Ⅰ. Introduction to 220SE software

▶ USB Storage Driver

USB Storage Driver enables a digital camera to work as a USB connection card reader.
After the driver is installed, it's possible to copy or see pictures taken by a digital camera on the PC.
For this camera, USB Storage Driver is provided only for Windows use. Although driver for Macintosh
use is not offered, this can also be used on Mac OS 9.x

▶ Adobe PhotoDeluxe home use version

This is a program to edit or store a stop image from camera. This software is only for Windows use.

Ⅱ. System specification

▶ For Windows

Computer - personal computer with MMX Pentium 200Hz processor or better
Operating System - Microsoft Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME (usable on Windows XP)
Memory - RAM with 32MB at least
Others - USB Port, Hard disk with more than 140MB of space left

16 bit color display adapter or compatible monitor,
screen resolution of 900 X 600 pixels
(24bit color display adapter and true color display are recommended)

▶ For Macintosh

Computer Power - Mac G5, G5, G5 Cube, iMac, PowerBook G3, G4, iBook series with USB Port
Operating System - Mac OS 9.X

- QuickTime 4.0 or more installed

Memory - 64MB or more storage left

▶ For Macintosh

Separated Driver or editing software is not supplied.

Driver for Macintosh use is automatically installed when the camera is turned on at the PC mode.

▶ When installing

Q1. How can I check of the USB Interface available in my PC?
A1. First, Check if the USB ports located in the back of the body or keyboard to

connect the USB cable as shown in the figure.

Second, Check if [Universal Serial Bus(USB) Controller] located in the System

Device Manager. Check as follows,
Click 「Start → Setting → Controller → System → Device Manager
→ Universal Serial Bus Controller」sequentially.
Then there should be the

USB Host Controller

and

USB root hub

in the USB controller.

Third, Check the OS installed in PC.

The USB Interface is enabled in Windows 98 or later(Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME),
Windows 95 OSR 2.1 or later.
It should be met with the following three requirements.

Q2. Though the Driver CD inserted in CD-ROM Drive, Auto Installation screen is not operate.

How can I install the program?

A2. First, It might be occurred if [Auto insert notification], the option to run Auto installation Screen

when the CD inserted was not set.
Set 「Auto insert notification」as follows.
If selecting 「Start → Setting → Controller → System → Device Manager → CDROM」
(see Fig. 1), the installed CD-ROM appears. Double click this and then select the setting,
the following frame(see Fig. 2) will be shown.
Select 「Auto insert notification」from the options and reboot the PC.

Second, You need 5~10seconds for running the automatic setup program according to the capaility of

the computer. If the frame is not displayed even after this, run the 「Windows Explorer」and
select 「Samsung.exe」in the CD-ROM drive root directory.

Third, Without running the Auto Installation Screen, run the 「Windows Explorer」and install the S/W

directly at the desired program folder of CD-ROM root directory.

- When installing the USB Direct Download program : Run 「Setup.exe」in the USBDirectD folder

- When installing Serial TWAIN Driver : Run 「Setup.exe」in the SerialTWAIN folder

- When installing the Serial Direct Download program : Run 「Setup.exe」in the SerialDirectD
folder

Q3. When camera is connected to PC mode, it shows that the driver suitable for the device can not be

found and an unknown driver is installed. How can I solve this problem?

A3. Driver for Digimax 220 may not be installed.

Referring to the manual (p105-106), install the driver.
When trying to install the driver after connecting camera, the above problem happens.
So, be sure to install USB Storage driver first and then connect the camera.

Q4. The following screen was shown, when installing Driver using the provided CD.

What should I do?

A4. This happens when clicking USB Storage Driver in the installation screen if the Driver is already

installed. When this problem happens, select "confirm" to remove the Driver and select cancel
if you want to use the camera continuously.

Q5. Though 「Samsung digimax 220SE Application」CD inserted to install the Adobe PhotoDeluxe, auto

Installation Screen is not operate. How can I install?

A5. First, Set 「Auto insert notification」in CD-ROM Drive setting Options.

For setup method, see the above A2.

Second, Double click on 「Autoplay.exe」which is located in the CD-ROM root directory of

「Windows Explorer」.

