Features and Design

This Multimedia Projector is designed with the most advanced technology for portability, durability, and ease of use. This projector utilizes built-in multimedia features, a palette of 16.77 million colors, and matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) technology.

◆ Compatibility

The projector widely accepts various video and computer input signals including; Computers, 6 Color systems, Component video, S-video, RGB scart and HDMI.

◆ Simple Computer System Setting

The projector has the Multi-scan system to conform to almost all computer output signals quickly. (See page

33.)

◆ Multilanguage Menu Display

Operation menu is available in; English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. (See page 41.)

◆ Power Management

The Power management function reduces power consumption and maintain the lamp life. (See page 43.)

◆ Selectable Setting Position

Mounting function provides proper image position (up/down and left/right) depending on the setting position of the projector such as ceiling mounting or wallhung. (See page 42)

◆ Interlace Progressive Conversion

High-quality picture is available with this technology which converts interlace signal into progressive signal. (See page 29.)

◆ My Picture

A projected image can be captured and used for the starting display of the projector with the Capture function. You can also display the captured image whenever you want to with the MY PICTURE (MY-P) button on the remote control. (See page 11, 21, 42.)

◆ Lamp Mode

Brightness of the projection lamp can be changed by setting. The projector has the function to adjust the brightness according to an input signal for the best suited image. (See page 29,39.)

◆ Short Zoom Lens

This projector is equipped with Short Zoom Lens which allows you to enjoy 100" screen size in range of 9.8' (3.0m) to 13.1' (4.0m).

◆ Lens Shift

The Lens Shift function gives you less limitation in positioning the projector. You can use it at desired places without a distorted image.

◆ 16 : 9 Wide Screen

The projector is equipped with LCD panels (1280 x 720 resolution) of 16 : 9 ratio so that you can project the image from component video signal such as a DVD player and high definition TV in a full screen.

◆ Advanced Picture Adjustment

The projector provides additional function to reproduce professional like fine pictures. Using the function, details of the picture can be adjusted.

◆ Wide Selection of Image Levels

You can select an ideal image level suitable for the surroundings or your desired picture quality. (See page 27,37.) 4 different your choices of images can also be stored. (See page 28-29,38-39.)

◆ High Definition Multimedia Interface

◆ Keystone Adjustment

Keystone distortion function is provided to correct distortion of the projected image allowing you to use the projector without locational constraints. (See page 21 and

The projector is equipped with HDMI terminal for connecting HDMI output from a video equipment. Simple connection with digital equipment is offered through this terminal.

Before operating this projector, read this manual thoroughly and operate the projector properly. This projector provides many convenient features and functions. Operating the projector properly enables you to manage those features and maintains it in better condition for a considerable time. Improper operation may result in not only shortening the product-life, but also malfunctions, fire hazard, or other accidents. If your projector seems to operate improperly, read this manual again, check operations and cable connections and try the solutions in the “Troubleshooting” section in the end of this booklet. If the problem still persists, contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or the service center.

– This projector produces intense light from the projection

lens. Do not stare directly into the lens as possible. Eye damage could result. Be especially careful that children do not stare directly into the beam.

– Install the projector in a proper position. If not, it may

result in a fire hazard.

– Provide appropriate space on the top, sides and rear of the

projector cabinet for allowing air circulation and cooling the projector. Minimum clearance must be maintained. If the projector is to be built into a compartment or similarly enclosed, the minimum distances must be maintained. Do not cover the ventilation slot on the projector. Heat buildup can reduce the service life of your projector, and can also be dangerous.

– Do not put any flammable object or spray can near the

projector, hot air is exhausted from the ventilation holes.

– If the projector is not to be used for an extended time,

unplug the projector from the power outlet.

Safety Instructions

All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated.

Read all of the instructions given here and retain them for later use. Unplug this projector from AC power supply before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the projector.

For added protection to the projector during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage due to lightning and power line surges.

Do not expose this unit to rain or use near water... for example, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc...

Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer as they may cause hazards.

Do not place this projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The projector may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the projector. Use only with a cart or stand recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the projector. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer's instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturers.

An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn.

Slots and openings in the back and bottom of the cabinet are provided for ventilation, to insure reliable operation of the equipment and to protect it from overheating.

