Precautions
Ensure that the AC power supply in your house matches with the identifi cation sticker located on the back of your product.
Install your product horizontally, on a suitable base (piece of furniture), with enough space around it for ventilation (3~4 inches).
Do not place the product on amplifi ers or other equipment which may become hot. Make sure the ventilation slots are not covered.
Do not stack anything on top of the product. Before moving the product, ensure the Disc Insert Hole is
empty. In order to disconnect the product completely from the power
supply, remove the AC plug from the wall outlet, especially when left unused for a long period of time.
During thunderstorms, disconnect the AC plug from the wall outlet. Voltage peaks due to lightning could damage the product.
Do not expose the product to direct sunlight or other heat sources. This could lead to overheating and malfunction of the product.
Protect the product from moisture, and excess heat or equipment creating strong magnetic or electric fi elds (i.e. speakers.).
Disconnect the power cable from the AC wall outlet if the product malfunctions.
Your product is not intended for industrial use. Use of this product is for personal use only.
Condensation may occur if your product or disc has been stored in cold temperatures. If transporting the product during the winter, wait approximately 2 hours until the product has reached room temperature before using.
The batteries used with this product contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment. Do not dispose of batteries in the general household trash.

Cautions on Handling and Storing Discs
License
Small scratches on the disc may reduce sound and picture quality or cause skipping.
Be especially careful not to scratch discs when handling them.
Holding discs
Do not touch the playback side of the disc. Hold the disc by the edges so that fi ngerprints will not get
on the surface. Do not stick paper or tape on the disc.
Disc Storage

Handling and Storing Discs
If you get fingerprints or dirt on a disc, clean it with a mild detergent diluted in water and wipe with a soft cloth.
When cleaning, wipe gently from the inside to the outside of the disc
NOTE
Condensation may form if warm air comes into contact
with cold parts inside the product. When condensation forms inside the product, it may not operate correctly. If this occurs, remove the disc and let the product stand for 1 or 2 hours with the power on.
Many DVD discs are encoded with copy protection. Because of this, you should only connect your product directly to your TV, not to a VCR. Connecting to a VCR results in a distorted picture from copy-protected DVD discs.

Features
Playback of many disc types
This product allows you to play back various discs, including DVD-Video, DVD±R/±RW , CD-DA, CD-R/-RW, MP3-CD, WMA-CD and DivX.
USB Host support
You can enjoy media fi les such as pictures, movies and music saved on a MP3 player, digital camera or USB memory stick by connecting the storage device to the USB port of the product.
HDMI
HDMI transmits DVD video and audio signals simultaneously, and provides a clearer picture.
iPod support
If the system is connected to iPod player, you can play the music files in iPod through the built-in speakers.
BD Wise
BD Wise automatically adjusts BD Wise-compliant Samsung products to their optimal settings. This feature is enabled only if BD Wise-compliant Samsung products are connected to each other
using an HDMI cable.

Do not use the following types of disc!
LD, CD-G, CD-I, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM discs cannot be played on this product. If such discs are played, a <WRONG DISC FORMAT> message appears on the TV screen.
DVD discs purchased abroad may not play on this product. If such discs are played, a <Wrong Region. Please check Disc.> message appears on the TV screen.

Disc Types And Disc Format
This product does not support Secure (DRM) Media fi les.
CD-R Discs
Some CD-R discs may not be playable depending on
the disc recording device (CD-Recorder or PC) and the condition of the disc.
Use a 650MB/74 minute CD-R disc.
Do not use CD-R discs over 700MB/80 minutes as they may not be played back.
Some CD-RW (Rewritable) media, may not be playable. Only CD-Rs that are properly "closed" can be fully
played. If the session is closed but the disc is left open, you may not be able to fully play the disc.

CD-R MP3 Discs
Only CD-R discs with MP3 fi les in ISO 9660 or
Joliet format can be played.
MP3 fi le names should contain no blank spaces
or special characters (. / = +).
Use discs recorded with a compression/
decompression data rate greater than 128Kbps.
Only fi les with the ".mp3" and ".MP3" extensions
can be played.
Only a consecutively written multisession disc can
be played. If there is a blank segment in the Multisession disc, the disc can be played only up to the blank segment.
If the disc is not closed, it will take longer to begin
playback and not all of the recorded fi les may be played.
For fi les encoded in Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
format, i.e. fi les encoded in both low bit rate and high bit rate (e.g., 32Kbps ~ 320Kbps), the sound may skip during playback.
A maximum of 999 tracks can be played per CD. A maximum of 300 folders can be played per CD.
CD-R JPEG Discs
If a DVD-R/-RW disc has not been recorded
properly in DVD Video format, it will not be playable.
DivX (Digital internet video express)
DivX is a video fi le format developed by Microsoft, based on MPEG4 compression technology, which provides audio and video data over the Internet in real-time.
MPEG4 is used for video encoding and MP3 for audio encoding so that the users can watch a movie at near DVD-quality video and audio.
Supported Formats (DivX)
This product only supports the following media formats. If both video and audio formats are not supported, the user may experience problems such as broken images or no sound.

supported. (Example : QPEL, GMC, resolution higher than 800 x 600 pixels, etc.)

