User guide

Thank you for buying the Safety 1st baby monitor «Safe Contact».
Please read these instructions carefully before using and keep them safe for future reference.

I - WARNINGS

Terms used in the instructions: the term «»receiver»» corresponds to the parent unit and the term «»transmitter»» corresponds to
the baby unit.

• In no case should this product be a replacement for adult supervision.

• Check the child’s activity at regular intervals because the baby monitor will not alert parents to silent activity.

• It is important to check reception quality regularly.

• The baby unit must be installed at least 20 cm away from any other person, in compliance with Council recommendation 1999/519/
EC.

• This baby monitor is designed for interior use only.

• Never use the baby monitor in a damp place or where it is liable to be splashed by water from a bath, basin, etc.

• Do not cover the appliance with objects such as blankets, tablecloths, curtains, newspapers, etc.

• Never place the appliance near to naked flames such as lighted candles.

• Keep the transmitter, receivers and adapters away from all sources of heat such as radiators, stoves and other appliances (including
amplifiers) which give out heat. Also keep these parts away from direct sunlight.

• Never use the appliance near to neon lights or any other electrical appliance such as televisions, computers or telephones using
DECT technology.

• Unplug the adapter from the wall socket if you are not using the appliance for a long period of time.

• Leave space between the transmitter, receiver and adapters to ensure there is adequate ventilation and to prevent any overheating
of the parts.

• Use only the adapters supplied (cf page 3). The use of other adapters could damage the transmitter and receiver. Do not use this
adapter with other products.

• Plug adapters only into standard electrical sockets (220 V). To avoid all risk of tangling and overheating, do not use the extension.

• Adapters may become slightly warm when the appliance is working. This is normal.

• Keep the adapter leads away from places where people pass, and out of the reach of children. Make sure that the cord is not stuck.
In particular, check the layout of electrical wires in the adapter plugs and electrical sockets, as well as the wiring connections to the
receiver, transmitter and adapters. Make sure that each power supply unit remains easily accessible.

• Check the batteries regularly when the receiver is being used in portable mode.

• Do not use the receiver in portable mode when the batteries are almost flat. If this is the case, plug the receiver into the mains in
order to use it.

• Do not attempt to repair this product. For all repairs, please contact the DOREL after-sales service.

WARNING :

To reduce the risk of fire or electrical disturbance, do not expose this product to water or humidity. Never dismantle the appliances.
All opening of the casing presents dangers and will nullify the guarantee.
Cleaning: use a dry cotton cloth to remove dust from appliances. Do not use water!
Keep mains adapters out of the reach of children (Supply cords present risk of strangulation).

The frequency range of this baby monitor is between 1881 MHz and 1898 MHz.

II - INSTALLING THE BABY MONITOR

1) Advice to obtain high quality reception:

The baby monitor is equipped with D.E.C.T (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication) digital technology. It is designed to
connect you automatically, using a private channel, while giving out a clear sound, without interference or parasites. Thanks to the
DECT technology, listening is not disturbed because the units connect up automatically on other channels if interference is detected.

IMPORTANT :

For better sound quality, place the transmitter 1.5/2 metres away from the baby. Check the reception regularly. Place the receiver far
enough away from the transmitter to avoid interference. It may be that the maximum distance has been reached if, when using the
baby monitor, the sound quality deteriorates. In this case you should move the receiver closer to the transmitter. Adjust the volume
to a reasonable level for your surroundings.

2) Using for the first time :

When you buy the product the rechargeable batteries are wrapped separately and are not already in the parent unit. It is necessary
to charge the batteries.

Installing the batteries in the parent unit :

- Press down and turn (See Diagram).

- Remove the battery cover from the parent unit and insert the rechargeable batteries, making sure they are the correct way round

as indicated. (See Diagram)

- Replace the battery cover.

Recharging and using from the mains

It is essential to fully charge the parent unit before using. You can use the parent unit while it is charging or, if you wish to speed up
the charging process, you can turn it off.
The indicator light on the parents’ unit flashes red when charging.
When you use the parent unit plugged into the mains, it is preferable to leave the batteries in the unit. Before first use, you need to
leave the parent unit plugged in for 8 hours in order for it to fully charge.
The baby unit works only from the mains.
Plug an adapter onto each unit.
WARNING: Use only the adapters supplied with the product.
Plug the adapter into a wall socket.

