Tissue-Tek® AutoTEC® a120
The Tissue-Tek® AutoTEC® a120 Automated
Embedding System is designed for the purpose of
paraffin embedding human and animal tissue
specimens.
The instrument, as part of the histopathology
process, is intended to facilitate the in vitro
examination of human and animal tissue for
morphology changes by a pathologist.
The Tissue-Tek® AutoTEC® a120 can be
programmed to initiate an automatic four hour
system warm up so it is ready for operation when
the workday begins.

Prior to starting the first run:
1. Check that the 4 output doors are empty and
installed
2. Load a maximum of assembled 20 Tissue-Tek
®
Paraform® cassettes into each magazine:
a. Ensure that cassettes are properly
inserted in their frames, lids securely
closed.
b. Insert cassettes parallel in magazines,
top sides facing up, beveled writing
surface of the frames facing magazine
lid.
c. Cassette retainer slides to one space
above topmost cassette.
d. Slide magazine cover on all the way.
3. LOG IN, touch LOG IN and enter your password

1. Press the LOAD MAGAZINE icon on the main
Monitor screen
2. When the message DOOR IS UNLOCKED is
displayed, the input door can be opened.
3. Up to 4 Magazines can be loaded, slide the
magazine to the bottom.
4. Securely close the input door, automatic
embedding will commence after the
programmable warm-up time has
completed.
Note: Cold magazines should not be loaded
into the instrument, lids leveled to the
posts of the input door.

The Monitor screen provides the applicable
information on Input Door, Output Doors and
Basemold area during the embedding cycle.
Cassettes placed on the recovery area due to open
lid or cassette assembly issues can be retrieved by
pressing the INSTRUMENT ACCESS icon on the left
bottom corner.
When the embedding of the blocks has been
completed the blocks are placed in one of the
Output door(s). The output door icon indicates the
door can be removed of the instrument.

Dropped cassettes: In case a cassette is dropped
from the gripper a sensor will be triggered notifying
the user and allow recovery of the cassette.
Error’s, Messages or attentions: If displayed on
the screen follow press RESUME or shutdown and
follow further instructions displayed on the screen.
Insufficient Paraffin: In case of insufficient
molten paraffin in the paraffin reservoir, the
instrument will stop pulling cassettes from the
magazine in the input door and display 0
cassettes in the dashboard.
Cassette assembly: In case the Tissue-Tek®
Paraform® cassette is not properly assembled or
the lid is not closed completely, the instrument will
palce the cassette in the recovery area and will
display its presence in the Monitor Screen.