The openings should never be covered with cloth or other materials, and the bottom opening should not be blocked by placing the projector on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This projector should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.

This projector should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a book case unless proper ventilation is provided.

Never push objects of any kind into this projector through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the projector.

Do not install the projector near the ventilation duct of airconditioning equipment.

This projector should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied, consult your authorized dealer or local power company.

Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in fire or electric shock. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this projector where the cord may be damaged by persons walking on it.

Do not attempt to service this projector yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Unplug this projector from wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. b. If liquid has been spilled into the projector. c. If the projector has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the projector does not operate normally by following the

operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the projector to normal operation.

e. If the projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been

damaged.

f. When the projector exhibits a distinct change in

performance-this indicates a need for service.

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this projector, ask the service technician to perform routine safety checks to determine that the projector is in safe operating condition.

CAUTION IN CARRYING OR TRANSPORTING THE PROJECTOR

– Do not drop or bump a projector, otherwise damages or

malfunctions may result. – When carrying a projector, use a suitable carrying case. – Do not transport a projector by using a courier or transport

service in an unsuitable transport case. This may cause

damage to a projector. To transport a projector through a

courier or transport service, consult your dealer for best

way.

Moving the Projector

When moving the projector, close the front cover and retract the adjustable feet to prevent damage to the lens and cabinet. When the projector is not in use for an extended period, put it into a suitable case.

Do not tilt the projector more than 20

degrees to either side.

Install the projector properly. Improper Installation may reduce

the lamp lifetime and cause a fire hazard.

Installing the Projector in Proper Position

Openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered.

CAUTION

Hot air is exhausted from the exhaust vent. When using or installing the projector, the following precautions should be taken. – Do not put any flammable objects near the vent. – Keep the exhaust vent at least 1.5’(50cm) away from any

objects.

– Do not touch a peripheral part of the exhaust vent, espe-

cially screws and metallic part. This area will become hot while the projector is being used.

– Do not put anything on the cabinet. The materials put on

the cabinet will not only get damaged but also cause fire hazard by heat.

Cooling fans are provided to cool down the projector. This projector monitors internal temperature and control the running speed of the cooling fans.

AC Power Cord for the United Kingdom :

This cord is already fitted with a moulded plug incorporating a fuse, the value of which is indicated on the pin face of the plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced, an ASTA approved BS 1362 fuse must be used of the same rating, marked thus

. If the fuse cover is detachable, never use the plug with the cover omitted. If a replacement fuse cover is required, ensure it is of the same colour as that visible on the pin face of the plug (i.e. red or orange). Fuse covers are available from the Parts Department indicated in your User Instructions. If the plug supplied is not suitable for your socket outlet, it should be cut off and destroyed. The end of the flexible cord should be suitably prepared and the correct plug fitted. (See Over)

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured green-and-yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked by the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or coloured green or green-and-yellow. The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

Should you be unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician.

A built-in micro processor which controls this unit may occasionally malfunction and need to be reset. This can be done by pressing the RESET button with a pen, which will shut down and restart the unit. Do not use the RESET function excessively.

Lights red when the projector detects abnormal condition. This

also flashes red when the internal temperature of the projector

POWER indicator

Flashes red until the projector gets ready to be turned on. It

lights red when the projector is in the stand-by mode. It

remains green while the projector is under operation. When

the front cover is closed it lights orange.

Part Names and Functions

To insure safe operation, please observe the following precautions :

● Use (2) AA, UM3 or LR06 type alkaline batteries.

● Replace two batteries at the same time.

● Do not use a new battery with a used battery.

● Avoid contact with water or liquid.

● Do not expose the remote control to moisture, or heat.

● Do not drop the remote control.

● If a battery has leaked on remote control, carefully wipe case clean and install new batteries.

● Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

● Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions.

Point the remote control toward the projector (Infrared Remote Receiver) whenever pressing any button. Maximum operating range for the remote control is about 16.4’ (5m) and 60° in front of the projector.

Pull up the lid and remove it.

Remove the battery compartment lid.

Slide the batteries into compartment.

Replace the compartment lid.

For correct polarity (+ and –), be sure battery terminals are in contact with pins in compartment.

* When the batteries of the remote control are replaced, the remote

control code automatically returns to the initial code (Code 1)(p43).

Installation

Projection angle can be adjusted up to 11.8 degrees with the adjustable feet.

