READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
WAR N I NG: A risk of fire and electrical shock exists in all
electrical appliances and may cause personal injury or death. Please follow all safety instructions.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug, or
Toaster in water or other liquid. See instructions for cleaning.
This appliance is not for use by children.
Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used
near children.
Unplug from outlet when not in use. Unplug and allow to cool
before cleaning.
Do not operate any damaged appliance. Do not operate with a
damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Contact Salton Consumer Service for return authorization, examination, repair or adjustment.
The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Salton,

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS (Con’t.)
Use Toaster in an open area with 4-6 inches air space above and
on all sides for air circulation. A fire may occur if Toaster is covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, towels, walls and toaster covers, etc, while in operation.
Do not defrost or toast convenience foods under any cabinet
or overhang.
Do not force food into bread slots.
Do not attempt to dislodge food when Toaster is plugged into an
outlet. Should it be necessary to dislodge food, unplug the Toaster and use only a wooden utensil.
Do not clean with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off the
pad and touch electrical parts, creating a risk of electric shock.
Keep crumb tray clean. See instructions for cleaning.
CAUTION: Hot Surfaces.
Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: This product is hot during operation and retains heat
for some time after turning off. Always use oven mitts when handling hot materials and allow metal parts to cool before cleaning. Do not place anything on top of the Toaster while it is operating or while it is hot.
CAUTION: This appliance generates heat during use. Proper precautions must be taken to prevent the risk of burns, fires or other damage to persons or property.
Page 4
CAUTION: A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of personal injury resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Extension cords are available from local hardware stores and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is required, special care and caution is necessary. The cord must also be: (1) marked with an electrical rating of 125 V. and at least 10 A., 1250 W., and (2) arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over accidentally.
POLARIZED PLUG: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
ELECTRIC POWER: If the electric circuit is overloaded with other appliances, your Toaster may not operate properly. It should be operated on a separate electrical circuit from other appliances.
This product is for household use only.

Toasting Instructions
1. Plug cord into any 120 V ~ 60 Hz outlet. The unit may emit an odor and/or smoke during first few uses from oils used in manufacturing. This is normal for a new appliance.
2. Breads vary in density and moisture content, requiring different settings. Set toast color control to the color of toast desired. For first use, set control to “3” or medium setting. “LIGHT” or numbers “1” and “2” indicate light color setting ; “DARK” or numbers “4” and “5” indicate dark color setting.
3. Toast thin breads on the lighter toast color settings. Stale bread, thin bread or sweet bread products, such as tea cakes and fruit loaf, brown much more quickly than ordinary bread, so they should be toasted on the lighter settings.
4. Remove all protective wrappings from food before placing in bread slots.
5. When toasting more than one slice of bread, use slices of similar size, thickness and freshness. Avoid toasting torn slices of bread and broken pastries, which may get lodged in bread slots.
6. Insert bread or toaster food into bread slots and push down toast lever.
NOTE: Use either bread slot when toasting a single slice or portion. Use bread slices that fit freely into the slots. The self-adjusting bread guides hold food upright for uniform side-to-side toasting.
7. When toast is done, the toast lever with auto hi-lift will pop up and the power will shut off automatically.
8. Turn toast color control counter-clockwise past “LIGHT” setting to cancel the toasting cycle.
Removing Lodged Toast
If a piece of toast becomes lodged in the Toaster, unplug the Toaster and allow to cool. Press the toasting lever down. Turn the Toaster upside down, and shake the toast loose.
IMPORTANT: Never use a fork or sharp-edged utensil to remove toast. Doing so may damage the heating element or cause injury.

Convenience Foods Toasting
Today there are many varieties of packaged convenience food
available, both frozen and non-frozen (shelf pastry), that can be toasted in your Toaster.
Do not toast toaster pastries with runny fillings or frosting.
Remove all protective wrappings from food before placing in
bread slots.
Since toaster foods and individual tastes vary, it is difficult to
recommend exact toast color control settings, however, after a little experimentation you will discover the best setting for your needs. You may also wish to refer to the heating instructions on food packaging.
Some convenience foods may require a second toasting cycle.
Non-Frozen Shelf Pastry
Move toast color control to the Pop Tarts
setting.
For thicker convenience foods, it may be
necessary to set control to “4” or “5” or “DARK” for a longer toasting cycle.
Some pastries may require a second toasting cycle.
Do not toast toaster pastries with runny fillings or frosting.
®
Frozen Foods
Move the toast color control to a darker color setting. Due to
variations in size and density, frozen items will require different settings. Moving the control clockwise to the “4” or “5” or “DARK” will provide a longer toasting cycle.
Thawing frozen foods before toasting will help ensure that the
inside of the food is heated and will prevent the outside from burning. Again, experimentation is the best way to accommodate individual tastes and food choices.
Some frozen foods may require a second toasting cycle.
