Installation Location
•
We recommend that this air conditioner be installed properly by
qualified installation technicians in accordance with the Installation
Instructions provided with the unit.
•
Before installation, check that the voltage of the electric supply in your
home or office is the same as the voltage shown on the nameplate.
•
Do not install this air conditioner where there are fumes or flammable
gases, or in an extremely humid space such as a greenhouse.
•
Do not install the air conditioner where excessively high heatgenerating objects are placed.
Electrical Requirements
1. All wiring must conform to the local electrical codes. Consult your
dealer or a qualified electrician for details.
2. Each unit must be properly grounded with a ground (or earth) wire or
through the supply wiring.
3. Wiring must be done by a qualified electrician.

Read this Instruction Manual carefully before using this air conditioner.
If you still have any difficulties or problems, consult your dealer for

This air conditioner is designed to give you comfortable room
conditions. Use this only for its intended purpose as described in this
Instruction Manual.

Never use or store gasoline or other flammable vapor or liquid near the
air
conditioner – it is very dangerous.
•
Never use an extension code with this air conditoner.
•
Do not turn the air conditioner on and off from the power mains switch.
Use the mode selector switch.
•
Do not stick anything into the air outlet of the unit. This is dangerous
because the fan is rotating at high speed.
•
Do not let children play with the air conditioner.
•
Do not cool or heat the room too much if babies or invalids are present.

Thermostat
Control The thermostat knob is used to control the room temperature. The unit
automatically cycles on and off to maintain room temperature.
A comfortable temperature will be maintained in most rooms when the
control is set to about intermediate range.
Mode Selector HI HEAT provides heating with high fan speed operation.
LOW HEAT provides heating with low fan speed operation.
OFF setting stops heating or cooling operation. However, power remains
connected to the unit Hi FAN/Lo FAN provides fan operation without
cooling or heating.
HI COOL provides cooling with high fan speed operation.
LO COOL provides cooling with low fan speed operation.

2. Set the thermostat to the desired position. (Refer to the setting
temperature guide above.)

The above temperatures are provided for reference only, and may differ
from the actual temperature of the room.
To stop the air conditioner, set the mode selector to OFF position.
To restart the air conditioner, set the mode selector to desired position.
If the unit is turned off during cooling and heating, DO NOT restart it
immediately, as this can damage it. Wait at least three minutes before
starting

If you notice that your air conditioner is not cooling as it should, it may
be that ice has formed on the cooling coils. The ice blocks air flow and
stops the unit from cooling the room. This “freezing up” is a temporary
condition that most often occurs at night when the Thermostat is set on
the coldest setting and the Selector is set on LOW COOL.
To correct the condition set the Selector at (H or L) FAN or HIGH COOL
with the Thermostat with turning the thermostat knob to the opposite
direction from ”COOLER”.

Other Features
Ventilation Control The Vent Control is located behind the front grille.
Fan Switch The Fan Switch is located under the control panel.
To Adjust the Air Direction
When set at CLOSE, only the air inside the room
can be circulated and conditioned. When set at OPEN,
some indoor air can be exhausted from the room.
To reach it, you need to remove the front grille,
knobs and the control panel.
Remove the front grille to adjust the louvers side-to-side.

The direction of the heated or cooled air may be adjusted by removing
and turning the louvers around.
To change the louver direction, remove the front grille and 1 louver screw that
hold the louvers in place. Turn the louver section 180° (end for end), replace the
screws and replace the front grille. The textured face of the louver section must
be facing toward the room side.

Care and Cleaning
Front Grille & Wall Case Wash the front grille and wall case finish with mild soap or detergent and
lukewarm water.
Control Panel The control panel is shipped with a protective plastic film. This film can be
left on or removed. To clean, use a damp cloth and mild detergent.
Outdoor Coil The coil on the outdoor side of the unit should be checked periodically and
cleaned if clogged with dirt or soot from the atmosphere. If extremely dirty,
it may need to be professionally steam cleaned.

In some installations, dirt or other foreign matter may be blown into the
from the outside and settle in the base pan (the bottom of the unit).
Check the base pan periodically and clean it out, if necessary.
The front grille can be removal for more through cleaning or to make the
model and serial numbers accessible.
The air filter behind the front grille should be checked and cleaned at least
every 30 days or more often if necessary.
Clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner to remover light dust. It can also be
washed in warm, soapy water.
Condenser Coils The coils on the weather side of the air conditioner should be checked
regularly. If they are clogged with dirt or soot they may be professionally
steam cleaned, a service available through your Sanyo service outlet.

Tips for Energy Saving

Block the air intake and outlet of the unit. If they are obstructed, the
unit will not work well, and may be damaged.

Let direct sunlight into the room. Use sunshades, blinds or curtains. If
the walls and ceiling of the room are warmed by the sun, it will take
longer to cool the room.

Keep the air filter clean. (Refer to “Care and Cleaning”.)
A clogged filter will impair the performance of the unit.

To prevent conditioned air from escaping, keep windows, doors and any
other openings closed.

Troubleshooting

Not plugged in. Plug may have been bumped loose by vacuum cleaner or
furniture.
•
If plugged in, fuse could have blown or circuit breaker may have been tripped.
•
Curtains, blinds or furniture blocking front of air conditioner will restrict air
flow.
•
Thermostat Control may not be set high or low enough. Also, when Fan Switch
is at CYCLE, the temperature in the room will vary more than when it’s at
CONTINUOUS. Turn knob to another number. Highest setting should provide
maximum cooling. The lowest setting should provide maximum heating.
•
Air filter dirty, should be cleaned at least every 30 days.
•
Room may have been very hot or cold when air conditioner was first turned on.
Allow time for it to cool down or warm up.
•
Conditioned air may be escaping through open furnace floor registers and cold
air returns.
•
Cooling coils have iced up. To melt ice, set the Fan at high speed and the
Thermostat Control to a lower number.
•
Air conditioner is not installed level. Install level or tilt slightly toward the
outside.
•
Excess water may overflow in extremely hot and humid weather.
This is normal.
NOISY OPERATION
•
When compressor or fan switches on and off, a metallic knock may be heard.
This is normal.
•
Something is hitting or vibrating inside the cabinet. Turn off air conditioner and
consult your dealer.