Lift the front of the projector and pull the feet lock latches on both sides of the projector.

Release the feet lock latches to lock the adjustable feet and rotate the adjustable feet to adjust the position and tilt.

To retract the adjustable feet, lift the front of the projector and pull and undo the feet lock latches. Keystone distortion of the projected image can be adjusted by menu operation. (p21, 41)

CAUTION

Tilt the projector within the adjustable range in order not to shorten the life of the lamp. Proper angle should be taken. See page 6.

● The brightness in a room has a great influence on picture quality. It is

recommended to limit ambient lighting in order to provide the best image.

● The values shown are approximate and may vary from the actual size.

This projector is designed to project on a flat projection surface and can be focused from 3.9’(1.2m) - 20.0’(6.1m). Refer to the figure and the table below for the screen size and the distance between the projector and the screen.

NOTE ON THE POWER CORD

AC power cord must meet requirement of the country where you use a projector. Confirm an AC plug type with the chart below and proper AC power cord must be used. If supplied AC power cord does not match your AC outlet, contact your sales dealer.

This projector uses nominal input voltages of 100-120 V or 200-240 V AC. This projector automatically selects the correct input voltage. It is designed to work with single-phase power systems having a grounded neutral conductor. To reduce risk of electrical shock, do not plug into any other type of power system. Consult your authorized dealer or service station if you are not sure of the type of power being supplied. Connect the projector with all peripheral equipment before turning the projector on. (See page 16-18 for connection.)

CAUTION

For safety, unplug AC power cord when the projector is not in use. When this projector is connected to the outlet with AC power cord and the Main On/Off switch is on, it is in Stand-by mode and consumes a little electric power. Turn the Main On/Off switch off when the projector is not in use.

Installation

The projection lens can be moved up, down, left, and right with the manual lens shift function. This function makes it easy to provide a projected image where you want.

NOTE

● The best image is generally obtained at the center of the lens shift.

● When using the lens shift upward or downward to the limit, the lens does

Basic Operation

Connect the projector's AC power cord into an AC outlet and open the front cover. Turn the Main On / Off switch on, and the POWER indicator flashes red in a moment and turns on red. (If the front cover is being closed, the POWER indicator light orange.)

Press the POWER ON-OFF button on the top control or on the remote control. The POWER indicator turns green, and the cooling fans start to operate. The preparation display appears on the screen and the count down starts. (A captured image can be used as the preparation display. See “Capture” on page 42.)

Press the POWER ON-OFF button on the top control or on the remote control, and a message "Power off?" appears on the screen. The message is not displayed and the projector is turned off when the Power off confirmation function is off. (See the Setting Menu on page 43.)

Press the POWER ON-OFF button again to turn off the projector. The POWER indicator starts to flash red, and it continues while the cooling fans are operating (for about 60 seconds).

TO MAINTAIN THE LIFE OF LAMP, ONCE YOU TURN PROJECTOR ON, WAIT AT LEAST 5 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING IT OFF. DO NOT DISCONNECT AC POWER CORD WHILE COOLING FANS ARE RUNNING OR BEFORE POWER INDICATOR LIGHTS RED. OTHERWISE IT WILL RESULT IN SHORTENING LAMP LIFE.

When the projector has cooled down enough to be turned on again, the POWER indicator lights red. Then you can turn the Main On/Off switch off and disconnect the AC power cord.

The message disappears after 4 seconds.

After the count-down, the input source that was selected last and the Lamp mode status icon appear on the screen.

NOTE

● When the front cover is closed during operation, the projector is

automatically turned off in 5 seconds for safety. Be sure to turn off the projector by pressing the POWER ON-OFF button on the top control or on the remote control after use.

● The projector cannot be turned on during the cooling period with the

POWER indicator flashing red. You can turn it on again after the POWER indicator lights red.

● Do not use the projector for more than 24 hours continuously. Turn off the

projector at least once in 24 hours and give it a rest. Continuous use may result in shortening the lamp lifetime.

● This projector monitors internal temperature and automatically controls the

running speed of the cooling fans.

● If the WARNING indicator flashes or lights red, see “Warning Indicator” on

page 45.

Press the MENU button on the top control or on the remote control to display the On-Screen Menu (Main Menu).