WARNINGS CONCERNING THE BATTERIES :

• Keep the instructions because they contain important information.

• Use only the rechargeable batteries NiMH 1.2V, 550mAh type AAA.

• DO NOT REPLACE THESE BATTERIES BY AN INCORRECT TYPE OF BATTERY: RISK OF EXPLOSION.

• DO NOT MIX used batteries with new batteries.

• DO NOT MIX alkaline batteries, standard (carbon-zinc) batteries and rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.

• Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.

• Before inserting the batteries, check that all contact surfaces are clean.

• Do not put the battery terminals in short circuit.

• DO NOT PUT the product in water.

• Used batteries must not be burned or thrown out with domestic rubbish but deposited in specialised recycling centres.

• Remove the batteries when the appliance is unused for long periods of time.

• Remove the adapter before replacing the batteries.

3) Features

• Starting up : Establish contact between the units.

To switch on the parent unit and the child unit press the ON/OFF button
on both units will flash green while contacting is being established unless the parents’ unit is being charged. Once contact has been
established between the two units, the light will stop flashing and become permanently green.

• Adjusting the volume

To adjust the volume, press the volume increase button ( + ) or volume decrease button ( - ). There are 10 sound levels. Each sound
level is signalled by a beep. When maximum or minimum volume has been reached the unit will beep twice.

•Child unit :

- Search function

This function enables you to find the parent unit. When the child and parent units are connected up with one another press the

•Parent unit :

- Recharging the batteries

When the light on the parent unit is showing permanently red and the unit is emitting continuous beeps, it is essential that you
recharge the batteries.
In order to do this, plug the parent unit into the mains (see diagram). The light will flash red during recharging.
For good-quality communication, the parent unit should preferably contain batteries even when it is plugged into the mains.
If the batteries run down at abnormal speed after having been fully charged, replace the rechargeable batteries with new rechar
geable batteries of the same type.

- Warning that maximum distance has been exceeded or contact has been lost

When the parent unit is too far away or is no longer in contact with the child unit, you will hear continuous warning beeps sounding
from the parent unit. The light on the parent unit will also flash green for as long as the connection is not re-established.
If the parent unit is not working or is switched off while charging, the light on the child unit will flash green.
Be careful: The child unit does not give out a sound signal.

- «VOX» function

Selective system of «VOX» wave emission: Listening on demand.
To activate the VOX facility slide the button towards the «ON» position.

- ON Mode: Listening activated only by the baby’s voice, no background noise.

- OFF Mode: Listening activated by any type of noise. Permanent background noise.

To cancel the VOX function slide the button towards the «OFF» position.

- Lights showing tear intensity

Lights are activated according to the intensity of baby’s tears. The greater the intensity the greater number of lights will be activated.
The unit provides 3 levels of tear intensity.

4) Function check

At the end of these different stages, please check that the equipment works correctly under real conditions.

• Use which does not comply with the instructions

• Inappropriate, incorrect or unreasonable use

• Non-conforming electrical installations

• Repairs or modifications carried out by unauthorised technicians.

other relevant provisions of directive 1999/5/CE.
Product conformity is subject to regular controls.

VII - END OF LIFE

At the end of their life the appliances, together with the batteries should be taken to the appropriate recycling centres.

Merci de lire attentivement ce mode d’emploi avant utilisation et de le conserver soigneusement pour consultation ultérieure.

I - AVERTISSEMENTS

• Termes utilisés dans le mode d’emploi : le terme « récepteur » correspond à l’unité parents et le terme « émetteur » correspond à
l’unité bébé.

• En aucun cas ce produit ne peut remplacer la surveillance de l’enfant par un adulte.

• Surveiller les activités de l’enfant à intervalles réguliers car l’écoute bébé n’alerte pas les parents des activités silencieuses de
l’enfant.

• Il importe de vérifier régulièrement la qualité de la réception.

• L’unité bébé doit être installée à au moins 20 cm de toute personne conformément à la recommandation du Conseil 1999/519/CE.

• Cet écoute bébé est uniquement destiné à un usage intérieur.

• Ne jamais utiliser l’écoute bébé dans un endroit humide ou soumis à des projections d’eau tel que baignoire, évier, etc.

• Ne pas couvrir l’appareil par des objets tels que couvertures, nappes, rideaux, journaux, etc.

• Ne jamais placer l’appareil à proximité de flammes nues telles que bougies allumées.