Aspect Ratio : Although the default DivX resolution is 640x480 pixels, this product supports up to 720x480 pixels. TV screen resolutions higher than 800 will not be supported.
When you play a disc whose sampling frequency is higher than 48khz or 320kbps, you may experience shaking on the screen during playback. Sections with a high frame rate might not be played when you play a DivX fi le. Since this product only provides encoding formats authorized by DivX Networks, Inc., a DivX fi le created by the user might not play.

• Supports USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 compliant devices.
• Supports devices connected using the USB A type cable.
• Supports UMS (USB Mass Storage Device) V1.0 compliant devices.
• Supports the FAT (FAT, FAT16, FAT32) fi le system.
Non-compliance
• Does not support a device that requires installing a separate driver on a PC (Windows).
• Does not support connection to a USB hub.
• A USB device that is connected using the USB extension cable may not be recognized.
• A USB device requiring a separate power source needs to be connected to the product with the
separate power connection.
Operational Limitations
• If the connected device has multiple drives (or partitions) installed, only one drive (or partition) can be connected.
• A device supporting USB 1.1 alone may cause a difference in the picture quality, depending on the device.

- Removable HDDs equipped with less than 160 Gbytes are supported. Removable HDDs with 160Gbytes or more may not be recognized, depending on the device.
- If the connected device does not work due to insuffi cient power supply, you can use a separate power cable to supply power so that it can work properly. The connector of the USB cable may differ, depending on the manufacturer of the USB device.

Where to Install Your Micro-Compact System
To take full advantage of your new Micro-compact system, follow these installation instructions before connecting the unit.
Install the system on a flat, stable surface.
Never place this unit on carpeting.
Never place this unit in an outdoor area.
Maintain an open space of approximately 6 inches (15 cm) on the sides and rear of the system, for ventilation purposes.
Make sure that you have enough room to open the compact disc compartment easily.
Software upgrades using the USB Port must be performed with a USB memory flash stick only.
Do not obstruct the ventilation holes.
Connect your TV's Video Input jack (VIDEO IN) to the VIDEO OUT jack.
Connect the DC adapter to this product.
Connect headphones.
For testing only. Do not use.
Connect a TV with Component video inputs to these jacks.
Connect to the audio out of an external device(such as a VCR).
Use an HDMI calbe to connect this HDMI output terminal to the HDMI input termianl on your TV for the best quality picture.
Connect external USB storage devices such as MP3 players, USB fl ash memory, etc.
Connect the FM antenna.

Installing batteries in the Remote Control

METHOD 1 : Component Video (BETTER QUALITY)
If your television is equipped with Component Video inputs, connect a Component video cable (not supplied) from the COMPONENT OUT (Pr, Pb and Y) Jacks on the back of the product to the Component Video Input Jacks on your TV.
METHOD 2 : Composite Video (GOOD QUALITY)
Connect the supplied Video cable from the VIDEO OUT jack on the back of the product to the VIDEO IN jack on your TV.
METHOD 3 : HDMI (BEST QUALITY)
Connect an HDMI cable (not supplied) from the HDMI OUT jack on the back of the product to the HDMI IN jack on your TV.
NOTE
Resolutions available for the HDMI output are 480p (576p), 720p,1080i/1080p. See page 19 for the resolution setting.

HDMI FUNCTION
HDMI Auto Detection Function
If your TV is a Samsung TV and it supports the CEC function, the product's video output will automatically change to HDMI mode if connected with an HDMI cable while the power is on.
HDMI (High Defi nition Multimedia Interface) HDMI is an interface that enables the digital transmission of video and audio data with just a single
connector. Using HDMI, the product transmits a digital video and audio signal and displays a vivid picture on a TV having an HDMI input jack.
HDMI connection description
- HDMI outputs only a pure digital signal to the TV.