Select a menu from the main menu by pressing the Point Up/Down button, and press the Point Right button to enter the sub-menu. (The selected icon turns yellow.)

When using the top control, press the MENU button to close the On-Screen Menu.

When using the remote control, both main menu and submenu can be closed by pressing the MENU button. Pressing the CANCEL button once, then you will go back to the previous screen. Or press CANCEL button twice, the OnScreen Menu will be closed.

This projector can detect most of the current computer systems with the Multi-scan system and the Auto PC adjustment function provided in the projector. When selecting computer input, the projector automatically displays the most proper image for the input signal. One of the following four displays appears on the system menu icon. If the projector does not tune the input signal and the projected image is not displayed properly, or when you wish to adjust it manually, perform manual adjustment as described on page 35 and 36.

When the projector cannot recognize the connected signal as PC system provided in this projector, the Auto PC adjustment function operates to adjust the projector and the message “Auto” is displayed in the PC System Menu icon. When the image is not provided properly, manual adjustment is required. (p35, 36)

There is no signal input from the connected computer. Check the connection of the computer and see if the projector is set correctly. (See “Troubleshooting” on page 52.)

Computer Input

Some computers employ special signal formats which may not be tuned by Multi-scan system of this projector. This projector has Manual PC Adjustment to enable you to precisely adjust several parameters to match those signal formats. The projector has 5 independent memory areas to memorize those parameters manually adjusted. This enables you to recall the setting for a specific computer whenever you use it.

Select the PC Adjust Menu with the Point Up/Down button, and then press the Point Right button to enter the sub-menu.

This projector has a useful function to resize a projected screen.

When Digital zoom is selected, the On-Screen Menu disappears and the message “D.Zoom” is displayed. Press the SELECT button to expand the image. And press the POINT UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT button(s) to pan the image. The panning function can work only when the original image is larger than screen size (1280 x 720).

This function is used to select the way of setting the projector. Off ···· Cancels the selected way of setting Ceiling ···· Used to project the image from a ceiling mounting the

When this function is “On,” the picture is left/right reversed. This function is used to project the image to a rear projection screen.

Capture

This function is used to capture the image being projected and use it for a starting-up display or interval of presentations. After capturing the projected image, go to the Logo function and set it as “User”. Then the captured image will be displayed when turning on the projector next time or pressing the MY PICTURE (MY-P) button on the remote control. (p11) To capture the image, select [Yes]. To cancel the Capture function, select [No]. To stop capturing in the middle, press CANCEL button.

● A signal from a computer can be captured up to XGA(1024 x 768). If selecting 1280 x 1024 at Display area in the PC Adjust Menu (p36), then the image cannot be captured.

● A signal from video equipment can be captured except for 720p, 1035i, 1080i.

● When capturing the image that has been adjusted by the Keystone function, the adjustment data is automatically reset and the projector captures an image without keystone adjustment.

● If the Capture function fails to capture an image or cancel to capture in the middle, the On-Screen Menu returns to the Capture item.

● If capturing a signal which is not able to be captured, an exclamation mark appears and the function will not be available.

● When you change the Image Level, the Image Level of MY PICTURE also changes from which it was captured .

This projector has two different remote control codes: Code 1 (initial code) and Code 2. This switching function prevents remote control interference when operating several projectors or video equipment together. When operating the projector in “Code 1”, both the projector and the remote control must be switched to “Code 1”.

To change the code of the projector;

Set the remote control code in the Setting Menu to “Code 2”.

To change the code of the remote control;

Open the compartment lid on back of the remote control then you will find a white switch. Slide it left or right to change the code of the remote control.

After changing the code, make sure the remote control operates properly. To return to the initial code (Code 1), repeat the steps above.

For reducing power consumption as well as maintaining the lamp life, the Power management function turns off the projection lamp when the input signal is interrupted and no button is pressed for 30 seconds or more.

When the input signal is interrupted and no button is pressed for 30 seconds or more, the timer display with the message "No signal" appears on the screen. The count-down starts for 5 minutes.

When the count-down time has elapsed, the lamp will be turned off to cool itself down. The POWER indicator is flashing red during this cooling-off period. The next performance depends on setting as follows.

On ··· When the lamp has been fully cooled down, the POWER

indicator changes to green flashing. In this condition, the projection lamp will be turned on if the input signal is reconnected or any button on the top control or remote control is pressed.