• Tenir l’émetteur, le récepteur et les adaptateurs éloignés de toute source de chaleur comme les radiateurs, poêles et autres appareils
(Y compris les amplificateurs) émettant de la chaleur. Tenir également ces composants éloignés de la lumière directe du soleil.

• Ne jamais utiliser l’appareil près de lampes à néons ou tout autre appareil électronique tel que les télévisons, ordinateurs, ou
téléphones utilisant la technologie DECT.

• Débrancher l’adaptateur de la prise murale, si vous n’utilisez pas l’appareil pendant une longue période.

• Laisser de l’espace entre l’émetteur, le récepteur et les adaptateurs pour assurer une ventilation adéquate et éviter toute surchauffe
des composants.

• Utiliser uniquement les adaptateurs fournis (cf page 3). L’utilisation d’autres adaptateurs pourrait endommager l’émetteur et le
récepteur. Ne pas utiliser cet adaptateur avec d’autres produits.

• Ne brancher les adaptateurs que dans des prises électriques standards (220 V). Pour éviter tout risque d’enchevêtrement et de
surchauffe, ne pas utiliser de rallonge.

• Les adaptateurs peuvent devenir légèrement chauds quand l’appareil est en marche. Ceci est normal.

• Placer les cordons des adaptateurs hors des lieux de passages, et hors de portée des enfants. Veillez à ce que le cordon ne soit pas
coincé. Vérifier en particulier l’agencement des fils électriques au niveau des fiches des adaptateurs et des prises électriques, ainsi
que les connexions des fils au récepteur, à l’émetteur et aux adaptateurs. Veiller à ce que chaque bloc d’alimentation reste aisément
accessible.

• Vérifier régulièrement les piles lors de l’utilisation du récepteur en mode portable. Ne pas utiliser le récepteur en mode portable
lorsque les piles sont presque épuisées. Utiliser alors le récepteur sur secteur.

• Ne pas tenter de réparer ce produit. Pour toute demande de réparation, merci de vous adresser au service après-vente de DOREL.

ATTENTION :

Pour réduire les risques d’incendie ou de commotion électrique, ne pas exposer ce produit à l’eau ou à l’humidité.
Ne jamais démonter les appareils. Toute ouverture du boîtier présente des dangers et entraîne l’annulation de la garantie.
Nettoyage : utiliser un tissu en coton sec pour enlever la poussière sur les appareils. Ne pas utiliser d’eau !
Garder les adaptateurs secteur hors de portée de l’enfant (Présence de cordons d’alimentation. Risque d’étranglement)

II -MISE EN PLACE DE L’ÉCOUTE BÉBÉ

Contenu :

• 1 unité enfant

• 1 unité parents

• 2 adaptateurs

• 2 piles rechargeables NiMH 1.2V, 550mAh type AAA pour l’unité parents

• 1 notice d’utilisation

1) Conseils pour obtenir une réception de bonne qualité

L’écoute-bébé est équipé de la technologie numérique D.E.C.T (Digital Enhanced Cordless Télécommunication). Il est conçu pour
vous connecter automatiquement, en utilisant un canal privé, tout en fournissant un son clair, sans interférences ni parasites.
Grace à la technologie DECT, l’écoute n’est pas perturbée car les unités se connectent automatiquement sur d’autres canaux en cas
de détection d’interférences.

IMPORTANT :

Pour une meilleure qualité de son, placer l’émetteur à 1,5/2 mètres du bébé. Vérifier la réception de manière régulière. Utiliser le
récepteur suffisamment loin de l’émetteur pour ne pas avoir d’interférence. Il se peut que la portée limite maximale soit atteinte, si au
cours de l’utilisation de l’écoute bébé, la qualité du son se détériore. Vous devez alors rapprocher le récepteur de l’émetteur. Ajuster
le volume à un niveau raisonnable pour votre environnement.

2) Première utilisation :

A l’achat du produit les piles rechargeables sont emballées individuellement et non disposées dans l’unité parents. Il est nécessaire
de charger les piles.

Installation des piles de l’unité parents :

• Exercer une pression et tourner (Voir Schéma).

• Enlever le cache piles de l’unité parents et mettre en place les piles rechargeables, respecter la polarité indiquée. (Voir Schéma)

• Remettre le cache piles.