If your TV does not support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), random noise appears on the screen.
What is the HDCP? HDCP (High-band width Digital Content Protection) is a system for protecting DVD content outputted via
HDMI from being copied. It provides a secure digital link between a video source (PC, DVD. etc) and a display device (TV, projector. etc). Content is encrypted at the source device to prevent unauthorized copies from being made.

Using Anynet+(HDMI-CEC)
Anynet+ is a function that enables you to control other Samsung Devices with your Samsung TV's remote control. Anynet + can be used by connecting this product to a SAMSUNG TV using a HDMI Cable. This is only available with SAMSUNG TV's that support Anynet+.
Connect the product to a Samsung TV with an HDMI cable. (See page 14)1. Set the Anynet+ function on your TV. (See the TV instruction manual for more information.)2.
NOTE
The Anynet+ function supports some buttons of the remote control.
This function is not available if an HDMI cable does not support CEC.

Display
You can confi gure various display optionals such as the TV Aspect.
TV Aspect
Depending on the type of television you have, you may want to adjust the screen aspect ratio.
4:3 Pan-Scan
Select when you want to see the 16:9 video supplied by a DVD without the black bars on top and bottom, even though you have a TV with a 4:3 ratio screen(The extreme left and right portions of the picture will be cut off.).
4:3 Letter Box
Select when you want to see the total 16:9 ratio screen a DVD supplies, even though you have a TV with a 4:3 ratio screen. Black bars will appear at the top and bottom of the screen.
On : The original resolution of the DVD disc will be output to the TV direct.
Off : The output resolution will be fi xed according to the Resolution previously set, regardless of the resolution of the disc.
NOTE
This will optimize the picture quality according to the
content (In the DVD disc, etc) that you want to play and the product or your BD Wise-compliant Samsung TV.
If you want to change the resolution in BD Wise mode, you must set BD mode to Off in advance. BD Wise will be disabled if the product is
connected to a device that does not support BD Wise.
Resolution
Lets you set the output resolution of the HDMI video signal to 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i or BD Wise. The number indicates the number of lines of video per frame. The i and p indicate interlaced and progressive scan,respectively. The more lines, the higher the quality.
16:9 Wide
Select to view the full 16:9 picture on your widescreen TV.
NOTE
If a DVD is in the 4:3 ratio, you cannot view it in the wide screen.
Since DVD discs are recorded in various image formats, they will
look different depending on the software, the type of TV, and the TV aspect ratio setting.
When you use HDMI, the screen is automatically converted to the 16:9 Wide mode and TV Aspect is deactivated.
Depending on the type(NTSC or PAL) of main unit you have, the TV display picture may be different.
BD Wise (Samsung products only)
BD Wise is Samsung's latest inter-connectivity feature. When you connect Samsung products with BD-Wise to each other via HDMI, the optimum resolution will be set automatically.
480p (576p) : Outputs 480 lines of progressive video.
720p :
Outputs 720 lines of progressive video.
1080i :
Outputs 1080 lines of interlaced video.

Select this to get a new registration code.
The Parental Lock function works in conjunction with DVD discs that have been assigned a numeric rating that indicates the maturity level of the content.
When you access this function for the fi rst time, the password setup screen appears. Enter a 4-digit password using the number buttons. (The default password is 0000.) After you have set your password, select a rating level you want to set. The product will only play DVD discs rated below the numeric rating unless the password is entered. For example, if you select Level 6, discs rated Level 7 and 8 will not play.
Larger numbers indicate more mature content.
Parental Rating
Select the rating level you want to set. A larger number indicates that the program is intended for adult use only. For example, if you select up to Level 6, discs that contain Level 7, 8 will not play.
Enter the password and then press the ENTER button.
- The password is set to "0000" by default.

Disc Playback
Load a disc vertically into the Disc Insert slot.1.
Place a disc gently into the tray with the disc’s label facing up.

Playback starts automatically.
NOTE
Resume function: When you stop disc play, the
product remembers where you stopped, so when you press the PLAY button again, it will pick up where you left off. (This function works only with DVDs.) Press the STOP button twice during playback to
disable the Resume function.
If no buttons are pressed on the product or remote control for more than 3 minutes when the
product is in Pause mode, it switches to Resume stop mode. After 5 minutes in Resume stop

Timer Function
The timer enables you to switch the system on or off at specifi c times automatically.
Before setting the timer, check that the current time