Cleaning

This function is used to clean inside of the projector. Using blower at the same time is more effective. (See p48)

Press the SELECT button, then the projected image is blacked out temporary whether input source is selected or not. The fan starts to move automatically to help blowing the dust.

To restore to normal, press any other buttons. To cancel, press any other button during the cleaning operation.

Panel adjustment

This function is used to get the best picture reproduction of each of the R(red), G(green) and B(blue) LCD panels. If proper adjustment is not made, you might get vertical noise lines on the screen.

This function should be made about ten minutes after turning on the projector, with any signals or without a signal. Darker environment makes your adjustment more accurate.

The Test pattern screens appear in the order of red, green, blue. Adjust each patterns as follows.

1. Adjust Bright dialog to minimize vertical lines in the bright part of the picture.

2. Adjust Dark dialog to minimize vertical lines in the dark part of the picture.

3. Press the Point Up/Down button to get to the next color. Repeat 1 and 2 for each of R,G,B panels until lines of the picture are minimized.

4. Press the Point Up/Down button to get to the Check pattern screen and check adjustment.

5. To close this screen, press MENU.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The WARNING indicator shows the state of the function which protects the projector. Check the state of the WARNING indicator and the POWER indicator to take proper maintenance.

The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator is flashing red

When the temperature inside the projector exceeds the normal temperature, the projector is automatically shut down to protect the inside of the projector. The POWER indicator is flashing and the projector is being cooled down. When the temperature inside the projector returns to normal, the POWER indicator lights red and the projector can be turned on.

NOTE

● After the temperature inside the projector returns to normal, the WARNING

indicator still continues to flash. When the projector is turned on again, the WARNING indicator stops flashing.

Then check the items below.

✓ Did you provide appropriate space for the projector to be

ventilated? Check the installing condition to see if ventilation slots are not blocked.

✓ Is the projector not installed near the ventilation duct of air-

conditioning equipment which may be hot? Install the projector away from the ventilation duct of air-conditioning equipment.

✓ Is the air filter clean? Clean the air filter or replace it with a new

one.

The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator lights red

When the projector detects an abnormal condition, it is automatically shut down to protect the inside and the WARNING indicator lights red. In this case, disconnect the AC power cord and reconnect it, and then turn the projector on once again for check. If the projector is turned off again and the WARNING indicator lights red, disconnect the AC power cord and contact the service station for check and repair.

CAUTION

DO NOT LEAVE THE PROJECTOR WITH THE AC POWER CORD CONNECTED UNDER THE ABNORMAL CONDITION. IT MAY RESULT IN FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Cleaning the RGB panels

If some dusts attach to optical parts inside the projector, the brightness could decrease or shadows could appear on the screen and image deterioration could result.

This projector equipped with RGB panel cleaning holes on the bottom of the projector to clean the internal parts (such as optical parts) of the projector. When you use the projector continuously for hours or you find shadows of dust on the projected screen, clean the inside of the projector with the supplied blower.

Using the supplied blower and the Cleaning function in the Setting menu, you can blow dusts away in the projector.

CAUTION IN USING THE BLOWER AND THE NOZZLE

● When using the blower, turn over the projector.

● Use only supplied blower and nozzle to keep the projector from being out of oder or damaging . We

could not guarantee the malfunction or breakage caused by using unsupplied tools.

● Do not use a commercially available air spry not to cause malfunction of internal parts with the cool air.

● Put the projector on a soft cloth not to scratch the surface.

● Open the hole cover only when you clean the inside of the projector.

● Do not pull the hole cover strongly.

● Do not look into the holes. Strong light could damage your eyes. (Do not look into Air intake vent and

Exhaust vent, either.)

● Use the blower and the nozzle only to clean the projector. Do not try to use them to another purpose. Do not use the blower and nozzle to a man (especially eyes, mouth or ear and so on). Be careful not children put the blower and nozzle into their mouths or swallow them.

● Do not try to pull the nozzle out from the blower. If the nozzle happened to pull off, put it back into the blower.

When you find something unusual (smoke, strange sound, abnormal odor and so on) while you are cleaning, turn off and unplug the projector immediately, then call the dealer you purchased it or service center.

NOTE

● The dust might not be taken away completely with these steps. In that case, contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or

the service center.