Third, Run 「Windows Explorer」 and then install it directly at the program folder of CD-ROM directory

- When installing the Adobe PhotoDeluxe in Korean：Run 「Setup.exe」in 「Korean

→

Install」folder.

- When installing the Adobe PhotoDeluxe in English：Run 「Setup.exe」in 「English

→

Install」folder.

- When installing the Adobe PhotoDeluxe in Chinese：Run 「Setup.exe」in 「Chinese

→

Install」folder.

Q6. When installing the Adobe PhotoDeluxe in Windows 2000, the following Message was displayed.

Is it OK to press the OK button and continue to install?

A6. It is the problem occurred if specification of the install OS approved for Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home

Edition Version 3.0. Adobe PhotoDeluxe is guaranteed over Windows NT 4.0 with service pack 3 or
Windows 95, 98
You can click the OK button and continue to install, but we can not guarantee the usage.

Q7. How can I check if the USB Storage driver has been installed successfully?
A7. Connect camera to the PC with the provided USB cable and turn it on at the PC mode.

Then the following is shown.

(1) Removable disk appears.

(2) In the system properties, the device state is indicated as 'The device is working properly'.

Q8. If turning on the camera after connecting with computer turned off, and then turning on the computer,

it will not operate

A8. Some computers might not communicate with external devices in an instant of power on.

In this case, first turn on the computer, connect whth USB cables, turn on the camera,
and then convert into PC connection Mode.

Q9. If using the VIA chipset
A9. If using the VIA chipset, USB communication might not operate normally in some case.

The patch file of USB Filter Driver is also registered in the website of VIA Technology Inc.
Install the patch file and then use it. You can find the patch file in the following URL.

Q10. If using AMD processor and VIA USB Controller

AMD Processor more than 350MHz, USB controller of VIA Technologies

A10. It has been known that there being the problem in the USB operation between Microsoft Windows

98SE version and the above hardware, so the patch file is registered in the Microsoft Website.
Download and install the patch file.

You can find the patch file in the following URL.

Q11. Using Intel chipset

A11. The patch file concerning the Intel chipset is registered in the Intel website.

▶ When playing moving image

Q1. When opening the moving image photographed by camera, it is not open.
A1. The video decoder for Digimax 210SE was not installed.

Please install the video decoder.
However, video decoder is installed automatically during installing USB TWAIN Driver, Serial Direct
Download program of Driver-CD.

<Method 1>
Put the provided Driver-CD into CD-ROM Drive.
Play the 「Windows Explorer」and then click 「JPEG-Decoder」folder in the CD-ROM Drive folder.
The frame below is displayed when you select 「Jpegcode.inf」in 「JPEG-Decoder」folder and then press
the right button on your mouse. When you select 「Install」, the video compression codec is automatically
set up.

If the following display shown during installation, do as follows.

If pressing 「OK」button, the screen will be displayed as shown in the following figure. This time,
if pressing 「OK」button, installation is automatically completed.
If Auto Installation does not operate, select Copy files from as 「JPEG-Decoder」folder and then
press 「OK」button.

If installed normally, 「JPEGCODE[JPEG]」and 「JPEGCODE[MJPG]」will be displayed on 「Video Compression
codecs」in 「Multimedia properties」.
To show the following screen, press 「Start → Setting → Controller → Multimedia → Device」
sequentially.
Only, windows 98, 98SE-based.

▶ USB Storage Driver use (Removable disk applied)

Q1. When connecting camera to PC and use it as mobile disk, the following screen appears..

A1. This happens since the memory card is not included on camera. Use it after inserting memory card.

Q2. Among the files in the PC, I copied one file downloaded before to the memory card,

but it is not available on the play mode of the camera.

A2. This problem happens if the name of a file which will be recorded by camera on the computer and

the one in the memory card is the same. In other words, if the file name has the same image in
the card although extensions are different, for example PICT001.JPG / PCIT001AVI / PICT001.TIF, only
one is displayed at the order of JPG → AVI → TIF on the camera reproduction mode. In addition
if these displayed files are removed from the camera, other extension files with the same name will be
removed as well.
Therefore make sure that the name is not same with the file names in the memory card
when the filmed image is recorded on the computer by the camera.

Q3. When trying to write a certain file which is not taken by Digimax 220SE from the computer

to the camera, what happens?

