Froyo 2.2 Online User Update Procedure **
** IMPORTANT NOTES
1) Please backup all personal data stored on your Galaxy S (Contacts, Calendar, SMS, Email, Photos,
Apps, Audio, Video, Documents and any other personal data and files) to a PC/External Storage as the phone memory will be formatted during the upgrade.
2) This instruction is applicable for commercially purchased devices only. Demo devices or devices
purchased outside Australia are excluded from the instructions on this document.
3) This instruction is applicable to Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista and Windows 7 only.
Currently, a MAC version of the online update is unavailable. Currently, 64-bit operating systems are not supported.
4) System Requirements
CPU: Pentium 1.8GHz or Higher (Recommended) RAM: 1GB or higher (Recommended) HDD: 500MB or more available hard disk space Screen Resolution: 1024 X 768 (600), 32 bit or above USB Port Microsoft DirectX 9.0C or higher .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
5) The update tool requires a direct connection to the Internet – you may need to configure your
Firewall or Antivirus software to allow this.
6) Samsung Australia offer existing Galaxy S customers a free online update to FROYO 2.2 firmware.
Please note that data charges may be incurred during the KIES and software download process depending on the data plan with your Internet provider. E.g. the typical FROYO 2.2 firmware will be up to 400MB.

The below instructions will help you update your Galaxy S from Éclair 2.1 to Froyo 2.2. Please follow all steps below carefully as they are vital for a successful upgrade.
Please Note: all personal data stored on the Galaxy S internal memory (Contacts, Calendar, SMS, Email, Photos, Apps, Audio, Video, Documents and any other personal data and files) will be removed from your device during this procedure. Backup using Kies/External Storage is strongly recommended as the phone memory will be formatted during the upgrade (SIM/External SD memory will remain intact).
1. PC Software installation
1) Download and Install Samsung Kies on your PC

(Search for Galaxy S Select Firmware Upgrade then Download Kies) Note: You may have already acquired and installed an earlier version of Kies via the CD in the
commercial box at the time of purchase. If so, please uninstall the earlier version and install the current version available via the link above.
2) Restart your PC for all changes to be applied
3) Run Kies
4) If prompted to update to a later version of Kies proceed with the update
2. Handset Settings
1) Ensure that the handset battery is fully charged
2) ‘USB settings’ option must be set to ‘Kies’ mode
(Main Menu Settings About Phone USB Settings select Samsung Kies)
3. Device Backup
1) Run Kies
2) Turn handset on and connect to the PC using a USB cable
3) If prompted to upgrade device firmware select ‘Cancel’
4) Select ‘GT-I9000T’ under ‘Connected Devices’ in the top right hand corner of Kies
5) Select ‘Backup/Restore’ tab
6) Place a tick in ‘Select all items’ checkbox or manually select items requiring backup by placing a tick in
each item.