If the nozzle pulled off.....

The nozzle has stoppers. Put the stopper side of the nozzle in the blower. Put the nozzle firmly in the blower until the stoppers become invisible. When putting the nozzle in the blower, hold the stopper side not to break the nozzle.

Press MENU button to display the On-Screen Menu and select the Setting menu by pressing the Point Up/Down button. Then press Point Right button to enter the sub-menu.

Turn over the projector then pull one of the hole covers upward gently.

Put the blower nozzle in the hole.

When finishing, pull the blower out and put the hole cover back tightly.

Turn over the projector again, then press any button on the top control or on the remote control to cancel the Cleaning function.

● When red spots (dust) are the most remarkable, put the nozzle in

the R panel cleaning holes.

the G panel cleaning holes.

● When Blue spots (dust) are the most remarkable, put the nozzle in

the B panel cleaning holes.

When cleaning, wave the nozzle inside of the projector back and forth. (Do not try to force the nozzle to bend.)

Use only supplied blower and nozzle. Do not use a commercially available air spry

not to cause malfunction of internal parts with the cool air. We could not guarantee the malfunction of breakage by using unsupplied tools.

When putting back the hole cover, starts from the outside hole to make the operation easier and prevent the hole cover from damaging.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Turn off the projector and disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet.

Turn over the projector. Put the projector on a soft cloth not to scratch the surface.

The air filters prevent dust from accumulating on the surface of the optical elements inside the projector. Should the air filters become clogged with dust particles, it will reduce cooling fans’ effectiveness and may result in internal heat build up and adversely affect the life of the projector. Clean the air filters according to the following steps below.

CAUTION

Do not operate the projector with the air filter removed. Dust may accumulate on the LCD panel and the projection mirror degrading picture quality. Do not put small parts into the air intake vents. It may result in malfunction of the projector.

RECOMMENDATION

We recommend avoiding dusty/smoky environments when operating the projector. When using under dusty or smoky conditions, dust may accumulate on a lens, LCD panels, or optical elements inside the projector. This condition may degrade the quality of a projected image. When the above symptoms are noticed, contact your authorized dealer or service station for proper cleaning.

Pull the latches on both edges upward.

Remove dust and dirt with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. Be careful not to damage the air filters and do not clean the air filters with water. When there is much dust and dirt on the air filter, replace it with a new one. (See next page for replacing the air filter. )

Put the air filters back into position. Make sure that the air filters are properly and fully inserted.

Put the air filter back into the position with pushing the top of the tub. Do not push the delicate filter part. Make sure that the air filters are properly and fully inserted.

Disconnect the AC power cord before cleaning.

Softly wipe the projector body with a soft, dry cleaning cloth. When it is heavily soiled, use a small amount of mild detergent and finish with a soft, dry cleaning cloth. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface.

Follow these steps to clean the projector cabinet.

When the projector is not in use, put the projector in the carrying case to protect it from dust and scratches.

Softly wipe the projection lens with a cleaning cloth that contains a small amount of non-abrasive camera lens cleaner, or use lens cleaning paper or a commercially available air blower to clean the lens. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface.

After removing the air filter from the projector as described above, remove the replacement filter from the holder.

When there is much dust and dirt on the air filter, replace it with a new one following the steps below.

When the life of the projection lamp of this projector draws to an end, the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights yellow. If this indicator lights yellow, replace the lamp with a new one promptly.

Follow these steps to replace the lamp.

Replacement lamp can be ordered through your dealer. When ordering a projection lamp, give the following information to the dealer.

● Model No. of your projector : PLV-Z3

● Replacement Lamp Type No. : POA-LMP86

(Service Parts No. 610 317 5355)

For continued safety, replace with a lamp of the same type. Do not drop a lamp or touch a glass bulb! The glass can shatter and may cause injury.

Allow a projector to cool, for at least 45 minutes before you open the Lamp cover. The inside of the projector can become very hot.

This indicator lights yellow when the life of the projection lamp draws to an end.

Top Control

Turn off the projector and disconnect the AC plug. Allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

Loosen 2 screws of the lamp with a screwdriver and pull out the lamp by grasping the handle.

Replace the lamp with a new one and tighten the 2 screws back into position. Make sure that the lamp is set properly. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw.

