Safety Precautions
An isolation transformer should be connected in the power line between the receiver and the AC line before any service is performed on the receiver.
X- Radiation Precautions
The primary source
of X-RADIATION in television
receiver is the picture tube. The picture tube is specially
constructed to limit X-RADIATION
emission. For continued X-RADIATION protection, the replacement tube must be the same type as the original including suffix letter. Excessive high voltage may produce
potentially hazardous X-RADIATION. To avoid such hazards, the high voltage must be maintain within
specified limit. Refer to this service manual for specific
high voltage limits. If high voltage exceeds specified limits,
take necessary corrective action. Carefully follow the
instructions for + B1 volt power supply adjustment, and high voltage check to maintain the high voltage within the specified limits.

8. Purity and Convergence Adjustment
L
.
‘L
.
w
CAUTION:The Convergence and Purity adjustments have been made at the factory. Readjustment should be
made only after picture tube or deflection yoke replacement, following the steps below:
PURITY ADJUSTMENT
1.Demagnetize the picture tube and receiver using an external
degaussing coil. When replacing picture tube or deflection
yoke, mount deflection yoke and purity - convergence
magnets assembly properly, see figures 1 and 4.
2.Turn Red and Blue guns off and provide only Green raster. Rotate Screen control to fully counterclockwise. Rotate Red and Blue Bias controls fully counterclockwise. Slowly rotate Green Bias control clockwise to produce Green raster.
3.Loosen the screw holding the Deflection Yoke and remove the 3 Rubber Wedges, and slide the Deflection Yoke fully frontward.
4. Rotate and spread the Tabs of the two Purity Magnets to center the vertical green belt in the picture screen. The Purity Magnets are also adjusted to obtain vertical centering of the raster.
5.SIOWIY slide the Deflection Yoke backward until a uniform green screen is obtained.
6,Check the purity of the red and blue screens for uniformity,
turn off other colours to check this (use bias controls).
Readjust the yoke position if necessary until all screens are pure.
7.Adjust each Bias control and screen control to obtain white
raster. Refer to Gray Scale Adjustment. If part of the picture screen is coloured, adjust the Deflection Yoke position
forward or backward slightly.

TABS
Figure- 1. PURITY AND CONVERGENCE MAGNETS
8. Tighten the mounting screw of the Deflection Yoke. Adjust Convergence next.
CENTER CONVERGENCE ADJUSTMENT
1.
Use a dot crosshatch pattern signal.
2. Turn Red and Blue guns on and turn off Green gun. Adjust the angle between the Tabs of the Four Pole Magnet 1and 2,and superimpose the Red and Blue vertical lines in the center area of the picture screen. Refer to figure 2.
3. Keeping the mutual angle of the Tabs of the Four Pole Magnet turn them together to superimpose the Blue and Red horizontal lines in the center area of the picture screen. Refer to figure 2.
4. Turn Green gun on and adjust Six Pole Magnet 3 and 4s that the Green line superimposed on the Red/Blue lines.
This is the same procedure used in steps 2 and 3. Refer to figure 3.
OUTER AREA CONVERGENCE ADJUSTMENT
Slightly loosen the screw holding the Deflection Yoke. Adjust the Deflection Yoke to converge the detail in the outer area (left side and right side) of the picture screen by orbital movement of the front of the Yoke, then secure the Deflection Yoke in appropriate position by putting the wedges as illustrated. Tighten screw holding the Deflection Yoke.

11-4. Mode selector (VHJ-0050) handling
instruction
The mode selector drives the loading motor of the
mechanism with its internal batteries (UM-2 X 4=6V), using LEDS to indicate the mode (EJECT, INITIAL), BRAKE, STOP/REW/FWD, STILL, PLAY, IDLER, REV)
simultaneously with EJECT e+ REW mode changes.
Instead of the internal batteries, an external DC 6V power
supply can be used.

11-4-3. Handling method
1) The mode changes in sequence of EJECT, INITIAL,
BRAKE, STOP/REW/FF, STILL, PLAY, IDLER, REV
when the right side ( ~ ) of the mode selector button is
pressed.
2) To change
the mode from REV to EJECT, press the left side ( + ) of the mode selector button to select the desired mode.
3) In the mid position of each mode during a shift to another mode, the “BLANK LED lights. But the “PLAY”, “IDLER”,
“REV” LEDs light between the
EJECT mode and the INITIAL mode. Be sure,
therefore, to check the mechanism body to see just
what state the mechanism is in. Incidentally, if the mode selector is not connected to the mechanism, the “BLANK LED lights to indicate the power is ON.
4) The SLOW position of the POWER switch makes relatively slow motions in comparison with the NORMAL position.
Note 1: The mode selector drives the loading motor only, not affecting the head drum motor and the capstan motor. When using the mode selector with a cassette loaded,
turn the capstan motor manually to remove tape
slackness, preventing tape entanglement. Note 2: If the left side ( @ ) of the mode selector (VHJ-0050) key is kept pressed with the COMPL cassettemechanism removed, it might get the EJECT position, causing the front helical gear and the front worm gear to get disengaged. In this condition, since the front helical gear will not turn even if the right side ( ~ ) of the mode selector key is pressed, rotate (push) the front
– 36
helical gear clockwise by hand and engage it with the
front worm gear. As there is a misalignment between the
mechanism main body operation mode (indicated by the mode selector indicator lamps) and the front loading
mechanism operation mode, keep the right side ( 4 ) of the mode selector key pressed until the front helical gear and the front loading gear of the front loading mechanism get back to the initial condition (Refer to A and B in figure on page ). When the front loading mechanism returns to the initial condition, the operation mode of the whole +
mechanism gets back to normal, matching the mode shown by the mode indicator lamps (mode EJECT would
not be properly indicated during eject). Sometimes, engagement of the front helical gear with the front worm gear is delayed. The mechanism main body gets too much ahead and the front loading mechanism
mode cannot be switched to the initial condition. In that case, press the left side ( * ) of the mode selector key, setting the mechanism main body operation mode back to EJECT (rotation of the mode cam and the MAIN CAM stops). Note 3: The mode indicator lamps show the mechanism operation mode, but the EJECT lamp may sometimes fail to indicate the actual mechanism operation mode. When setting the mechanism to the EJECT or INITIAL mode for dismounting or reassembling, fine adjustment of each gear and cam, etc., and marking positions is requires after the mode indicator lamp has lighted up. Do this with the mode selector switch in the SLOW position.
