KEYLESS ENTRY TESTER 3415

What is the Santronics KEYLESS ENTRY TESTER?
The Santronics Keyless Entry Tester is the first step for remote
keyless entry, alarm and remote starter system diagnosis. Time is very
important not only to the customer, but also to the service manager or
technician. The Keyless Entry Tester will enable the user to determine if a
keyless entry problem is caused by a faulty hand held transmitter or the
receiver inside the vehicle. This includes factory installed or aftermarket
keyless entry systems.
Typical problems with Keyless Entry Systems:
• Doors will unlock but will not lock.
• Doors will lock but will not unlock.
• The remote trunk opener will not operate.
• The remote interior lights will not turn on.
• The remote starter will not start the engine.
• One keyless transmitter works but the other will not work
at all.
• One keyless transmitter works but on the second
transmitter, only some of the functions work.
• Keyless transmitter functions work intermittently.
• All keyless transmitters are inoperative.
• The panic function is inoperative.
• Keyless transmitter transmitting all the time on one
function causing the system to operate in error.
All functions of the keyless transmitter can be tested for the presence of the data signal. The Santronics Keyless Entry Tester eliminates the
guesswork in remote system diagnosis.

programmed properly for the vehicle.

SITUATIONS

Different model vehicles require specific keyless transmitter
types. When testing new or used vehicle systems, be sure the correct
keyless transmitter type is matched to the vehicle remote system.
Many original equipment systems have similar keyless
transmitter case styles but will only operate certain year model or
body style systems.
Example: Cadillac automobiles have up to four different
keyless transmitter types. If a keyless transmitter test passes all
functions and the vehicle is not responding, check with your parts
department to make sure you are using the correct keyless
transmitter for the application.
This is very important since the wrong transmitter will pass
the function test b
ut the receiver will not respond if the wrong model
transmitter is used.
The signal transmitted from the keyless transmitter is com-
bined with coded data. It is possible for a keyless transmitter to
transmit the signal with faulty coded data. If this is the case, the
keyless transmitter will test good but will not operate the vehicle
remote system. This failure type is very rare and will require the
technician to substitute a known good keyless transmitter for
additional vehicle system testing.
Remote systems that use
“rolling code technology” keyless
transmitters could be out of synchronization with the receiver. Before
keyless transmitter substitution, check the system owners manual for
system synchronization instructions.