Recharge et utilisation sur secteur

Il faut absolument effectuer une charge complète de l’unité parents avant toute utilisation. Vous pouvez utiliser l’unité parents
pendant qu’elle se charge ou bien, pour une charge plus rapide, vous pouvez l’éteindre. La première utilisation nécessite de laisser
brancher l’unité parents pendant 8 heures pour effectuer une charge complète.
Pendant la charge le voyant de l’unité parents clignote rouge.
Lorsque vous utilisez l’unité parents branchée sur secteur, il est préférable de laisser les piles installées dans l’unité. L’unité bébé
fonctionne uniquement sur secteur. Brancher un adaptateur sur chaque unité.
ATTENTION : N’utilisez que les adaptateurs fournis avec le produit.
Brancher l’adaptateur sur une prise murale.

AVERTISSEMENTS CONCERNANT LES PILES :

• Conserver ces instructions car elles contiennent des informations importantes.

• Utiliser uniquement les piles rechargeables NiMH 1.2V, 550mAh type AAA

• NE PAS REMPLACER CES PILES PAR UN TYPE DE PILES INCORRECT : RISQUE D’EXPLOSION.

• NE PAS MELANGER des piles usagées et des piles neuves.

• NE PAS MELANGER des piles alcalines, standard (carbone-zinc) et rechargeables (nickel-cadmium).

• Ne pas recharger des piles non-rechargeables.

• Avant de mettre des piles, vérifier la propreté de toutes les surfaces de contact.

• Ne pas mettre les bornes des piles en court-circuit.

• NE PAS PLONGER le produit dans l’eau.

• Les piles usagées ne doivent pas être brûlées ou jetées avec les déchets ménagers mais déposées dans les centres de collecte
spécialisés.

• Enlever les piles lorsque l’appareil est inutilisé pendant de longues périodes.

• Retirer l’adaptateur avant de remplacer les piles.

3) Caractéristiques

• Mise en route : Etablissement du contact entre les unités.

Pour allumer l’unité parents et l’unité enfant appuyer sur le bouton Marche/Arrêt
cher. Le voyant des deux unités clignotera en vert pendant l’établissement du contact sauf si l’unité parents est en charge. Lorsque
le contact est établi entre les deux unités, le voyant est vert fixe.

• Ajustement du volume

Pour régler le volume, appuyer sur le bouton augmentation (
niveau sonore se manifeste par un bip. Lorsque le volume atteint son maximum ou son minimum l’unité bipera deux fois.

•Unité enfant :

- Fonction recherche

Cette fonction permet de retrouver l’unité parents. Lorsque les unités enfant et parents sont connectées entre elles appuyer sur le

pendant 1 seconde pour activer la fonction recherche. L’unité parents émettra un signal sonore.

Appuyer sur n’importe quel bouton de l’unité parents pour arrêter les bips, excepté le bouton

•Unité parent :

- Recharge des piles

Lorsque le voyant de l’unité parents est rouge fixe et que des bips continus sont émis par l’unité, vous devez impérativement
recharger les piles.
Pour cela, brancher l’unité parents sur secteur. Pendant la recharge le voyant clignote rouge.
Pour une communication de qualité, l’unité parents doit de préférence contenir des piles même lorsqu’elle est branchée sur secteur.
En cas de décharge anormalement rapide des piles après une charge complète, remplacer les piles rechargeables par de nouvelles
piles rechargeables de même type.

- Alerte de dépassement de portée ou perte de contact

Lorsque l’unité parents est trop éloignée ou n’est plus en contact avec l’unité enfant vous entendrez des bips d’alerte en continu, émis
par l’unité parents. Le voyant de l’unité parents clignotera également en vert tant que la connexion ne sera pas rétablie.
Si l’unité parents n’est pas en fonctionnement ou est éteinte en étant branchée sur secteur, le voyant de l’unité enfant clignotera en
vert.
ATTENTION : L’unité enfant n’émet pas de signal sonore.

- Fonction « VOX »

Système sélectif d’émission d’ondes «VOX»: Ecoute à la demande.
Pour enclencher la fonction VOX faites glisser le bouton vers la position « ON ».

- Mode ON: Ecoute déclenchée uniquement par la voix de bébé, pas de bruit de fond.

- Voyants lumineux d’intensité des pleurs

Les voyants lumineux s’activent en fonction de l’intensité des pleurs de bébé. Plus l’intensité est forte plus le nombre de voyants
allumés sera important. L’unité dispose de 3 niveaux d’intensité des pleurs.
