Assembleyourdevice

Your device usesa nano-SIM card. A SIM cardmay be preinstalled, or youmay be able to use your previousSIM card. Contact your carrier for more details.

Charge yourdevice

Before turning on your device, charge it fully.

Install cards and the battery

The SIM card, optional microSD card, andbattery are installedin the back of the device.

1. Lift the cover upandto the right of the device.

3.Carefully slide the SIM cardinto the SIM cardslot. Make sure that the card’sgold contactsface down into the device.

4. Slide the optional microSD cardinto the slot with the goldcontactsfacing down.

5.Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the device, making sure the connectorsalign.

6.Gently pressdown to secure the battery.

7.Place the back cover onto the back of the device andpressdown.

8. Pressalong the edge of the back cover until youhave a secure seal.

Charge the battery

Your device ispoweredby a rechargeable battery. A charger (charging headandUSB Type-C cable) isincludedwith the device for charging the battery from a power outlet.

Startusingyourdevice

Use the Side key to turn your device on. Do not use the device if the body iscrackedor broken. Use the device only after it hasbeen repaired.

Pressandholdthe Side key to turn the device on.

• To turn the device off, open the Notification panel, andtapPower >

Power off. Confirm when prompted.

• To restart your device, open the Notification panel, andtapPower > Restart. Confirm when prompted.

TIP Youcan also turn your device off by pressing the Side and Volume down keys at the same time. To learn more about powering off your device from Settings, tapAdvanced features > Side key > How to power off your tablet.

Use the setup wizard

The first time youturn your device on, the setupwizardguidesyouthrough the basics of setting upyour device.

Follow the promptsto choose a default language, connect to a Wi-Fi® network, set up accounts, choose location services, learn about your device’sfeatures, andmore.

Lock orunlock yourdevice

Use your device’sscreen lock featuresto secure your device. By default, the device locksautomatically when the screen timesout. For more information about screen locks, see Lock screen and security on page 117.

Press to lock.

Press to turn on the screen and then swipe the screen to unlock it.

Youcan customize the shortcutsassignedto the Side key.

Double press

Choose an option to customize which feature islaunchedwhen the Side key ispressed twice.

1.From Settings, tapAdvanced features > Side key.

2.Tap Double press to enable thisfeature, andtapan option: • Quick launch camera

• Open Bixby • Open app

Pressandhold

Choose an option to customize which feature islaunchedwhen the Side key ispressed andheld.

2.Under the Pressandholdheading, tapan option:

•Wake Bixby

Active keysettings

Launch your favorite applicationsby pressing the dedicatedActive key in different ways. Pressthe Active key while Camera isopen to take pictures.

◌From Settings, tapAdvanced features > Active key for the following options:

•Press: Select the appto launch with one quick press.

•Pressand hold: Select the appto launch with one longer press.

•Use while screen locked: Use the Active key to open appswhile the screen is locked.

Use Smart Switch™ to transfer contacts, photos, music, videos, messages, notes, calendars, andmore from your olddevice. Smart Switch can transfer your data via USB cable, Wi-Fi, or computer.
