to move over to the Month.
8. Continue to use the UP DOWN arrows and the V button to
advance through the Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minutes and
Seconds for the START TIME.
9. When you have the correct Start Time, press M to go back to the
Auto Record choices.
10. Now, cycle to END TIME. Press M.
11. Adjust the End Time date and time as you did above.
12. Press M when you are done entering the End Time.
In Playback Mode, while Paused, there are several options available
to you. You can choose a le or folder for playback, or choose the
Internal Memory or SD card.
You can also Delete Files from this menu.
While File Maintenance is possible on the Mi4, we recommend that

you use your computer to delete les.
By using your computer, you can copy and back up your les before
deleting any from the device. Once deleted from the device, there is no
way to recover those les.
In Playback Mode, while Playing Voice and MP3 les, there are
several options available to you. Press M to access your options during
Playback.
e Equalizer - this option is only available in MUSIC Mode, while
playing MP3 les.

ere are several EQ settings you can use for playback of your MP3
les. Adjust according to your tastes:
Rock, Pop, Classic, So, Jazz, DBB - Base and Natural / Normal.
You can REPEAT a le or a folder during playback. is is a great
option for MP3 les. You can choose a particular folder of music, or
randomize the playback for a mix of music.
Select Repeat for your choices.
Your Repeat Options include:

Normal - normal playback mode with no repeat. is is the default
setting.
One - repeat one le. is will repeat 5 times.
Folder / Root - choose a folder to repeat.
All - Repeat play of all les.
Random - is will mix up the playback order of your les.
1. Device must be OFF before connecting to your PC.
2. Connect USB cable to watch rst.
3. Connect other end of USB cable to your PC using USB port directly on PC. Note: A USB
hub may cause your device to not work properly.
4. Please wait until Windows recognizes your device. is may take several seconds. Note: the
rst time you connect your device, Windows may install standard drivers. is is normal.
5. Access your device as you would any standard Flash Drive.
6. COPY your les from the device to a folder on your PC.
7. You may now highlight and DELETE the les from your device.
8. Be sure to properly EJECT your device from Windows before unplugging it.
MAC OS X - RETRIEVE YOUR FILES
1. Device must be OFF before connecting to your Mac.
2. Connect USB cable to watch rst.
3. Connect other end of USB cable to your Mac using USB port directly on Mac. Note: A USB
hub may cause your device to not work properly.
4. Please wait until Mac recognizes your device. is may take several seconds. It will mount as
a Device in your FINDER.
5. Access device as you would any standard FLASH DRIVE.
6. SPECIAL NOTES TO MAC USERS!
7. To properly save your les to your Mac, MOVE your les, rather than copy.
8. Create a folder on your Mac.
9. Highlight the les on the device.
10. CMD CLICK and drag the les to your folder. Let go and choose MOVE.
11. To properly empty your device on Mac, be sure to Empty your Trash Can before ejecting the
device.
12. Be sure to properly EJECT your device from Mac before unplugging it.
