SYSTEM MODES
Important: The R5 SUPREME CDU can be set up to operate in different system modes, AIS, Navigation or a Combined AIS and Navigation mode.
This short instruction deals with AIS functions only. If Navigation system functions are activated, additional symbols and menus will be available.
GENERAL OPERATION
SYSTEM NAVIGATION
The R5 SUPREME CDU is equipped with a resistive touch screen as well as a keypad to be used for operation of the system. When using the Arrow keys to navigate the system views, selected items will be highlighted by an orange frame. Press ENTER to open a view. Press to go back.
CHANGING PARAMETERS
Many views contain parameters that can be edited. To edit a parameter, press the parameter value or select it by using the ARROW KEYPAD and press ENTER .
Changes will not take effect immediately. Press Save on screen button after editing parameters to save and exit the view. Press Back on screen button to cancel changes.
Data can be entered to the system in the following ways:
1. Text / Numbers: A virtual keyboard/keypad will popup when editing text or number fields. Press characters on screen directly, or use Arrow keys to highlight and press ENTER key to input a character. Press VIRTUAL KEYPAD ENTER key to accept new input after editing. Press ESC to undo changes.
2. Selection List: Parameters with fixed values are displayed in a drop-down list, shown when the parameter value is pressed. Select one of the listed values.
3. Selection List and numeric input: In views like the Send AIS Message it is possible to select a target MMSI in a list of predefined values based on received targets MMSI. It is also possible to enter any MMSI number. To do this, select the Numerical Input choice and input a numerical value using the virtual numerical keypad shown.
DO NOT TURN OFF TRANSPONDER POWER WITHIN 2 SECONDS OF A PARAMETER CHANGE!

BEFORE VOYAGE
SET VOYAGE RELATED PARAMETERS
Voyage related parameters, are set from the AIS Voyage view accessed from Main Menu  Voyage  AIS Voyage.
DURING VOYAGE
SET NAVIGATIONAL STATUS
Press the navigational status icon in the status bar or select navigational status in the AIS Voyage view: Main Menu Voyage AIS Voyage.
BRIGHTNESS AND DIMMING
Adjust day/night LCD and LED dimming levels and set current mode in:
Main Menu  Maintenance  Configuration  Display  Visual Parameters
Current display mode (day/night) can be quickly reached by pressing and holding the POWER button for 2 seconds.
Press the OPT button for 5 seconds to reset visual settings to default values.
ACKNOWLEDGE ACTIVE ALERTS
Press the “Ack button to acknowledge alert indications on the display.
VIEW ACTIVE ALERTS
Press the alerts icon/indicator in the status bar or select: Main Menu Status  Alert List
OPERATIONAL MODE
To turn on/off AIS transmissions and set transponder to normal/silent mode, select: Main Menu AIS Operational Mode and select mode by pressing one of the buttons.
HANDLING SRM & TEXT MESSAGES
Safety related messages (SRMs) and text messages can be sent to specific targets (addressed messages) or broadcast to all targets.
Handling of messages is supported by the AIS Messages view accessible via Main Menu
Messages  AIS Messages:
A letter symbol will be displayed in the status bar when a message has been received.

VIEW LIST OF AIS TARGETS
Enter Main Menu AIS  Target List Select targets by pressing on a target row or using the ARROW
KEYPAD. Press the Extended Info button for extended info about the selected
target.
NOTE: Extended static information is not sent as frequently as dynamic data. Static data is only sent every 6 minutes. New targets may therefore not have complete information for up to 6 minutes.
VIEW PLOT OF AIS TARGETS
Enter Main Menu AIS  Plot The plot can be zoomed in and out using the plus or minus buttons.
Select a target by pressing the target symbol in the plot view. Press
Extended Info button for extended info about the selected target.

1W mode (Available only if Ship Type = Tanker, Navigational Status = Moored and the speed of the ship is less than 3 knots)
Silent Mode activated, either with Tx Mode parameter or silent switch.