Turn over the projector. Loosen the screw with a screwdriver, and remove the lamp cover.

Connect the AC power cord to the projector and turn on the projector.

Reset the Lamp replace counter.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Be sure to reset the lamp replace counter after the lamp is replaced. When the lamp replace counter is reset, the LAMP REPLACE indicator stops lighting.

Turn the projector on, press the MENU button, and the OnScreen Menu will appear. Select the Setting Menu with the Point Up/Down button and press the Point Right button to enter the sub-menu.

Select the Lamp counter reset item and then press the SELECT button. The message "Lamp replace counter Reset?" is displayed. Choose [Yes] and then press the SELECT button.

Another confirmation dialog box appears and choose [Yes] to reset the Lamp replace counter.

This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard.

● Lamp lifetime may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no

guarantee of the same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their lifetime in a shorter period of time than other similar lamps.

● If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights

up, replace the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down. ( Follow carefully the instructions in the Lamp Replacement section of this manual. ) Continuous use of the lamp with the LAMP REPLACE indicator lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion.

● A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its

lifetime draws to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp are being used.

IF A LAMP EXPLODES, THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN.

If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projector’s AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by pieces of broken glass.

Tr oubleshooting

Before calling your dealer or service center for assistance, check the items below once again.

– Make sure you have properly connected the projector to peripheral equipment as described in “Connecting to Video

Equipment” and "Connecting to a Computer" on page16 -18. – Make sure all equipment is connected to AC outlet and the power is turned on. – When you operate the projector with a computer and it does not project an image, restart the computer.

No power

– Plug the power cord of the projector into the AC outlet. – See if the front cover is open and the POWER indicator lights red. – See if the Main On/Off switch is on. – Wait 90 seconds after the projector is turned OFF when turning the projector back on.

The projector can be turned on after the POWER indicator turns red. (See “Turning Off the Projector” on page 19.)

– Check the WARNING indicator. If the WARNING indicator lights red, the projector cannot

be turned on. (See "Warning Indicator" on page 45.) – Check the projection lamp. (See page 49.) – Check the projector is installed on the flat surface.

Adjust focus of the projector. –

Provide proper distance between the projector and the projection screen. (See page 13.) –

Check the projection lens to see if it needs cleaning. (See page 49.) –

Moving the projector from a cool temperature location to a warm temperature location

may result in moisture condensation on the projection lens. In such an event, leave the

projector OFF and wait until condensation disappears.

Check the connection between video equipment or your computer and the projector. –

See if the input signal is correctly output from your computer. Some laptop computers

may need changing the setting for monitor output when you are connecting a laptop

computer. See your computer’s owner’s manual for setting. –

It takes about 20 seconds to display an image after turning on the projector. –

See if the selected system is corresponding with video equipment or your computer. –

Select correct input source once again through menu operation. –

Make sure the temperature is not out of the Operating Temperature (5°C ~ 35°C).

WARNING : High voltages are used to operate this projector. Do not attempt to open the cabinet.

If problems still persist

after following all operating instructions,

contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or the

service center.

Give the model number and explain about the problem. We will advise you how to obtain service.

The Remote Control

does not work.

–

Check the batteries.

–

Make sure no obstruction is between the projector and remote control.

–

Make sure you are not too far from the projector when using the remote control.

Maximum operating range is 16.4’ (5m).

Make sure the code of the remote control is conformed to that of the projector. (See

page 43)

The Main On/Off switch is off or the AC power cord is unplugged.

The projector is preparing for stand-by. Or the projection lamp is being cooled down. The projector cannot be turned on until cooling is completed.

The temperature inside the projector is abnormally high. The projector cannot be turned on. When the projector is cooled down enough and the temperature returns to normal, the POWER indicator lights red and the projector can be turned on. (The WARNING . indicator keeps flashing.) Check and clean the Air filter.

The projector detects an abnormal condition and cannot be turned on. Unplug the AC power cord and plug it again to turn on the projector. If the projector is turned off again, disconnect the AC power cord and contact the dealer or the service center for service and checkup. Do not leave the projector on. It may cause electric shock or a fire hazard.

The projector is in the Power management mode.

The projector has been cooled down enough and the temperature returns to normal. When turning on the projector, the WARNING indicator stops flashing. Check and clean the air filter.
