Each thin client provides basic computing functions: connecting
to a server via the network, transmitting input signals to the
server, and showing output of performance.

SBC (Server-Based Computing)

An Ideal Thin Client

Microsoft Windows CE is embedded on the SyncMaster™ 710NT and Windows
XP is embedded on 711XT/720XT/920XT. This guarantees full compatibility
with Microsoft Windows Server by supporting RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol),
making the monitors perfect streamlined thin client solutions. Each Samsung
thin client also supports the ICA protocol and enables connection to Citrix
environments.

Single Unit, Compact Design

Everything is in a single package - thin client CPU and network module, as well
as monitor speakers and adaptor - for maximum space efficiency.

Flexible Functionality

Four USB ports (2 on the side, 2 in the rear) are provided for connection with
various peripherals. An embedded browser enables you to use simple Internet
functions even without connecting to the server and to open files saved on

Why Thin Client?

The Personal Computer has ruled the roost for a considerable number of years and as a basic computing

tool has served its purpose well. However, over the years, the true costs of employing a computing device

which is open to abuse from both internal and external influences have become apparent. A thin client

at its simplest is a device which has no hard disk drive or fan, no huge operating system, no method of

storing data. It connects to a central computer via a network and allows key presses and mouse clicks to

be sent to the computer and allows screen updates to be transmitted back to the monitor. All computing

takes place in a server running Microsoft’s Terminal Server. As far as a user is concerned, they are using

a PC, they see the same response time, the same applications, the same flexibility. But, the application

is running on a remote server, no data is travelling between the client and the server. What this gives any

organisation is a computing system that is secure from virus attack, and hijacking of data; allows multiple

devices both on and off site to be managed from a remote location; does not need updating that often

(but if it does, can be done via the management tool); reduces network bandwidth costs; allows working

from home to be as secure as working on site; the low power consumption means a vast reduction in

consumed power and heart generation; if a unit goes wrong it is simply swapped out – no lengthy re-