A3. When trying to write a certain file which is not taken by Digimax 220SE from the computer

to the camera, a screen in the camera reproduction mode will show "ERROR FILE", or it is shown
in black on the Thumbnail or it may be impossible to check it on the camera.

Q4. Although a file has been copied from the computer to the camera, the file is not written in the camera.
A4. This happens when you operated camera while communicating with the PC. In other words,

if you copy or remove the file on the mobile disk to the computer, or copy the file in the computer
to the mobile disk, the green lamp beside the camera view pint will blink. When the blinking of
the green lamp is released completely, the work in process can be finished. So make sure not to
do other works such as USB cable removal and mode dial change before this, and separate
camera through 'hardware separation or takeout'.

Use extreme care on Windows 2000 since the following problems can happen.

1. When removing files from mobile disk :
The green lamp stops blinking 10 seconds after the files are removed from the PC completely.

2. When moving files to the PC or copying files in the PC to the mobile disk :
First the green lamp will begin to blink and it will be turned off 15 to 20 seconds later.

For the case of number 1 and 2, the work in process can be finished successfully when
the green lamp is turned off completely.

☞ If you operate a camera while communicating with the PC, there's risk of media damage or

data loss. Therefore always operate a camera after the green LED is turned off.

▶ When using Adobe Photo Delux Home Edition.

Q1. What type is the downloaded image saved as?

A1. If you’d like to save as another format, e.g. JPG/BMP, do as follows.

1. Using File Menu
Press 「File → Export → File Format」sequentially.
This time, press the scroll button in right of 「Saved As」, various file formats will be shown.
select the file format to be saved as.

2. Using Icon
Press 「Get & Fix photo → Save & Send → Export → 1Send → Others Send」
sequentially. This time, select the file format to be saved as from the display.

▶ To change the memory preferences

1. Execute the PhotoDeluxe.

2. At the top of your screen, choose File → Preferences → Memory Preferences. For more information, see Using
menus.

3. For Primary, select the disk you want Home Edition to use first. (The hard disk which is the faster or has the
biggest space)

4. For Secondary, select the disk you want Home Edition to use when the Primary disk is out of space.

5. For Physical Memory Usage, designate what proportion of RAM Home Edition should use before using the scratch
disk. It’s best to set this number at 75%(Windows 95 and 98) or 65%(Windows NT) or lower so that additional
memory will be available when you need to use a plug-in module (which enables various Home Edition features,
such as applying certain special effects, scanning photos, and saving files in various formats.)
The new settings take effect the next time you start Home Edition.

- After closing all the opened application program, restart the program.

- Reboot the computer after appoint the hard disk which is the faster or
has the biggest space as primary scratch disk, or allocate more memory
through the change the memory preferences.

▶ What is scratch disk?

A scratch disk is temporary disk space used for storing data and performing computations on files during a work session when
the random-access memory(RAM) is insufficient. (For certain operations, PhotoDeluxe Home Edition requires that three to five
times the size of the file be available in RAM.)
For example, if you have 16MB of RAM allocated to Home Edition, and you are opening a 5MB photo, Home Edition will need
15MB of RAM.
To make up the difference, Home Edition will temporarily use memory from your scratch disk while the photo is opening.

Q1. Isn't the Driver for Macintosh use provided?
A1. The Driver for Macintosh use is not offered additionally but if it's Mac OS 9.X or better,

thus you can use it.
Connect camera and Mac with the USB cable and turn on at the PC mode. Then it will be
automatically recognized as a mobile disk.
There will be no problem for Mac OS 9.X or better, but not for the Mac OS X.

Q2. When installing USB Storage Driver, QuickTime 4.0 or better is shown in the system requirements.

QuickTime is not included in the Driver CD. How can I install USB Storage Driver?

A2. QuickTime 4.0 or better has more on the image comparing to the preceding version.

If you take advantage of this, the camera image can be shown more effectively.
Therefore be sure to install it.
If you go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime, you can download the up-to-date version.

Q3. How can I check the USB version in iMac?
A3. Click in the order of "Apple System Profiler - Device and volume" and the USB version is shown.

If the USB version is 1.0.1, updating is needed. But if it 1.1, you can use it without updating.