Using an iPod (optional)
Playing Media Files using the USB Host Feature
You can enjoy media fi les such as pictures, movies and music saved on an MP3 player, USB memory stick or digital camera in high quality video with 2.0 channel sound by connecting the storage device to the USB port of the product.
Connect the external USB storage device to the 1. USB jack of the main unit.
Select the USB mode by pressing the 2. F( ) button on the main unit.
You can select USB by pressing the FUNCTION button on the remote control.
Press the 3. ▲▼◄► buttons to select Videos, Music or Photo.
- Select a fi le to play.
Safe USB Removal
To prevent damage to the memory stored in the USB device, perform safe removal before disconnecting the USB cable.
Press and hold the YELLOW (C) button.
- REMOVE will appear on the display. Remove the USB cable.
NOTE
Remove the USB cable from the USB port
slowly. Otherwise, it may cause damage to the USB port.
If the system is connected to an iPod,You can play music and video in the iPod using the system.
Place the iPod in the iPod Dock on the product top 1. panel.
Your iPod is automatically turned on.
You should press the 2. FUNCTION button to switch to REMOTE IPOD or IPOD mode.
The TV will have no output when the system plays music from an iPod.

IPOD
The remote iPod function only supports AV output when the iPod plays a video fi le .
No video will be displayed on the TV if the TV source is HDMI/RGB mode.
You can adjust the volume using the remote control. Play and Search will be enabled only in your iPod player.
Video playback and fi le selection will be enabled on the TV. The remote control can be used for adjusting the volume or playback settings.
Remote iPod SYNC
The sound and picture from an iPod video can fall out of sync. To sync the sound and picture, press and hold the number 8 button on the remote to set up the remote iPod SYNC.
You can set the remote iPod delay time between 0 mSec and 1Sec. Set it to the optimal value.
Listening to Music (IPOD mode)
You can play music fi les stored in the iPod by connecting it to the product.

You can record sound of a CD, a Radio Broadcasting or sound from an external source into a USB storage device.

To stop recording, press the 5. STOP ( The system automatically creates and saves the recording as an MP3 fi le.
After recording, the system creates a directory named
“RECORDING”(CD), “CD COPY”(MP3 CD), “TUNER RECORDING” or “AUX RECORDING” in your USB device.
NOTE
Do not disconnect the USB device or the AC cord
during recording as this may cause fi le damage. If you disconnect the USB device during recording,the system
will power off and you may not be able to delete the recorded fi le, If this occurs, connect the USB device to a PC, backup the USB data onto the PC, and then format the USB device.
When there is not enough memory in the USB device,
the system displays “NOT ENOUGH MEMORY”. The recording function supports USB devices or HDDs formatted in
the FAT fi le system. The NTFS fi le system is not supported. When you use the CD high speed search function, the
CD recording function will not work. The actual recording time may sometimes be longer
with some USB devices. (See page 10) When the system is recording a CD, the EQ function
can not work and is automatically set to OFF.
When the system is recording a CD, the REPEAT function can not work and is automatically set to OFF.
You cannot record the radio when the system is
searching for radio channels or when there are no available frequencies.
Note that setting the input level too loud when recording music from an external device through the AUX or USB channel may introduce noise into the recording. If this occurs, lower the external device’s volume level.
The system does not output the audio signal of a CD
while recording it to a USB device. You will not be able to listen to a CD while it is being recorded.
When HDMI AUDIO is set to On, the USB Recording
function does not work.
You can record a Divx. file (up to 300 minutes) and JPEG files.

Recording Speed
Each time you press and hold the 1. CD REC SPEED button on the remote control, the
recording speed will change as follows:

When the system is recording from the Tuner or an
External Source, the Recording Speed function does not work.
If you select RECORDSPD x 3, the system will not output audio.

Troubleshooting
Refer to the chart below if this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instructions below do not help, turn off the unit, disconnect the power cord, and contact the nearest authorized dealer or Samsung Electronics Service Center.

• CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs cannot be played on this product.
• Make sure that the rating level is correct.
• Are you using a deformed disc or a disc with scratches on the surface?
• Wipe the disc clean.
• No sound is heard during fast playback, slow playback.
• Are the speakers connected properly? Is the speaker setup correctly customized?
• Is the disc severely damaged?
• Is the remote control being operated within its operational angle and distance range?
• Are the batteries drained?
• Is the TV power on?
• Are the video cables connected properly?
• Is the disc dirty or damaged?
• A poorly manufactured disc may not be playable.
• Audio language and subtitles will not work if the disc does not contain them.
• Are you using a disc that does not contain menus?
• You can play 16:9 DVDs in 16:9 WIDE mode, 4:3 LETTER BOX mode, or 4:3 PAN
SCAN mode, but 4:3 DVDs can be seen in 4:3 ratio only. Refer to the DVD disc jacket and then select the appropriate function.
